People in the Phillipines worship Rizal, which means that everyone with nothing to do just loiters around the Rizal Shrine. That said, the actual shrine is well kept and nice for a sit down and a couple of photo ops

Interesting to learn the history of the man, and what he stood for in Manila, but pretty quick look through, as it contains family furniture of the time, unfortunately he died at 35 so not able to accumulate a lot of personal effects but extremely well travelled for his years and for his time

Compared to other local parks / gardens / spaces, they've done a very nice job of maintaining the gardens and basic grounds, even though the many of the buildings on site are now just shells.

It was great to see hoards of school kids beings shown around and fully costumed actors reliving historical moments for them; keeps a place like this alive and relevant.

The museum part may not hold your attention for too long; it has a few interesting artifacts, but like so much of historical Manila needs a facelift (or at least a good dusting!)

There are good views of the North bank of the Pasig River looking over towards the docks, Chinatown, Quiapo etc, and the ramparts offer excellent spots for snapping yourself a "selfie" (what else?!) or that group shot for the folks back home.

The place does have that "safe relaxing haven" feel from the relentless churn of Manila life, so for that lone its worth an hour or two.

(PS: I have mixed feelings about the very ornate horse and carriages that operate there; the poor animals stand about heaving for breath in the heat with tongues lolling out the sides of thier mouths. I f you are care about animal welfare probably best not to patronise them.)

Situated along Roxas Blvd, next to the US embassy this historical park was the site of Dr. Jose Rizal's execution in 1896. Beautiful, setting next to Manila bay. It needs an overhaul, the different gardens are old, badly maintained. Facilities are non existent.
