We were looking forward to one last hurrah before school started so we went to Manila Ocean Park. I think it's nice that we have this kind of attraction here in the Philippines, considering that marine life is so abundant in and around our country. We enjoyed going through the oceanarium, viewing the jellyfish exhibit and watching the sea lion show. Unfortunately, those were the only good points for us.

The park is small yet the over-all design seems disjointed. The attractions are separate from each other with no thought given to the flow of people. Visitors are allowed only single entry to the exhibits. I think it would have been better to allow repeated entry for as long as that attraction is part of your ticket. There are very few food stalls available and the few that were there had very limited food offerings. There were very few park attendants to guide visitors. The sea lion show, though entertaining, was short. The light and sound show would have been nice, but they chose to make it tacky, with mascots providing unnecessary skits depicting slapstick humor. It would have been much better if they just concentrated on the lights and the music. Admission is quite expensive too. Definitely not coming back.

It was my second visit to the ocean park and I expected the place to be different in terms of improvements. What I found was a big disappointment. The place was falling apart, dirty and smelly, not at all what you would expect to impress tourists. There were a lot of visitors, mostly from the province, and you could see kids running around unsupervised. Signs telling visitors not to use flash cameras, or throw garbage were totally ignored. There were no park attendants to monitor people around the aquarium or anywhere else around the park. It was a real waste of time having to line up under the hot summer sun just to see the sea lion show which was over in such a short time.

We were able to walk here from where our ship docked, which was nice. We got the most basic admission, which included the aquarium and the penguin exhibit. There are other options available, including an experience with hawks and one with sharks. The aquarium is very nicely done and they have some excellent exhibits, that include a wide variety of fish and other sea creatures. Once we were done with the fish, we went up to see the penguins. The inner tube slide was a lot of fun, but the penguin exhibit was very sparse (for those of us who have seen plenty of penguins), but probably good, given that Manila is rather tropical. They also had a cold room with various winter-type things that made good photo ops for people who really aren't familiar with snow. The only real negative here was that it was not possible (as far as we were able to find out) to leave the aquarium directly. And once we did exit the aquarium complex, we ended up in a mall that was very confusing to find our way out of. That said, this was definitely a nice aquarium and worth visiting. They have a huge gift shop with very reasonable prices. You should know that at the snack bar they accept only local cash, and at the gift shop you need a minimum purchase to use a credit card.

There was great special while we were in Manila on our last visit so decided to go and spend the day here. The overall attractions are great; the Fish Spa is an experience not to be missed. We had lunch at Makan Makan Asian Food Village, it was one of the best means we had on our whole 6 week trip to the Philippines and very well process.
One area we really hated was the so-call mall. It’s really just a bunch of stalls selling rubbish and they hassle you every time you walk past and there’s really no way to avoid it. It’s completely unnecessary in this kind of attraction.
Overall well worth a visit
