Owner description: Intramuros, "The Walled City," is the oldest district in Manila. This is what remains of the fortified city, which was the seat of power during Spanish Colonial times (1521-1898).

While Intramuros warranted a stroll and a look, the 3 hour `Walk This Way` tour with Carlos Celdran gave the ruins perspective and meaning. Celdran was informed, interesting, and passionate. The 3 hours pass quickly with occasional breaks to wander and return. Highly recommended destination with Celdran. Worth seeing without him, too.

When I went to Manila for the third time, I'd bet you'd know a lot about the place especially because I had it my history classes. However, I think a person who is a foreigner should have a great travel guide. Manila Cathedral and Fort Santiago could give a lot of history. A lunch at Ilustrado in Calle Real gives a Hispano-Philippine touch. Beware with informal settlers and pickpockets. But, a trip at Intramuros would be delighting if you're cautious.

The whole Intramuros and the fort is nothing really special. It's dirty and run down and there is not much to do.
You don't need more than 3 hours to visit Intramuros and the Rizal park.

Its like the Old Manila meets the New Manila when one walks through the walls of Intramuros. The architecture of the buildings were maintained in the circa 1800s. Some parts of Intramuros have cobbled steps as it was back then. I love visiting the churches here as I am transported back in time.

Intramuros is definitely a good place for tourist to walk around. All tourist spots are walking distance, but you can take a trishaw to tour around the old city. Fort Santiago, san agustin church, Manila cathedral are the main attraction.
