Century Park Hotel
Ranked #24 of 111 Hotels in Manila
Reviewed August 7, 2012

I booked this through agoda and that rate cannot be found at all at the hotel's own website. That must be why they gave us those rooms that still seem they haven't been renovated since the 1980s.

The good:
1. Location, next to a shopping mall and the primary reason we chose this hotel is because a lot of our destinations are near here.
2. Staff are friendly and courteous. They might lie to you but at least they're smiling.

The bad:
1. The room is really old and carpet is full of stains. The layout comes from the 1980s when people did not carry laptops and cell phones, so there's no convenient outlet where you can plug them. And worse, if you turn off certain lights, certain electrical outlets also get turned off. One needs to push so many buttons for the TV to work. It is complicated as it comes with a page of instructions in various languages placed on the TV stand.
2. Staff will not grant early check in. Requested early check in as we arrived at 11am, won't let us. We got the room at 12noon, but honestly did not look anything like it has recently been cleaned or it was occupied the night before.
3. Itchy bed. We all felt itchy after the first night. Most likely bedbugs or maybe the sheets haven't been changed for a very long time. Requested what they can do, and the front desk just said they're going to spray. Front desk also told me that they're full so no room change possible.
4. Staff will not grant late check out. They gave us till 1pm, most other hotels I stay at least will accommodate 2pm or 3pm. Again, they said they're full which I can understand if it's really true. However, when we stayed there, it seemed actually we were the only guests on the entire floor. Never had any one shared elevators to go up or to go down when we stayed from Saturday to Monday.
5. Bell service will tell you taxis are metered but the taxis there will want you to pay fixed rate. Taxi drivers said it's because the hotel makes them line up for hours to only get one passenger. On the way back, all taxis readily are fine with meters. Taxi drivers said they line up for hours at the hotel to get just one passenger, which is another indication there aren't many guests at that time.

If they're more honest, would've considered paying more and getting a better room or at least early checkin or late checkout. But then, they won't admit it.

Thank you so much for posting a review. You are correct, all online travel agent's rate (like you mentioned AGODA) that we have a contract with, cannot be found in the hotel's website. They can only be accessed in each OTA's website or other related website.

We would like to apologize for all the bad experiences you mentioned in your review. We have refurbished deluxe rooms available, we assure you that you will find these rooms within your expectations.

We regret that you felt the staff were not truthful, if this was your impression we assure you this were never their intention. On the other hand, we are thankful that you have found our staff friendly and courteous. This will motivate them to be always at their best.

We are greatly concerned about your experience with the taxi driver. The taxi driver's statement "that it's because the hotel makes them line up for hours to only get one passenger " is incorrect, the hotel has no authorized taxi lane within our premises. What we have is a transportation company that services transportation needs of our guests. Their units are not similar to a regular taxi. However, if a guest requested for a regular taxi, our bell service will hail the nearest available taxi on the streets and they should be metered. Some unscrupulous taxi driver would claim they are hotel taxis even if they are not.

Once again, we apologize for all the inconvenience we have caused you, we hope that you will give us another chance to be of service to you.

This is an OK hotel in downtown. Near the airport, Bay area and historical Intramuros. Relatively close to Makati area and the cultural center, MOA, are just nearby. If you are interested in the downtown area, this could be one of the good choices. Traffic is terrible though. Reasonable rooms.

The beds are comfortable, the bathroom large and well lit. The staff were very nice. The room service food was good.

It is an older hotel and a bit worn around edges but not a bad place.

The biggest problem for me was the very limited number of electrical outlets given the amount of gadgets that most of us travel with these days.

This was just for a layover of one late night so I did not use any of the amenities.

I didn't hear about this hotel until Philippine Airlines offered us (a party of 4) accommodation due to their codeshare airline AirPhil FAILED to communicate with them of the delayed flight that caused us a vacation day wasted of our connecting flight to another island.

But anyhow, this is a review of this hotel so I must not grunt & rant about how we ended here. Upon arrival, front desk seemed to be un-informed about our reservation but since i had a paper with me they courteously accommodate me. Offered to give us 2 rooms for our party.

The rooms were spacious but it doesnt justify the fact that everything is dated. Perhaps a remodeling is long overdue? Carpets were stained. The rooms reeks a distinct smell. The beds were old and sheets were ripped...really? Few bugs were sighted in both rooms. Yikes! We utilized the slippers that they provided for the room. Bathroom had its basic shampoo/conditioner, toilet papers. Nothing else.

I checked out their pool and it seemed pretty decent. Nice size for swimmers and non-swimmers alike.

Lobby was located on a lower level than the front desk area. It seemed to have that "convention kind of a hotel" feel.

Dinner buffet was the only positive review I could give. Kudos to the chefs for preparing a wide variety of cuisine to choose from. From prime rib that my son enjoyed to my favorite sashimi and my mother's seafood selection...this was great! I thought i saw a section for some tomyoong soup but i didnt try it as i was mainly focused on sushi/sashimi area.

Overall, ive stayed at a much better hotel and i won't come back to stay here but i will come back for their dinner buffet. I travel around the world and i suggest to have this hotel renovated/remodeled. Im sure this hotel was a hip back in their glory days but it certainly need to catch up with the new era.

It's Sunday night and I've left the Dusit Thani for Century Park hotel. Staff were friendly on arrival, the reservation found and i was checked in quickly. The room i was given had a nice modern look and i loved the bathroom. The shower had both low flow and high flow heads to choose from with the high flow being ceiling mounted which accommodates tall people well. Certainly not the best location compared to other hotels. Overall another average hotel.
