Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Ranked #54 of 353 Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

I stayed at the hotel in Oct and found it to be a typical business hotel and the personal touch missing. Although i had already intimated requirement of 2 xtra beds in my suit, it was not done n took them about 3 hrs to do it. Stark contrast with YMCA house in Singapore where my room with xtra beds were ready on arrival. A word of caution...You may have heard about purse snatching in and around the klcc area due to high tourist density. Well...we got to experience it fr real when whilst walkjng back towards the hotel from Surya mall KLCC a lone motorcyclist snatched my mothers handbag n madeoff. luckely she let go n was not injured. Later on i realised that it was partially my mistake walking on a lonely stretch late night n not taking basic precaution like keeping lookout fr motor cyclists and ensuring ladies walk on far end of footpath well away from reach of these motorcycle thugs. lodged a complaint with the nearby tourist police where i came to know that this was a regular occurance in the area. My issue with the hotel management is that since many first timers like me come to stay here, the least they can do is to inform of such possibilities by notice boards or pamplets or verbally on checking in. had i been informed.... probably things could have been different. But as i said earlier its a business hotel n they dont really care that way....i wont recommend it fr tourists and would probably stick to a property in bukit bintang area close to shopping zone

In the month of October 2012, we spent two times at Corus Hotel, once in the executive room and once in the standard room. Well, the executive room was a little bit spacious, nothing extraordinary, plain and simple. Only advantage is getting the benefits of the executive lounge. We had breakfast at executive lounge where only a few people came for breakfast and it was much more relaxing. The number of food items though was hand counted but not bad. We had dinner at the ground floor restaurant where a big delegation from an African country was enjoying the food. Live dances were going on in the bar. It was quite noisy but lively too. We saw a bunch of sandals and shoes in front of a room at the long narrow corridors. Probably the visitors to that room did not want to take sandals inside the room.
The hotel staff received us well. The services and cleanliness of the hotel was good but I find the room rate of a bit high with the current standard. Pool area looked really run down. It was strange that one hotel booking company quoted 600 Singapore dollars for that kind of hotel just because the hotel was almost fully booked when we checked in for the second time. After direct negotiation with the hotel, we got it for USD 180. With very limited TV Channels, there was nothing to do at night.
There was free internet connection in the executive floor but not in the standard rooms. One advantage of the hotel was the luxurious coach to Singapore-Malaysia leave from this hotel. So, it was just easy for us to step in to the hotel immediately getting down from the bus. It saved us from travelling again by taxi to other hotels. The other big advantage was the K Avenue was close by and we could walk there to take the train. During rush hours, the journey by LRT was the best to avoid the delays on the road.
The views from the rooms were nice. The Petronas twin towers, Suria KLCC and other tall buildings were visible. Overall, it was useful to stay in this hotel considering the facilities surrounding it.

Room Tip: Non-smoking floors are definitely better

Stayed here with my partner for 5 nights.
This was our first time in Malaysia and thought that this hotel was in the perfect location. Its close to the huge shops and other small attractions.
Pool was nice, service was good and food was very good.
We pretty much ordered room service every night. Beer was cold, food was always nice.
Morning feed was always good and their dinner special is nice.
Will stay again

I've stayed in Corus Hotel on numerous occasions in the past mainly because of its proximity to our KL office. If you don't mind getting inconsistent service, I suppose the hotel is cheap considering its location. What do I mean by inconsistent service? Well, mostly housekeeping concerns. There are times that they don't completely replenish toiletries and other supplies. There was a time that I requested for slippers and they were charging RM10 for it.

The rooms are also old and poorly maintained. There are some rooms where the showers are not working properly. If you plan on staying here, make sure you either request for:
- non-smoking room
- cabana (slightly higher than the standard room but I think it's worth to pay the extra $)

Like many hotels, there is good, bad and really bad.

GOOD
Good location near KLCC
Big room (but could use a bit of renovation)
Reasonable price

BAD
Meager selection of TV channels

Laundry, specified on the form "folded" and shirts came back on hangers.

Saga of the room service tray. On Friday night had room service dinner. When I left the hotel on Saturday morning the tray was in the room and someone (I guess the chambermaid) took it out to the hallway and put it on the floor just outside my room, in full view of the lifts and passersby. It was sitting there on Saturday afternoon when I returned to the hotel. During the afternoon I had two visits from the guy from the laundry , and I decided not to say anything, curious how long the tray would remain sitting there. I went out to dinner on Saturday night and when I returned the bed had been turned down but the tray was still sitting outside the room. It was still there on Sunday morning (obviously in full view of the guy who delivers the morning paper and leaves it on the outside of the door), and still there when I returned from breakfast. Still there when I definitively left the room mid morning to check out. For all I know it is still there, a silent sentinel that is an icon to sloppy attention to details.

REALLY BAD
Tired, so decided to eat at the coffee shop on Friday night. Ordered steamed chicken rice. It arrived and it was roasted chicken rice, not the biggest problem but I pointed out the error and the captain happily took it away and returned a few minutes later with steamed chicken rice. The chicken was tender, in fact too tender - it was half cooked and red inside. I pointed out that this is more than an error, it's a health hazard. He was very apologetic and offered to send a new portion to my room (see saga of the tray above). Like the Chinese curse, be careful what you wish for. The new serving of chicken was tough and dry, as if it had been cooked in a microwave.

We stayed in this hotel for one night. They even upgraded our room to honeymoon suite for free. Walking distance to the twin tower. Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast buffet could be improved more as the choices are too plain.

This hotel is in a great central location, very close to petronas towers, which was very handy for New Years Eve! We stayed in deluxe room with direct pool access with a honeymoon deal. Room was adequate size for 2 people, bed was large and comfortable and the private balcony and direct pool access was fantastic. Bathroom was ok, a little tired looking and a bit cramped. We had a small plumbing leak on the last night, nothing that made us move, seeing we were checking at the next morning, we reported it at check out with no problems. Buffet breakfast had a wide selection foods, although they did struggle at times to keep food up with the big crowd. Staff were overall pleasant and helpful. Used the spa services, wonderful massage and nice staff.
