Capitol Hotel
Ranked #59 of 350 Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Reviewed March 4, 2012

This is the 2nd time we've stayed at the Capitol, the last time was in November 2009, and we can tell that the hotel is 2 years older :) It's still all good, just not as pristine as it was 2 years ago. There was some evidence of carpets being refitted on the 11th floor in some rooms, so maybe the hotel is in the process of doing some refurbishment.

The first room we were offered was on the 6th floor, which transpires to be the smoking room. First we had to get clean cups for the inroom tea/coffee - the cups had been dishwashed but they definitely were not clean. And then the smell of smoke got to us, and we were moved to a room on the 11th Floor with a nice view of KLCC and the KL Tower :)

The thing that has really changed since 2 years ago is the breakfast. What was a poor excuse for a buffet breakfast in 2009 has been transformed to a full service western and asian buffet breakfast with a full selection of hot and cold dishes and with live chefs cooking eggs or Roti Chani. There's also some variation day to day. The only disappointment was the coffee - the stuff in the filter coffee jugs is pretty weak. They do have coffee machines that can make better coffee but you need to ask a staff member for that.

The hotel is still in the middle of the Bukit Bintang area, and its location really cannot be faulted.

Room Tip: Just ask for a room facing KLCC or the KL Tower.

A real test of a hotel is how they deal with any problems. We arrived very early so could not check-in until later in the day. However within ten minutes they found a room for us. The toilet flush was broken but this was fixed just five minutes after reporting. On our first night we were kept awake until 2am with VERY loud music from a nearby bar. We asked the next morning if we could have a quieter room as the music plays every night. The assistant manager dealt with us personally and I felt like they really cared. Thankfully they found us a room at the back of the Hotel on the same floor and we had a great quiet night sleep.

+ excellent location for shops, bars and general sightseeing
+ good selection for breakfast
+ fantastic service from staff
+ clean and tidy rooms

- rooms on the front are very noisy
- decor is a little basic if you are looking for something fancy

Room Tip: Ask for the rear of the Hotel!

This hotel is an excellent base to explore the city. It is quite standard, but was clean and the staff were helpful. Whilst being advised that the transport around the city was easy to use, we managed to visit most of the main attractions on foot. The Petronas Towers are about a 15 minute walk. Would recommend visiting Batu Caves, but keep your possessions (especially food or drink) close to you as the monkeys are very quick!!! I admit alot of reviews are correct in saying that there is quite a bit of rubbish lying around up there, which is a great shame, but doesn't take away from the large golden standing buddha that stands at the entrance.
Central Market is quite expensive and contains many stalls but all selling the same goods. If you fancy a bit of nightlife, take a stroll to Chankat Bukit Bantang for lots of bars and restaurants.

Capitol Hotel is located just opposite the back door of Sungei Wang Plaza, Low Yat Plaza and walking distance to other great malls such as Lot 10, Pavilion, Times Square and Fahrenheit 88.

Stayed in Capitol Deluxe Room which is rather spacious and comfortable. However, the sound insulation is poor. On weekends, there is a band playing at the corner of the street and they play till 1am. The loud noise of the band is disturbing.

One bad thing I encounted was that I asked for late check out on the eve of my day of check out. Check out is at 12pm. The hotel staff said that they will be charging for late check out. I managed to negotiate for 12.30pm check out, for free.

However at 11.45am, the front desk called to say they could not give me the late check out and I needed to check out at 12pm as the hotel was full. I mentioned that check out at 12.30pm was agreed upon and they should honour their agreement. The staff mentioned they understand about the agreement but the hotel is full.

I question this explanation. The hotel should know their room take-up rate way before the day the guest checks in, they should be able to tell if the hotel is full and turn away requests for late check out and instead of agreeing to provide late check out and then tell the guest there is no late check out as the hotel is full!

Room Tip: Choose rooms not facing the KL Twin Towers, they are much quieter as they are not facing traffic on...

Arrived too early for check in as our flight was early morning. Greeted by a very friendly lady on reception, who said she would do her best, but the room might not be available until 1 pm. She invited us into the bar, gave us a complimentary coffee each and asked what she could do to help on our first day in KL, brilliant first impression. As it turned out, they had our room ready 3 hours early even though the hotel was busy. Location is perfect, Bukit Bintang is a very tourist friendly area, shopping, eating, drinking, public transport is all on your doorstep. Our room was large and spotlessly clean, again very impreesed. We stayed on room only basis, a good decision as there are so many places to eat within a few minutes walk. We loved KL, and we loved the Capitol hotel, really good value and an amazing location.

This city hotel is in a perfect location for shopping and eating. It is right in the middle of a thousand shopping opportunities and Jalan Alor is only a couple of blocks away, offering Kuala Lumpur's best outdoors dining.

The rooms are tasteful, if a bit small, however given the city location this is to be expected.

The breakfast buffet has a wonderful range and is delicious.

Nice views of a very dynamic city.

Given the location it can be noisy at night, with loud bars and venues blaring music til around midnight. If you are an early and light sleeper, be warned.

Room Tip: Didn't stay in a corner room, but did have a look in one. More spacious and even better views...

I spent here a few days during october 2011 and really had a good time. The hotel is inj Bukit Bintag area but not on the main street. Rooms are spacious and wi-fi is not free but actually works well all over the hotel. Breakfast is nothing to die for but the room rates are convenient. I think this is the hotel I prefer in Kuala Lumpur if I think at price and quality and will definitly book again there if I go back in Kuala Lumpur.
