A stone's throw away from the twin peaks of KL's skyline one could not ask for a more central hotel. The Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur located in the heart of the Golden Triangle, is sandwiched between the KL Twin Towers and the Convention Centre with the temptations of Suria KLCC Mall and Pavilion Mall just minutes away.
Upon check in at this glass tower however, we were not offered for our luggage to be carried to our room nor was there a staff of the hotel to usher there. Being a Club floor guest one would think this was a basic service that could be offered. When we found our room, we discovered of the two keys presented to us, only one could work.
From our Grand Suite though, we had great vistas of the KL skyline. The spacious suite room was well equipped with all the amenities one could desire. The bathroom was sprawling with a huge tub overlooking the musical fountains that reflected the Twin Towers. I must point out the powder room's flush was not working properly and many times housekeeping did not freshen it up. The in house toiletries from couture spa June Jacobs were a nice touch too.
As for the Grand Club, it had a decent selection for breakfast and evening canapes and cocktails. Staff could have been more attentive to detail with the exception of Ms Fara and Mr Didi who were exceptionally friendly and interacted with the guests and tried to make them feel right at home. They valued our feedback and went above and beyond to accommodate our requests.
For a greater selection of Western and Asian delicacies I would recommend THIRTY8 for breakfast, which the Club floor guests can enjoy too.
The reception of the fitness centre was often left unattended leaving guests on a process of self discovery. I must say the gym was well equipped though. The lockers were secured with a pin code but many a time it was an obstacle to find one that would lock. The jacuzzi and sauna was great but it was unfortunate the steam room was not working the entire week we were there. The swimming pool offered great relief for the warm weather. Staff were on standby with towels, drinking water and on occasion a mocktail to quench your thirst.
Wifi connectivity was excellent and automatically connected every time we entered the property.
The lifts were rather cumbersome, as from the carpark to our room we had to embark on three different lifts. The lobby is on the 39th floor and we would have to take another lift to go down to our room.
Nevertheless, our stay was a pleasant experience and I would recommend it given the centrality and the value for money.
