Owner description: Central Market began life as a wet market in 1888, built by Yap Ah Loy, the city’s Chinese Kapitan. It served as a prominent landmark in colonial and modern-day Kuala Lumpur. When the wet market was relocated in the 1980s, the Malaysian Heritage Society successfully petitioned against the demolition of the building. Now, Central Market Kuala Lumpur is an iconic attraction and a delightful destination for tourists, shoppers and art lovers.

“Such a good bargain”
Reviewed August 26, 2014

Dont need to go around to buy souvenirs cause you can find all in one place: Central Market. This is so good. The stores are divided into places, like India ones, Clothes one,... The sellers are so nice and you can make a deal here. Dont accept the first price. Try to bargain it.
On the second floor, you can find the food court with different kinds of food from different countries.
I tried Thai food and it's good.

“A very touristic place”
Reviewed August 23, 2014 via mobile

I have travelled a lot in South East Asia and markets are one of my preferred stops but I was very disappointed by the central market in Kuala Lumpur - it is definitely a place built for tourists with "handycrafts"(overpriced) from all over Asia. Nothing to do with the street market in Bangkok and nothing special to see. If you are looking for copies, you could certainly find a pair if Rayban at very cheap price. But nothing more than that so, if this is not your first market in Asia, think twice before going.

“A must-visit place”
Reviewed August 22, 2014

Great place to go for souvenir shopping. A warning though almost every shop sells the same goods at different prices; so don't be too hasty.

Second floor food court have a wide variety of choices. I recommend the Ayam Penyet stall.

And oh, try to go for the fish spa. 10 ringgit for 15 mins.

“good market for local products”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

really enjoyed this market! fun and as it is inside, its air conditioned.....nice food court on the second level - make sure you order the ice-floss, yum!! we got lots of local bargains as this market specialises in traditional souvenirs...there is lots of choice and lots of small stalls everywhere. we did try to bargain and most stall holders are OK with this but don't expect to get too much discount. a must do is the fish foot massage!! a unique and extremely different experience and cheap at the price!! Chinatown is a 5 min walk so can easily do both in one day....just make sure you try to get to Chinatown after 4.00 pm as that's when most of the stalls are there.

“Busy with a good vibe”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

We found the Central Market in KL pretty enjoyable and for us certainly better than Bukit Bintang. The multitude of shops house some very stylish and colourful clothing, knick knacks and souvenirs by the truckload if you need to buy that kind of thing. Handicrafts and arts from different cultures are plentiful. Thankfully it's enclosed and the air con is pretty effective, there is a food mall onsite. Had a couple of iced coffees at "Old Town", (store name), which were truly delicious and pretty cheap. Usual drill, if you like something, haggle a little, they are tourist prices to start off anyway. The whole area was very busy but had a good positive feel, happily it's also walking distance to Petaling St and China Town, more places to spend your money.
