“WORST HOTEL EVER!!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2012

My family stayed here only for one night, thank goodness!!! We paid P3,400 for an Executive Room but got very disappointed with everything this hotel offers, except for the free airport transfer & the hot shower.
We had to ask for towels and bath mat twice as the receptionist ignored our 1st request. The toilet was leaking!!! We had to ask for 2 bath mats so we didn't have to step on the water around the toilet!!! Everytime we washed our hands or brushed our teeth, the drain got blocked and yucky water came out of it! The shower doors nearly fell off and the shower floor was very grotty and moldy. They didn't even have a soap holder in the shower!!! Fortunately, their hot water worked.
The room reeked of smoky & moldy smell!!! Our room looked & felt dirty, dilapidated and unworthy to be called an Executive room!! We were on the 4th floor but the adjoining rooms were noisy! I saw a cockroach crawling on the floor, too!
We had our dinner at their restaurant but the food (chopsuey & salmon) were very ordinary and cost too much. I didn't drink my softdrink because it tasted/smelled of coackroaches. Our daughter drank only 1/6 of her mango shake as it tasted terrible!!! We gave the waitress a tip but she didn't bother to thank us!
We were never informed they offer free breakfast. It was only when the van which will take us to the airport got there, that the guard asked us if we were not having brekky. We have been waiting for 20 mins but no one ever told us we could have free breakfast!
This hotel is the worst we've ever been & we will never come back to this place!!!!

Room Tip: There are better hotels nearby.

Good location, fair rooms but watch yourself. The taxi's outside are part of the Manila Taxi Mafia who refuse to use the meters, double the price of the fare, etc.
The staff sells tickets to SWAGMAN Travel, SWAGMAN "Fly The Bus", etc but refuse to claim responsibility if something goes wrong.
For example...I bought a Fly The Bus ticket for 600p so I can avoid a crowded van, smelly bus, etc since even their old bus is better than local transport. They use a van to take you directly to your hotel as an added bonus. However, last time I used Fly The Bus, they jammed us butt to elbow in a small stinky minivan and then advised this was the "bus" we would be in for the next 2+ hours. When I complained, Lori said "if you get out now, we will refund your money". Well the choice is then to get out and stand on the street while a confirmed ride drives away or suck it up. Not much of a choice but it's a total scam to advertise a nicer bus and then switch us to a lower grade transport. I felt sorry for one guy who realized the real Fly the Bus was in another city and he had to return in the same van.
Swagman Travel and Hotel all point fingers at each other and don't claim responsibility even though the desk clerk telling me this was selling tickets to the crappy van while we discussed it. No refund, no discount, no sympathy, no understanding of the concept of rip-off.....

Room Tip: Keep walking

Stayed here one night just for the airport transfer.,..never, ever again. What a dump. Got an economy room, and while you are never expecting miracles with anything economy, this would be the low end of the scale for budget backpackers, price was not economy, but the room sure was.

Nearly every tile in the bathroom was broken or marked in some way. The light switch for the vanity light was just hanging there by it's electrical wire (nice and safe for children). The shower curtain was stained and grotty. Water was at least hot in the shower. Drain in the shower was just a hole drilled into the cement.

Cracks in the walls and roof. Clear signs of where water had been leaking in. Not much maintenance being done here at all. Someone was burning plastic outside and it literally filled our room with fumes. The bed, well you might be just as comfy on the floor, my wife got up at 4am, saying she could not lie there anymore.

Front bar and entrance all looks nice, but that's it. Staff are friendly and all seem to have decent English. Seems to be a lot of people using this place for the travel center, which does seem to have a lot of tours and a couple of small buses for tourist activities...you can use these services without staying here.

There are maybe 20 hotels in this area, most would have to be better than this.

Only ate the buffet breakfast, so can't comment on other food...but the breaky was really fatty. I am not a health nut, but I don't want my food swimming in fat. Much of the fruit pieces were brown and dry, you had to be very picky if you were game.

Apparently it was recently owned by an Australian National, but has now been sold to a Chinese Filipino, so it will be interesting how long the Aussie flavor sticks around now.

Not a family place, many of the clients are the older gents staying with the much younger Filipino girl, nothing nice about that. Not saying they are all prostitutes, but clearly many were.

In a world of increasing travel and good quality hotels, you don't need to stay in a place like this.

Room Tip: Don't go there, use the travels services, but stay in another hotel.

Do not bring your wife here! The majority of the clients here are older Aussie men, spending a night (or less) with very young Philippino women. I'm not passing judgement on this; but it's not a place to take your wife! We were here for lunch last year, and were impressed by the lobby. Decided to stay here for our first entry night in the country. Dilapidated room and bath. Original room was so bad, we had to upgrade for $10 more, just to create a liveable situation. Poor service. No towels in the room. Staff is put out whenever you have a need or request. Don't stay here just because of the "free" airport transfer. The conditions would warrant a room price of $20 per night. One of the worst places we have ever stayed at. I am only giving it a rating at all, due to the decent buffet breakfast, and the fact that they changed $1,000 u.s. for me, at a decent rate, without having to trek through the Manila streets, looking for the right bank.

Room Tip: Upper floor.

When they say Budget, they mean Budget. Bed bugs, noisy elevator, no towels, busted tiles in the bathroom, rooster outside, hookers on the corner at night, cancelled (guaranteed) reservations, and every other negative aspect mentioned in the other reviews were so true. The free airport pickup is so lame it's rediculous. If your worried about the $10 taxi ride from the airport you probably should have stayed home. The only good thing about this place were the guys running the front door. I wasn't sure if they were security or bellmen but they were "right on time" with help when it was needed, as opposed to the Front Desk, who gave away the room and couldn't have cared less. If it hadn't been 1:15 in the morning we would have gone down the street to the "Other" hotel in a heartbeat. Paying a little bit more for a hotel room in Manila is definitely worth it. It's a real shame because I think with some serious maintenance this place could be fun hotel. It was in a reasonable neighborhood (for Manila) and the layout of the public areas was kinda cool if a little smallish. They even had zoomba class in the small park outside the front door. Final Answer: Giving away the room and bed bugs just trashed the whole experience. I gotta give lowest marks on everything. Sleeping on the sidewalk outside the train station in Calais when I was 25 was better than this.
