“Good hotel to explore Kuala Lumpur”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2009

We stayed in February 2009 4 nights in the Parkroyal hotel for sightseeing reasons and enjoyed our stay there.

The hotel is very well located
- only 100 metres away from the monorail station Bukit Bintang
- easy to get to all major sites with metro lines
- near Bintang Walk
- just a few steps to many shopping centres
- 5 minutes by car away from Puduraya station where you can take busses to all cities of Peninsular Malaysia

Other positive things of the hotel are:
- very good rooms with an interesting concept
- live music in hotel bar
- complimentary shuttle to Petronas Towers
- good house keeping
- complimentary internet terminal in lobby would have been fine

Negative aspects are:
- air conditioning in room was too cold and couldn't be changed by us
- windows are not very well isolated

Had a few problems at this hotel to start with but eventually got them sorted.

The two biggest ongoing issues are front desk is very slow and there is only two elevators! At peak times you have to wait 15min for an elevator. Now they say that they are upgrading one but guests who stayed there before say that there has only been two working for a long time.

In relation to front desk service they dont put enough people on check in. The people on the desk are quite efficient but its a long wait.

We wanted adjoining rooms for two boys travelling with us. A look at the floor plan limits you in this case to room just beside the elevator and beside the services cabinet. So you hear the elevator bells and water running of a night.

Make sure you specify a non smoking room. We had a room change after one night due to having a smoking room, and position beside the elevators.

Most of the pool is in shade with limited chairs.

The breakfasts were great.
The location is great - we saw birds eye view of NYE fireworks from our room. Its a few steps to the monorail, and there are short walks to many shopping centres.

Overall the start was ordinary - but it ended up being a comfortable hotel if they fixed the elevators (aussie guests were sneaking around the back taking the service elevators!).

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you found our Front Office to be slow. I will certainly investigate your comments.
We do acknowledge that the situation with our lifts is a little frustrating. We are completely replacing all 3 of our lifts and each one takes about four months to complete. Fortunately we are nearly at the end of this exercise as we are currently completing work on the last lift.

My partner and I were visting KL as part of 2 centre holiday and it was our first time in the city. We could not recommend the Parkroyal highly enough. The location was superb - close to the shops and walking distance to most places within the city - also very close to the monorail if you preferred not to travel by foot.

The hotel was spotlessly clean. The room wasn't huge but I would never expect this in a city centre hotel. However it was very well equipt and the bathroom was gorgeous. We had slippers, a robe and a turndown in the evening.

The breakfast was very good - lots of choice and all nicely cooked. The staff were excellent - always on hand to offer assistence if we hung aroung the lobby in a vague manner.

Considering what we paid (about £50 a night) I could not believe that we got this standard of hotel in a major city.

First time at this hotel. Chose it cuz of the positive reviews.

The hotel is fine, clean and the beds are very comfortable.
Stayed in the delux twin room. spacious and all the main ammenities are included. decor is a bit bare but its simple and modern.
Breakfast - lots of choices. pretty good.

best thing about the hotel is the location! very near the malls in Bukit Bintang. and the road behind the hotel - Jalan Imbi offers lots of local food. there is a also a morning market there.

One thing that was disappointing was the reservations.
called to asked about their promo rates published on their website but the staff had no idea about it.

another thing is seems that the room card (using a chip) sometimes need to be validated from time to time. can be annoying if u try to open the door and it doesnt work. Staff said it could be due to radiation from mobile phones.

Stayed with my family in Grand Plaza Parkroyal Hotel for 4 nights. So far, the design of the hotel is relaxing yet showing the theme of serenity where you really can do yoga (if you dare to do it) if you bring along your yoga mat. The door opener politely welcomed us. We upgraded to a room into a orchid club room with an increment of RM 64. There's Sony LCD's hanging on the wall with different variety of channels such as Disney Channel, Star World, Axn, Sports Channel, Vision 4, some local TV channels and much more just to suit different people's needs. There's normal appliances you need to have is available in the room such as hair dryer, fridge, water boiler. The Gym facilities was just simple, providing treadmill, most of the workout equipments related with weightlifting, a few mats for stretching exercise, workout bicycle, hot cold water dispenser, television and towels. With purchasing the orchid club room, we can get free breakfast for 2 every morning, and free light buffet after 5pm on the 6th floor and free internet access. But the price of evian's mineral water was too expensive along with items in the minibar. Newspapers are provided free of charge every morning.. and sometimes, the staff has to interrupt you for awhile, just to check the items in the mini bar was not consumed or the items will get straight to the bill.

Take note that before registering yourself for a room, please make sure with the receptionist whether you are going to a smoking floor or not. And I would like to thank them for not making so much hassles comparing with some other hotels.

Pro's

Reasonable price
Beautiful furnishing/Simple design
Pretty comfortable and wide enough bed
Enough room facilities
Free internet access breakfast in the morning and light buffet after 5pm (Applicable only to Orchid Club applicants)
Has a swimming pool and simple gym facilities.

Con's

Air conditioner in the room is extremely dry (The wet clothes will get dry in a few hours.)
Transparent glasses in the bathroom which may not be appropriate to some other else.
Items in the minibar are too expensive (In my opinion as a local)
You have to pay RM57 per day to get internet access in certain packages.

Have a look on those pictures I have taken with my cameraphone. Sorry for bad quality.

  • Liked — You wont get bored if you stay there long. Slept well.
  • Disliked — Air-conditioner goes too dry.

this was the last of the places we stayed on our 4 week holiday and after the terrible guest house we had stayed in on langkawi thought we may treat ourselves we stayed 2 nights the room was pretty clean though the bathroom could have done with a bit more cleaning the bed was good and we slept well the hotel is in a pretty good place to get around from and the price wasn't to bad there is better if you shop around. we ate at the hotel one night and had breakfast both morning which was pretty good as we left at 6.45am on the last day
the meals were hearty and good value nothing to write home about but we have had worse. They don't seem to be able to get it when you want to pay cash though seem to think your going to run out on them which isn't very relaxed when you get messages from the desk each morning asking when your going to pay, we had paid for all of our accommodation this way and this was the only hotel which seemed to have a problem with getting paid when checking out, no one wants to hand over their credit card details these days and if the Sheraton , four seasons and other 5 star hotels get this i am sure a 3 or 4 star hotel can.

  • Liked — the ginger bread house

It is in a perfect location, just a few minutes walk to Pavilion, Monorail, Bintang Walk and Jalan Alor. THe breakfast is also very good. Although not a grand or very high class hotel, the rate is very reasonable with its location and service.
