As yo go into the hotel, security is like going through airport security with scanners and all. Which I do not mind.

As you view the lobby, it has this very vintage, cozy feel to it. You can still sense that old world charm which is very nice. This charm extends to my room (stayed on the 13th floor), which is very clean. My room has all this wood finishes imposes the "old world" appeal. The view of my room is the Intramuros and the Manila skyline on the east side, where I get the sunrise. Am like, wow. This hotel, in terms of its charm, holds up to its name. To me, it is waaayyy nicer compared to other 5 star hotels in Manila, Makati, Ortigas.

Buffet breakfast has really good selection, mostly Filipino, i saw some Korean, and continental as well.

Since its across the street from Intramuros, its walking distance to historic Luneta.

Behind the hotel is 7-11, not a pretty side walking outside hotel property but you see security here and there, so all is good.

Room Tip: The other side of the building is facing manila bay which is where the sunset is.

If you love to stay somewhere with character and story this is the place. Beautiful hotel on the bay. Prices are the same in usd for food, drinks, etc so don't expect Filipino prices.

Beds are small but Modern technology like wifi keys, sensored room lights, very nice bathrooms!

Great service and the staff are dressed very well in traditional clothing from a past era.

I have availed the summer promo of 4999php without breakfast and 500 off on pool bar drinks. Not bad because breakfast can be bought outside this hotel. No welcome drinks given to us (maybe because its only summer promo), but welcome fruits given on our room. Front desk is not accomodating. He looks preoccupied; not accomodating. My boyfriend is a baskeball fan he brings everywhere his ball to him. The front guard asked him to hand it to them because for security reason?! (A rubber baskeball will have a security threat in manila hotel???) Not a very nice welcome to us.

The only flaw is the SERVICE.

Good things are: cleanliness is spotless. Location its near ocean park, rizal park, US embassy, Children museum, and intramuros. Pool is huge and with a pool bar. Gym is well equipped. Room is on the 14th floor with the view of manila. Comfy and classic wooden styled room. Value is very good less than a 5k for an overnight stay is a good deal.

Of course, the entrance is jaw dropping with the ladies in their beautiful attires (4 types of dresses) and the spacious hall, but then your travails start. It takes the lady easily 10 minutes and numerous documents to check you in. In the meantime, there is plenty of time and staff to serve the welcome drink, but they prefer to hand out a coupon for later use. No problems with the rooms, spacious and clean, but one would not expect something else from such a ´grand old lady.´Management´s preference starts with the dinner (in Ilang Ilang). The ridiculous ´wait till you´ll be served sytems´ is meticulously worked out here. the restaurant is half empty, but don´t you ever dare to take some initiative. No sir. Three girls frolicking with each other at the entrance, but wait, or else......
It is not easy to find a restaurant with so much staff, but they are just administering whatever the heavy layers of middle management requires them to administer. Alas for the clients, they have to sit and wait before the order is being taken ....... and the food is being served. Don´t take dinner here, the food is relatively mediocre and attuned to the American palate. Instead, try out Ilustrado in Intramuros ( PHP 200 by taxi) for real upgraded Philippino food or other dishes.
Breakfast is waiting in a queue, whereas you have to wait till..... Indeed. I would prefer that these sit and waitresses, clean up the tables and there would be no problem.
The buffet choice, however, is impeccable, but supplies are poorly replenished. And of course, at the end of the meal you have to wait for a chit to sign off, what else?
Free advice: cut two layers of management in order to become efficient.

My wife and I stayed here on 21 March 2014, after we found a deal on Agoda for 5000 pesos.
Check-in took around 10 minutes.
The rooms were not very big, but certainly not too small. The bed was huge and very firm, but we slept very well on it and appreciated the silence of the hotel.
The facilities on offer were also very good, especially the pool and massage service.

We found the breakfast buffet, which was included in our package, to be excellent and varied. As a non-lover of seafood, I wasn't very pleased with the evening buffet, but there were some fair a la carte options to compensate (though these weren't especially nice).

One thing that bothered me slightly was the decor and color scheme of the hotel. It's full of browns and yellows, and, together with the aged furniture, the whole place feels like 1975.

The street outside seems to be a no-go area for tourists, but to be honest, Manila in general isn't for the faint-hearted.
