Owner description: Muzium Negara was officially opened on 31 August 1963, on the site of the Selangor Museum, which was accidentally bombed during the Second World War.The main museum building houses four exhibition galleries featuring Malaysia’s history and rich cultural diversity. The Prehistory Gallery showcases the formation of the Malay Archipelago with findings of numerous important prehistoric archaeological sites in Malaysia. There's no need to book ahead, just be at the museum front desk about 10 mins before.Tours are in English - but tours in Malay, Mandarin, French, Japanese and other languages are also available. For the latest schedule, please check the museum website.

Museum entrance are guarded by some old trains worth taking pics...as you move towards the main hall entrance, there are some more old transport including tricycle rickshaws. Tickets is 5rm each for expat, so not the cost to lighten your pocket
Museum has 4 galleries in all (one of which on Toda's Malaysia, under renovation) starting from Malay old kingdoms, coins and old ages in one gallery including wax structures of rock age man
The best one I found was the advent of Portuguese and those era where Malaysian were ruled by British..the Gallery had some very good wax portraits of the industrial development, growth of rubber industry, etc, in Malaysia
Though not a big museum, but still able to cover the Malaysian history in a very smooth and guiding way taking approx. 1-2 hrs to complete the entire museum in detail
Best time to visit is in afternoon..as you don't feel the heat and coolly complete an attraction of KL

Having read some of the previous reviews I wasn't expecting too much but was pleasantly surprised. It is well laid out, spacious and my twin daughters of 6 and my elder daughter of 9 were very interested in the exhibits, so much so that we so spent a good couple of hours there. It is priced very well to 5rm for adults 2rm for children above 6.

We spent an hour or two walking round the museum. It is very informative about how Malaysia was first formed & also about the different cultures. Unfortunately when we were there (Aug 2013) the "Malaysia Today" section was closed for refurbishment which was a shame. The museum was very clean & tidy.

Outside there are some old cars & trains to view, toilets & a cafe. It's only a 5/10 minute walk from Sentral station.

I really enjoyed my visit to the museum in August 2013. One of the rooms was closed (Malaysia today) which was a shame, but all of the displays in the other three rooms were fascinating. Lots of history and lots to learn about Malaysias past. I'm surprised this isn't higher up in the list of things to see in KL! I'd highly recommend a visit - a really interesting museum!

A fascinating visit telling the story of the region starting from the paleolithic and ending in the 1960s or so (they are presently, July 2013, working on the contemporary exhibition). This was absolutely worth the 5 RM in admission. Once they get that contemporary exhibition up it will be a full story of the history of Malaysia.

The museum is easy to access e.g. by taking your choice of transportation to KL Sentral and walking 0.5 km from there. Personally, I took the monorail to KL Sentral, walked to the museum and stayed there for a hour and a half or so, then walked back to my hotel via the Lake Gardens (adjacent).
