Ive frequent kuala lumpur for a short getaway as its just across the causeway and that will cut short my travelling time..and ive always tried to stay at luxury hotels to make my stay worth. ive stayed at a few 5 star hotel in kuala lumpur but i dun have the interest in writing a review for that particular hotels as it was just so-so..but after just one night at grand hyatt kl ive decided that i must write a review for this hotel.
i travelled in the period of chinese new year so u can expect a lot of people to be staying and a chaotic scene at the check in or so but i was surprise that its quite empty..maybe because its new or coz people read bout the bad reviews of the customer service, the construction noise of the hotel as its still incomplete so they decided to play safe and stay in another hotel...
the review im giving is on my stay as a normal guest(meaning my room is the cheapest) and that the hotel is not that crowded and the hotel is completed with construction.
i arrived at the hotel around 8am and since the check in time is around 2pm, ive requested beforehand to check in early(which would normally be around 12noon). so i tot maybe i just leave my luggage at the hotel and go search for breakfast and at 12 noon hopefully the room would be vacant and ready for me to check in...but to my surprise the front desk person took the initiative without me asking and check if there is any room ready to check me in early at 8am...ive never check in a hotel this early coz usually they would confirm ask me to wait till 12 noon for the earliest check in even if there is room available...thats seems a good start..
anywaes check in lobby is on the 39th floor the lift at the ground floor only take u to the check in lobby..so get ready for ur ears to be blocked every single time u take the lift but when u reach the lobby..everything seems to be worth it as the view is amazing especially at night with the twin towers and petronas tower clearly visible.
anywaes check in was fast too..maybe coz theres not much people and its 8am..who check in at 8am...
as i mention earlier, i stayed at the cheapest room...but even so its enuf to make my jaw open and i had to walk around with my mouth wide open as i circled around my room to inspect everything.
im very fussy bout toilets everywhere i stay..so the first thing i check is the toilet.they had a seperate room for showering and doing ur business..the good thing is u dun have to wait for the toilet if someone is showering and u have to do ure urgent business but the bad thing is theres no privacy as when theres someone showering, u could literally see them before u enter the toilet for doing business. there are two doors to seperate the bedroom from the toilet, walk in wardrobe and shower place but i dun see it serving any purpose. As the bedroom and the shower room is seperated by just a glass panel, they have this cool feature with when u turn on the switch, it will automatically fog the glass for privacy purpose, but the switch seems to be in and upside down connection(doesnt really makes a diff tho) there is a lot of switches to the lights so it very confusing of which switch is for which light. bathtub was very small..and for a person of height 167, if i lie down flat, the bathtub dun even have space for my leg. there goes my relaxing in the bathtub. for the shower area wise, you have two options to either have a normal shower with water coming from the normal shower head or shower like ure at the waterfall with water coming from the ceiling.
just outside the room ceiling, theres a speaker for the tv for the purpose of hearing the sound of the tv while watching it when u either shower or in the bath tub...but then again..when u even sit at the buth tub, u cant even see the tv as the bed frame cover ur view thru the glass seperator and if ure showering especially with warm water, u could only watch tv for like 5 mins as after that the glass seperator would fog by the vapour of warm water..so actually its really pointlss and dissappointing that i cant watch tv while trying to squeeze my body in the bath tub.
bed was hard but im not that fussy bout beds..so if ure the type of person who can only sleep with king koils or soft bed, then u better drag ur mattress to the hotel. pillow was too soft so i had difficulty in sleeping as my head would sink in at that would be very uncomfortable.
tv was very big i think around 42" or so and u can rotate the tv 90degrees so u can view the tv on ur bed or on the sofa. well as usual the sofa is hard..i think everywhere in the hotel sofa is hard(of course ive tried to sit on it).
ive read reviews that their room service is bad and would take a long time and several request to get something..so i tried and ask for a bucket of ice...not even a minute pass and the ice is in my hands...but then again maybe theres not much people requesting for things..(remember the fridge do not have freezer compartment so requesting for ice is the only option.)
room cleaning service is twice a day which made me very surprise coz all the hotels i stayed before only cleaned once per day.
there are two entrance to the hotel. if u go out of the front entrance, u can see a lot of other hotels and buildings.
if u go out of the side entrance, u just walk for 5 sec and ull reach the entrance of klcc convention entrance and to the left of u would be the air-condition bridge to the golden triangle area(pavillion shopping mall) which would take around 10 mins to get there.
if u decide to go to klcc, then just go in the klcc convention and theres an escalator going down to lead u to a tunnel straight to klcc. so its very accessible.
the bad thing is, if ure the type to go for late night movies, late night supper or drinking, the bridge and tunnel closes quite early around 11pm. so if u go beyond that timing, then ull have to either take a cab which some will try to quote ridiculous prices or u could try to keep a look out for metered cab, or u could take a long big round walk back to the hotel which i find it quite dangerous.
i manage to only try their breakfast as it comes in a package with my room.
food selection is not that much but quality wise is much better than some of the the luxury hotels breakfast. The service is really amazing as everywhere u walk all u see are smiles and bright faces..that really make a good start to the day, even the chef are friendly and cheerful. one food to lookout is the poached egg on sourdough bread..a must have..heeee
well wat can i say...its very clean. for a newly opened hotel the cleaniness should be top notch right..?
so guess u have to wait around a few years to see if the hotel is well maintained or not..
service is really excellence. they are constantly greeting and smiling at u..even when u turn around for a sec and turn back to look at them they would still smile at u and have this look of giving u their attention should u ask for help.
there is a day when i ask one of them for help to take photos of me and the twin tower background, the person even kneel down to get a very good photo of the whole twin tower.
sry that i didnt take an effort to get their names, but if all the staff is that good then it doesnt really matter.
well theres no free wifi and the charge of wifi is very expensive..if im not wrong its rm68 per 24 hrs. but that doesnt really bother me coz u could just get their prepaid card for rm30 with rm5 value and just top it up if the value gets low as u can use unlimited internet for rm5 per day.
well the hotel maybe quite pricey, but from the 1st review till now ive read, they really improved a lot and there seems to be more and more good reviews bout this hotel. even tho this hotel is pricey, with excellent service and all, its worth the money compared to other hotel which cost more but having so-so service and experience. so for those who have not stayed here as they read bad reviews bout this hotel, u got to experience to judge it for urself. and for those who had gone with bad experience, give it another go and see the improvement they made as grand hyatt is globally recognized for being an excellent hotel, they really have lived up to their standard.
overall, there might be some small issues for improvement, but satisfaction wise is five star and i would recommend and stay again at this hotel (even tho i always like to hop to different luxury hotels). hopefully the standard stays the same or improve for the better..
anywaes thanks to all the staff that makes me feel special and happy on my 4 days stay at this hotel.
