The Bayleaf Intramuros
Ranked #4 of 111 Hotels in Manila
Reviewed December 25, 2012

If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay with a relaxed atmosphere in Manila this is it. The hotel is located in Intramuros(the old walled city of Manila). Remnants of the wall are right across the street from the hotel entrance. We enjoyed a relaxing stroll along the battlements on Christmas morning which allowed us to see some of Intamuros' sites at are our own pace. Our contact with the hotel began before our arrival as I emailed to confirm our reservations for 24-26 Dec. Our confirmation was expeditiously replied to by Francis Serrano(Reservations Associate).
Upon our arrival on Xmas eve day we were greeted by smiling faces and enthusiastic employees starting our stay off with positive vibes. The front desk staff lead by John made the check -in/chek-out experiences painless. The breakfast buffets were excellent as were the appetizers we had on the 1st night and the entrees we had on the 2nd night. The dining room is on the 9th floor but I recommend eating on the Sky Deck which is a floor above so you can savior the fabulous 360 degree view of Manila. We wish to thank the entire staff for making our mini Christmas holiday so enjoyable. We will be staying here on future visits to Manila. One recommendation please either raise the daily rate to include the price of robes/slippers or include at your current rate, seems very cheesy to say they are available for 35 php. Either way would not prevent me from enjoying your hotel on many more ocassions

This hotel is impressive. The rooms are a decent size for the price, the decor is brand new and the bathrooms are really spacious too. The Skybar is great for drinks and for capturing the atmosphere of Manila: late at night on Christmas Eve we could hear the whole city partying and it was wonderful. Intramuros is perhaps a good metaphor for the Philippines: on first glance it is run-down and incredibly poor, but there are some charming places, lots of history and wonderfully friendly people. This brings me onto the staff at the hotel who were all quite wonderful. Kim especially went out of her way to help us during our stay at the hotel. A friend joined us on our trip from HK at the last minute and it was no problem getting an extra bed in the room. All the staff spoke excellent English and they were real ambassadors for Filipino hospitality. If you can't quite stretch to the prices of the Peninsula et al in Makati, and want to explore old Manila, this hotel is perfect and really does have some of the best staff in any hotel I have stayed in around the world. Thank you, Bayleaf :-)

I was born and raised in Manila but my wife and I decided to move to the province of Laguna when we began raising our family. Christmas is our time of going back to the city, and this year we chose Bayleaf to be our hotel.
We arrived on December 24, and with barely an hour before sunset, we took the kids to a brief tour of the centuries old Intramuros wall which is very near the hotel.
The hotel is very nice. There's ample parking at the basement. The elevators are spacious. The lobby is modern and it even has a grand piano and several couch in one corner. We got two rooms on the 5th floor. Unfortunately, the only rooms left for us were not facing the golf course. The rooms, however, were very spacious for a boutique hotel and had everything we need including a personal ref and hairdryer. The toilet/bath, too, were spacious. It would have been perfect, though, if there were slippers and bathrobes. But then I guess that would hike the rates a bit.
We were assisted to our room by a bell boy named Alfie who proudly announced that he was a product of Lyceum, a school owned by the Laurel family who, incidentally also owned the hotel. So that's where the Bayleaf name came from -- Laurel is bayleaf in English.
We did not have time anymore to enjoy Bayleaf for dinner as we had to leave for noche buena in my in-laws in another area. We came back after midnight to rest. The morning after we went to the 9 Spoons restaurants to have breakfast. Since we were six in our group, we had to wait for a table to be available. The receptionist asked us if we wanted to wait on the sky deck and I'm glad we did. The view there was awesome -- a panoramic view of Manila from all sides, made more special by the green from the golf course below and the skyline on the direction of the Manila Bay. I must confess: It was the first time I saw the city of my birth from such a vantage point.
The breakfast at 9 Spoons was excellent. They had fresh vegetable salad, fruits, roasted pork, beef tapa, sausages, bread, rice, congee, and pastries. They even have fresh calamansi juice. Our whole family loved everything.
The restaurant's manager Randy Mejia told us that they are always full during weekends as those working in Intramuros have discovered their buffet (P600). They also have buffet for dinner during Fridays and Saturdays. People, he said, love the food and the ambience -- plus, of course, the great view of Manila through the restaurant's floor-to-ceiling windows.
We will definitely be back in this hotel, maybe for business or maybe for leisure again. Oh, it certainly would be nice to have a historical tour or play a round of golf in our next visit.

Room Tip: Request for a room facing the golf course.

We stayed overnight to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. The interiors of the hotel is chic and fantastic. The room is spacey, unlike other deluxe suites. We are facing the golf course with really nice view of the city. We really enjoyed our stay. Til' next time!
