If you choose Sofitel as I do, you will know of that special fragrance and ambience that is synonymous with the Hotel chain, but in the case of the Sofitel Philippines Plaza it has all but gone. Quite simply, it would appear that management has said drop standards, drop prices and we will fill the hotel. They were right but now the once elegant hotel is overcrowded with non-smoker rooms being permeated with smoke-filled aircon units and queues to take to the elevator. The room keys which also operate the elevators always need replacement every couple of days...which is annoying, but that has been the case over the past four years. The junior suite I stayed in always smelt musty unless there was cigarette smoke through the aircon. Having access to the Sofitel Club would usually have been worthwhile however the Chef/Cook burnt the breakfast bacon on day one, served stale mini muffins and blow-torched hollandaise with the Eggs Benedict on day two. Day three the eggs didn't arrive with the breakfast and so that was it...no more. The jewel in the crown was the "Le Bar" restaurant which is excellent thanks to the German Restaurant Manager who really knows her stuff. The staff at the Sofitel are always respectful, courteous and pleasant but this does not excuse the feeling that the Sofitel Philippines Plaza should be renamed the Novotel or the Mercure.

Food was amazing, especially breakfast. However, how can you justify charging so much and not providing free internet for guest? Second, we had a 3 days meeting and everyone got sick because of air conditioning. It was 30ºC outside, ok but do we really need 15ºC inside????

Using my Accor Plus Advantage membership, I was able to stay for ten nights in a Junior Suite with every inclusion imaginable. The Filipinos in every hotel in Manila are pretty special but at this Sofitel, the staff try that little bit extra. They are polite at all times, incredibly respectful and will do almost anything to ensure one's stay is the very best possible. Most staff are bi-lingual (English and Tagalog) but they are many who also speak French and two that are proficient in German. The rooms are great, the beds and pillows are oh so comfortable and the location is safe and handy to everything...only 6km from International Airport. A stay at the Sofitel Manila is a must!

Other than the noise that woke us in the middle of the night due to outdoor noise such as car buzzing & fireworks, experience was good. Service was great and ambiance was excellent. The server at the outdoor bar Sunday morning extended her service by taking time to take our photos.

Hotel is situated by the bay with an excellent view. Rooms are generally clean but the rooms need renovation. The television is ancient (the bulky picture tube type) and the furniture needs refurbishing. The walls are ancient too and needs remodeling. The hotel is classified as a 5-star/deluxe hotel but the rooms don't show it. The lobby, restaurant, and poolside are nice.
