Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
Ranked #3 of 348 Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 22, 2013

A stone's throw away from the twin peaks of KL's skyline one could not ask for a more central hotel. The Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur located in the heart of the Golden Triangle, is sandwiched between the KL Twin Towers and the Convention Centre with the temptations of Suria KLCC Mall and Pavilion Mall just minutes away.

Upon check in at this glass tower however, we were not offered for our luggage to be carried to our room nor was there a staff of the hotel to usher there. Being a Club floor guest one would think this was a basic service that could be offered. When we found our room, we discovered of the two keys presented to us, only one could work.

From our Grand Suite though, we had great vistas of the KL skyline. The spacious suite room was well equipped with all the amenities one could desire. The bathroom was sprawling with a huge tub overlooking the musical fountains that reflected the Twin Towers. I must point out the powder room's flush was not working properly and many times housekeeping did not freshen it up. The in house toiletries from couture spa June Jacobs were a nice touch too.

As for the Grand Club, it had a decent selection for breakfast and evening canapes and cocktails. Staff could have been more attentive to detail with the exception of Ms Fara and Mr Didi who were exceptionally friendly and interacted with the guests and tried to make them feel right at home. They valued our feedback and went above and beyond to accommodate our requests.

For a greater selection of Western and Asian delicacies I would recommend THIRTY8 for breakfast, which the Club floor guests can enjoy too.

The reception of the fitness centre was often left unattended leaving guests on a process of self discovery. I must say the gym was well equipped though. The lockers were secured with a pin code but many a time it was an obstacle to find one that would lock. The jacuzzi and sauna was great but it was unfortunate the steam room was not working the entire week we were there. The swimming pool offered great relief for the warm weather. Staff were on standby with towels, drinking water and on occasion a mocktail to quench your thirst.

Wifi connectivity was excellent and automatically connected every time we entered the property.

The lifts were rather cumbersome, as from the carpark to our room we had to embark on three different lifts. The lobby is on the 39th floor and we would have to take another lift to go down to our room.

Nevertheless, our stay was a pleasant experience and I would recommend it given the centrality and the value for money.

Stayed at a Grand Suite, view was stunning, the suite is huge and very nice. Service at the Grand Club was very good although choice of of breakfast offer could be extended. They have a huge breakfast selection on the 38th floor though. One of the lounge managers Ms. Fara provides extremely good service to make you feel home away from home. The pool area is very nice. Unluckily steam bath was closed for some repair works, spa could be maintained slightly better. Views from the restaurants and rooms are stunning. It is conveniently located between KLCC and Pavillion. A bit annoying is the reception at the 29th floor as you always need to go up to validate parking etc. Otherwise to the rooms you may take a shortcut via the pool to get down.

Room Tip: High floor with view towards Petronas Towers

I don't know if this will count as a review as I made a booking for a birthday dinner and walked out before ordering. Hated the whole experience... starting with the maze they have created to get around the hotel and lack of signage. BTW, the lobby is on level 38 but the restaurant is one floor down. 3 lifts to get there from the car park and another couple wandering around just as lost so it wasn't just me.
From a distance, the restaurant looks very nice. But it was a worry when the front of house was recommending the buffet. Obviously not fine dining. Our table was actually in the bar area and furthest away from the windows. Large marble table like in a brassarie. The menu was disappointing ('Stir Fried Chicken with ginger - MYR 55'; Australian Wagu Steak MYR 400) and a long time passed before any staff came near us. So we left and went to NeroVivo...

Room Tip: Not fine dining

Dear Nic_Weston

We are sorry to hear that our restaurant did not meet your expectations for this special occasion. As an addition for this festive time of year, we do offer a buffet in THIRTY8 along with the a la carte menu, which was probably what the host was highlighting to you upon arrival. The table you received in the bar area has the best view of the Twin Tower, but we understand you have a preference for a standalone table rather than a booth. If you return to our restaurant in the future, we will make note of this preference and accommodate you accordingly.

We also appreciate the feedback about our signage leading from the parking garage to the restaurant upstairs. We are currently working with the team to make this more seamless for our guests.

We hope you will give us another opportunity to show you the quality of service and food that we intend to provide to all of our guests.

New hotel with spacious bedroom, superb bathroom with separate wardrobe and full amenities..

The breakfast is excellent, with wide range of choice from eastern to western. Service is great, check in and check out with hastle free.

The only unconvinient part is the lift as we have to change lift everytime we want to go to the ground.

Stayed in GH for 2 nights during a business trip - everything was fantastic!! The breakfast spread is somewhere different from other hotels, the room is spacious and have separate baths, toilets, changing room, etc. I will even recommend couples to stay here as there's a romantic touch to the room.

I guess the only inconvenience is the need to take a lift up to 38th floor (hotel lobby floor) from my room (32nd floor), change a lift in order to travel down to ground floor.

Great business hotel with all the usual amenities. Lovely pool area to deal with the humidity, adequate gym, easy access to convention centre. Rooms renovated, spacious, contemporary with a fantastic shower. Had a great view of the Petronas tower with its twinkling musical fountains dancing to a silent beat 24 floors up. But the highlight, breakfast....an incredible collection of western and eastern cuisine and everything in between, an early morning cullinary delight
