First of all we used to stay here 2 years ago and everything was fine and this year trip we have to drop at Kl for one night before other place so we decided to book the hotel again due to good location and resonable price. We sent e-mail to the hotel and got confirmed booking for tripple room (detached bathroom ) and noted for our late arrival(at 0100 hrs) and the price that's Mr.Simon (hotel staff) confirmed is 118 Rm per night. We printed out all e-mail and confirmation booking with us and on arrival night we just walk through and hope that we could get in to the room and take a rest but the guy at reception force us to pay 138 Rm per night for our room. Actually i could just pay him but when i asked about the e-mail that Mr.Simon sent to us and i show an e-mail that i printed out to him, he not even read it carefully and when i asked him again to see the price so he said that he don't know if i want that price i have to get or ask from Mr.Simo (now 0130 hrs). If we want to stay here for tonight i have to pay other rate. As we are hotel staff and work for hotel so many years we can not accept that kind of answer so we walk out and surch for others hotel near by and finally we so happy for our decision because we got better hotel just at the back of YMCA, the room so clean, chic and modern with private bathroom (myhotel@sentral) and the room rate similar with YMCA . We have 2 rooms here and pay 90 RM per each room even we have to pay more but that's answer from hotel staff will never acceptable.
Dear manager of the hotel, as i am a manager from some hotel in Phuket too please pay more attention to night shift staff then this case may not happen.

Room Tip: Best thing for this hotel is location but around here have so many hotels too.

Good Rooms, No hot water in the sink only in the showers. There is a hot water maker but no coffee or tea.(penang ymca has all those things).

Friendly front desk staff. Right front of the Monorail. Close to the Sentral Railway Station.

Breakfast is small and can be a snack! Left Luggage small or big 2R for each! This is the only YMCA we had to pay for left luggages. I worked for the Vancouver YMCA we never charge for the left luggages and kept for even longer time-weeks-very big luggages- FREE!!

Few days before we left for our Kuala Lumpur trip, I had problem looking for affordable but good hotels to stay. Several e-mails were sent to several hotels but there were no available rooms for the date of our trip. Thanks to my friend's friend for suggesting YMCA. The rate at 118RM for double bed and 138RM for triple bed is cheap but the experience is great. The rooms are big and clean. The service is commendable, from the front desk staffs to the cafe crew. The food is good. The location is very accessible, i.e. near the KL Central Station, the Monorail, the 11B Stop of the Hop on Hop off Bus, the Little India, etc.
YMCA is very convenient for travellers especially those flying via Air Asia. From the LCCT Airport we took a Sky Bus (there is also an Aero Bus) for 8RM for adults and 6RM for children that brought us to the KL Central Station and from there we just walked for 5-10 mins. to reach the hostel.
I already recommended this place to my friends. :-)

Yes, it's cheap, yes it's clean. But so are lots of other places. I quite enjoyed my stay here earlier this year, but it's not one of those really memorable places you find these days. The staff were all nice enough, but the place lacked, um, how can i say, lacked soul.

Keeps the rain off your head, doesn't cost much.

We decided to stay at YMCA in Penang, and we're glad we did. Not only it was affordable, but it was clean and the staff were amazing. They were prompt in everything. The room is rather spartan, but then it's nice.
