The Sofitel was exactly as expected - a quality product from a global brand. The room was clean, fresh and a decent size. Modern fittings and ample amenities. The staff are extremely attentive - especially around the lobby area.
The garden and pool area outside is lovely with a view across Manila Bay. We didn't use the restaurant but did order some room service late one night. The food was fine but the two cocktails were dreadful - one clearly with the wrong ingredients and one which was undrinkable.
Location is all important in Manila because the traffic is abysmal and you can sit for two hours trying to cross the city. If it's shopping around Greenbelt or Makati that you want then stay at the Dusit Thani, Mandarin or Peninsula; but if you like being by the bay and want to shop in the Mall of Asia or have the option of eating at the bayside restaurants or bars then Sofitel is a good choice.
Security is tight - like many of the big Manila hotels - but it is needed and on our last night we were mugged at night not far from the hotel and returning to the safety of the Sofitel was welcomed. Manila is crime ridden so be nice to the security guys; they are there for all the right reasons.
