We found this on Agoda and got a colonial suite for a great price - I would recommend a last minute booking as the hotel has only recently opened and is very unlikely to be at full capacity - we felt like the only guests at times.

The refurbishment is very well done and it feels very different to the glass 'n' steel skyscraper hotels in KL.

The good things (there are lots of these):

1. Location is 5 mins in a cab from KL Sentral Station
2. The hotel is new (albeit one with an old and interesting history) and so the rooms are spotless
3. They have an orchid room - it's beautiful
4. The cocktails are superb - they take a while to be made but are worth it (The Straits Sling - a precursor to the Singapore Sling is excellent)
5. Nice evening cabaret with band - again with a family historical connection to the hotel's hey day
6. Free shuttle to drive you anywhere in KL (this was the best feature and I think you need to be in a suite to get this). The driver was a great chap who always found us even in the busiest of locations.
7. The pool in front of the spa is great - we were the only people in it and it was one of those rare cloud-free sunny KL days.
8. Nice colonial touches - doormen in tropical fatigues etc.

The negative:

1. You are assigned a butler but this was fairly chaotic and we never knew who was doing what and why
2. The concierge sent us to a restaurant that was closed on Sundays - on a Sunday. Even after me explaining she should ring first to check they were open.
3. Breakfast is only so-so - the pastries weren't good for example
4. Whilst the staff are well meaning and endlessly friendly, we felt we were being stalked half the time as there were so few guests and didn't or couldn't execute a 5* service model - yet. Better training and key positions need more experienced staff.
5. The black floors in the room stain your feet
6. No business centre - getting admin done was a palava

This hotel wil get busier - and it deserves to busier. If you can cope with the inconsistencies in service you will enjoy staying here. It's different to other hotels in KL and would stay here again.

1.We booked a table for 9 pax on Colonial Cafe a day in advance and on the on day of event almost 2 hours before the time we supposed to be there, I received a call from hotel to inform me that they are not able to fit 9 pax at 1 table. I was wondering why nobody informed me when I made the reservation and what is the point of going for dinner in such small group and yet need to split the group in to 2. furthermore. I had not enough time to make another reservation elsewhere. when we got there, we were surprise that what is so difficult with joining 2 tables and let the group to sit together.
2. Food was very expensive though is a fine dining but the food taste and presentation was very normal and nothing special.
3.while the waiter was serving us the food, he did a mistake and serve the drink to wrong person (which is normal in restaurant). meanwhile a lady manager which I found out is the guest relation manager, was giving a dirty look to the staff due to his mistake. she must know, she was giving that look to entire group not only the staff and acting like that will put the staff under more stress and pressure.
4.the restaurant ambience was very classic and nice

We went there for high tea and the decor and ambience is lovely. Most impressive is the service staff. They are all so friendly, patient and polite. They really made our day. On our request, we were shown the different types of rooms available by the very calm, friendly staff Yusof. He is friendly, informative, readily answered all our queries. On request they also helped us get a taxi. Ruth even came out with us to the entrance to ensure we get the taxi. This hotel is just opposite the old railway station.

When I heard of the YTL Corporation taking over the refurbishment of the old Majestic Hotel, I was very pleased for the old gal! It could not have been given to a better developer to restore it to it's former glory-YTL being known for it's many posh resorts, like the Pangkor Laut Resort as well as the Tanjong Jara Resort, among the few in its impressive portfolio.
Stepping into the 'new' Majestic is like stepping back into a time when the world was innocent again- stepping out of the war years, where hope and renewal were the vocabulary of the day.
It is nothing short of transformational. The colonial look, which is the hallmark of the old Majestic has been fully restored and it looks grand. High ceilings, cornices and large french windows and a fabulously new crystal chandelier welcome guests, diners as well as those who patronized this iconic piece of architecture of days gone by. Close your eyes and you'd imagine vintage Rolls Royces or Studebakers sweeping into the driveway to unload their 'maams' and 'sirs' at the Garnd Entrance. Or you could almost hear the riveting sounds of a Lawrance Welk-like orchestra pumping out the latest dance tunes of an era gone by. And gentlemen in their white tuxedos and in their evening gowns floating across the dance floor. Definitely, the 'new' Majestic has all the trappings of it's former self and while I am sure thatin it's heyday it was the haunt of the rich and famous, it's reincarnation is no less exclusive. Granted, you don't want society's 'riff-raffs' scurrying along their glossy, polished marbled floors, but a Rm75++ hainanese chicken rice is taking inflation to a new level, what! This is 'street' food we are talking about here, my dear fellow! It's not about the affordability, no. I can most certainly afford to pay but it would be like choking on a chicken bone (or doesn't hainanese chicken consist just of breast meat?).
The Contango, however, allow for some of us who do not live life quoting and adorning designer couture, the opportunity to dine like a Gatsby albeit at Rm88++. While that is not 'bad' a price to pay for the experience, I must say that the fare on offer is somewhat lesser in quantity and quality compared to a certain hotel down in Jalan Sultan Ismail ( it has a 'Lemon' to its name). Maybe, the new gal is finding her feet, after all it had been a long hibernation! But whatever it is I am confident that it will right itself, and soon. Lastly, the Orchid room, while gloriously pretty is overwhelmingly infused with the odor of pesticide. I hope they can remedy that as it is a beautiful room to have an afternoon tea and cucumber sandwich in. And do indulge oneself in the lounge. The Solianos are a wonderful quartet and their music just simply take you way back to a glorious era. But do sip the coffees and teas slowly- they are Gatsby-like pricing! Despite all and everything, I loved it.

Had a great buffet dinner here. The ambience and atmosphere was very good. Not crowded and the tables were spaced a good distance apart. The hotel is also very nicely decorated and impressive.

Nice selection of food which was also tasty. However, the roast was hidden behind the counter and you had to ask for it! Only discovered they had roast chicken, lamb and beef when I asked otherwise I would not have known. Would be better if they just displayed the roast or at least have some labels indicating that the roast was available.

The Shangri La Hotel buffet is still better but is also more pricey.

Thought the valet parking at RM30 is a bit pricey.

The hotel is very beautiful, especially for me who had been there so often before the renovation/reburbishment. Trust me the moment you step into the Majestic Hotel you will be awed by her sheer beauty, grandeur and her splendour, old charm, excellent services and the food is good though abit pricey. RM130- for a chicken chop or RM65- for Hainam Mee. The buffet dinner at the Contango was good at RM88- ++. The orchid room and the other rooms are beautifully and tastefully interior designed & decorard. Parking is considered cheap RM10- for a token which has to be requested from the counter on the 1st floor. Remember your car park token before you leave the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the old wing is more noisy as it is facing the road, but they have an old charm that is mos...

Since the hotel is newly launch on 8th Dec 2012 therefore there is no list under restaurants. Actually I would like to share my experience with public on a excellent Hi-Tea that my company organize at Colonial Restaurant.

If you are looking for high-end, sophisticated, English style Hi-Tea then you should be going to Colonial Restaurant. The ambience that offered in the restaurant was excellent. We feel exclusive. The waiter and waitress were very polite, server us well and it was a top notch service.

The hi-tea offered was a combination of savoury, sandwiches and desserts. It has a mixture of Malaysian and Western. The various of tea flavour being offered was excellent. They have from English Tea to Chinese Tea and a lot of combination as well.

I truly recommend to everyone if they have special occasion, bringing someone special, company's hi tea event. They offer a great luxury ambience which comfort you and excellent service.
