Owner description: Intramuros, "The Walled City," is the oldest district in Manila. This is what remains of the fortified city, which was the seat of power during Spanish Colonial times (1521-1898).

I knew that the Philippines had a rich Spanish history and it was nice to see the guards dressed in traditional Spanish attire. It added to the charm of the place. Be sure to stop by the gift shop!

The attractions within the walls are very well documented. You will not miss any spots if you follow the map provided by the tourist council of Intramuros.

It is however, rather dirty. i wish they would pay attention to the cleanliness of the city, as how they promote it as a key tourist attraction.

The area is also has a lot of street food stalls and street children roaming the streets, singing and begging for donations.

Although most of the original buildings were destroyed by the americans as they routed the japanese in 1945, the rebuilt historical centre of old Manila is still an interesting historical site. The spanish colonial architecture can still be felt and the walled city layout is impressive. Must also see the Fort Santiago whic froms part of the complex.

i love the churches - esp san agustin, built in the 1400s. the cathedral is also close by. the walled city is just around the corner, the police/security are dressed like the "guardia civil" of the spanish era. it brought me back to noli me tangere and el filibusterismo. a must for returning residents
