The rooms are well-appointed and the hotel has the range and quality of facilities you would expect of the Sofitel brand. However, the Sofitel Manila is just too chaotic and disorganised to be considered a pleasant, relaxing experience. It is more of a circus with corporate events, family gatherings taking over the restaurants, loud music, queues at the check-in counters and staff stepping over each other in the general confusion. For those that love loud, cluttered, crowded hotels, look no further than the Sofitel Manila.
I was not impressed with the 30 minute wait at the reception desk to check-in. Nor with the clumsy way I was eventually transferred to another room. The "overservicing" of guests is also very annoying. Staff knocked on my door 6 times in one afternoon. I kept asking for a "do not disturb" sign but that request got lost in the confusion.
Staff are generally very friendly and well-trained, and the restaurants (despite the noise of lobby music) are very good. However, the size of them often means you are waiting for a long time for service. This hotel does not compare to other Sofitel properties in the region.
As for the sleep quality, it could be very good with the comfortable bedding. However, it is let down by the thin walls and the noise in the corridors (kids running up and down and screaming, even on the "Club" floors). This is not a hotel for honeymooners, but good for families.
