Owner description: Intramuros, "The Walled City," is the oldest district in Manila. This is what remains of the fortified city, which was the seat of power during Spanish Colonial times (1521-1898).

“History and more...”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

was approached by one of the tour guides as soon as I arrived in Intramuros - the guys riding the horse-drawn carriages in the yellow-checked shirts. ordinarily I would prefer walking around on my own, but my gf suggested we join him for an hour, which ended up being 2 hours covering everything and a lot more...although that was matched by the amount we eventually paid him!
Nevertheless it was fun, enjoyed the history and the architecture of the area, and our guide was very outgoing and full of anecdotes.
Enjoyed everything within the walls of Intramuros, with many stops along the way, and ended by carrying on all the way into Chinatown, stopping at a small shop to stock up on snacks.

“Old Manila”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

I should commend the Intramuros Administration for maintaining the old Manila that was Intramuros. You do not have to travel to Vigan to experience the cobbled stone road, to see old houses and experience the splendor of Manila's past. Architecture of the buildings is reminiscent of the Spanish era complete with two famous churches, San Agustin and the Cathedral. For more on Manila's history, there is Fort Santiago. The restaurants inside Intramuros offers different Spanish and Filipino dishes. One can also take a calesa or the Tranvia-like vehicle ride around the Walled City.

“Old Spanish history”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

San Agustin church has a museum that is worthwhile. Casa Manila is also worth walking through, and Fort Santiago is interesting. All are very reasonably priced. The main street is easy to walk on, but the rest of Intramuros is a bit crowded and difficult to walk around. If you enjoy historical places, it's worth a day.

“Bit of culture in the chaos of Manila”

It felt a bit safer inside Intramuros. There are lovely churches and a nice historic feel in the area.

If you have a day or 2 to kill in Manila, it's worth checking it out. If you miss though I wouldn't sleep though.
