“Nice hotel in a not great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

I stayed at this hotel simply to gain points with Hyatt. It was not the standard Hyatt experience.
My late night arrival caused me to question the hotel. As we approached, I realized the area was not that great. Dark areas, lower class shops and then directly across the street is what seemed to be a red light district.
Upon entering, I felt like I was in a nicer hotel than the area.
The front desk staff were attentive and well trained.
Some of the guests were not so nice.
Elevators were fast and available- no waits during my stay.
I received a nice upgrade to a deluxe room and I was impressed!
Room was huge and bathroom was clean and big.
The internet fee of 800+pesos was unacceptable to me!
In the daylight, I liked the hotel more and the area was less imposing too.
My rate was very good and so I might consider another stay.

Room Tip: ask to face the water

Great hotel, great location. Comfortable beds, nice marble bathrooms, very clean. The room was spacious with tea and lovely toiletries. The breakfast spread is exceptional as was the fantastic service by the wait staff. The staff were amazing, so attentive at all times. You cannot go wrong with this choice and it was also a good value.

Once again i find myself overwhelmingly impressed with the consistency of the Hyatt product. Wherever i am in the world Hyatt is for me the most consistent in terms of quality of service and standard of furnishings regardless of the age of the property. This is not the newest of hotels in Manila, nor is it the most luxurious, but it is very very good, always.

I spent a week at this Hotel in October 2011. It was a family vacation, my wife and my son were with me. We flew on miles so I decided to splurge on the hotel. This hotel is one of the most expensive ones in Manila. It is about a 25 minute ride from the airport and taking a taxi was an expererience from and to the airport--watch the drivers, they are supposed to use the meter but they do not like to do so because they think you are loaded with money when you tell them you are going to the Hyatt.
The hotel is supposed to be located in a financial center type of neighborhood but it borders on a red light district at times. The hotel is clean, the staff is courteous, not much of a lobby, you have to go through a metal detector they set up outside and there are usually two security guys out front. Hotel room was very roomy and comfortable. It is a high rise so you have spectabular views of the city. It does have a Casino on the other side of the hotel and you do not want to use that entrance unless you can deal with cigarrette smoke.
Hotel food is expensive, you are better off going to the H&M mall which is two blocks away. That mall is huge, has plenty of stores and eating establishments. Also, a very secure location. The hotel is located in a bustling location. We walked out the first day and my wife forgot something and had to go back to the room. As I stood on the corner with my teenage son at 1000 in the morning I was approached by a couple of different guys who wanted to sell me viagra and cialis and who wanted to know if I was in need of "a lady". The streets near the mall seem to have lots of oldest profession practitioners who quietly practice their work. If you watch them carefully you will see them coming and going. Like previous posters have indicated there is a kareoke club accross the street with 5-10 young Asian women beckoning passing men to come on up and join them. I kept seeing "GRO Wanted" posters in many of the bar windows while I went to Jose Rizal Park, the old Spanish Presidio and the Museum. I asked the tour guide what that was and they laughed and told me those were young females who were needed to be Guest Relations Officer. Not making this stuff up. The immediate area also contained many older western men walking around with young ladies. A cab ride to the Mall of Asia, a place that takes about three hours to cover costs about 30 pesos. Location is 20 minutes away from the ferry to Corrigador and 10 minutes from the US Embassy. Really interesting location. No complaints on the hotel service and staff. I would probably stay at a much cheaper place if I went back---but that was a place that I can say been there done that. If I travel to the PI again, it will be to a location away from Manila.

Granted, I did not use the casino at all, nor did it affect my stay very much as their is a separate entrance. However, I was in Manila on business, so the casino seemed incongruous as I entered and left the conference rooms upstairs (which are accessed via elevators facing the casino, not the elevators to the rooms which are off the main lobby).

Still, the room quality and amenities were good. Breakfast was varied, with foods available from a wide range of cuisines (European, American, Philippine, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Indian to name the main ones). The workout facilities are excellent and offer both weight training and aerobic conditioning possibilities. I found the internet to work well. And unlike some other commentors, I liked the location because of the easy access it provided to many outside stores and restaurants, though I would agree that much of the neighborhood is not particularly savory (the hostesses from the Japanese lounge who periodically line up on the balcony across the street from the hotel entrance to wave at passing men are only one example of this).

I would return to the Hyatt Manila.

Stayed one night at this hotel due for a product update. Rooms were large, a lot of room to move around. Our room had adjoining twin beds. It had the standard room amenities (i.e refrigerator, mini bar, writing desk etc). The bathroom had classic marble floors with a few steps leading to the bath tub. We had breakfast at the Market Cafe. Food choices were plentiful though not as extravagant as other hotels though still enough to satisfy everyone's taste. The honey comb was a nice touch. Bircher muesli was good. The local and international fares were of good quality. The in house casino is enough for the gamblers out there. Overall, I would recommend this hotel as an alternative to Diamond hotel which is right next door.

Stayed here with my partner last May 2012.

I wasn't happy on how the staff eyed on me when I am with my foreign partner particularly when we were inquiring about dinner and when we were being seated for breakfast. Did not experience this in Shangri-La.

Wifi was quite expensive. Php 850 for 24 hours. Most hotels do not even charge for this. The hotel room was expensive enough.

The area of the hotel was something I haven't expected as Red Light Districts aren't really my thing. A must to avoid at night. Pimps scout the area for the potential customers during the night.

The casino was fun though and hanging by the pool was relaxing. Robinsons is quite near.

Not the quality I expected from a 5 star rated hotel.
