“A sanctuary”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Amidst the hullabaloo of Male the Seagull Cafe is a place where you can relax with good food from a very varied menu: Maldivian, Western, Indian, etc. The garden downstairs is an ice cream parlour with super cakes as well. It has a huge tree in the middle of it that grows through the floor of the terrace on the first floor and up through the roof. As all places in non-resort Maldives there is no alcolhol.

“Great ice cream”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

I can only comment on the ice cream (but they do serve hot food too), which was amazing. I can thoroughly recommend the fresh fruit salad with as many dollops of Italian-style ice cream as you can manage. A bit expensive, but an exciting find on a hot and dusty walk around the city.

“overrated food”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

at dinner (on a friday night) i was very disappointed being served bland lukewarm fish cooked most likely the day before and served with a tasteless orange sauce and some nonsense vegetable (from a can?) . next time i may try just the icecream.

“Hands-Down, the best Ice Cream in Male'- maybe even the Maldives.”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

The Ice-Cream is and always will be the selling point of this cafe'. However, the Club Sandwich and the salad is also a big plus. If you are ordering a Grilled Cheese sandwich, always ask the staff to make sure that the cheese is melted.

Just had breakfast here on our layover in Male. Location was perfect for us. Close to our guest house and not far from the water. Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere. We sat inside under cover as it was raining but the patio area with trees growing inside was very nice. My husband had the eggs Benedict which he said was very good just unusual having the cold Bernaise sauce on the side. I had the French toast w/berry compote. The toast was lukewarm and the berry compote was cold but very good anyway. Maybe it's a cultural thing to serve food at those temperatures as we have been told the locals usually eat with their hands (right hand only). As we were finishing they put fresh, warm croissants in the case so I just had to try one. The chocolate croissant was one of the best I've ever had which have been many. We paid $20 for breakfast which may be a big high but we had extra tea, cappuccino, and my croissant. After traveling in Australia during the past month it was a bargain and well worth it. Definitely would recommend this restaurant.
