“In need of renovation!!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

Well, the good news first: the hotel is scheduled for the renovation soon. But for now I wouldn't recommend to stay there unless you get real price bargain... The location is great, next to monorail and shopping malls.

But the roams really are tired and there is no sign of improvement until fully renovated...

Hopefully also pool will be enlarged.

I stayed in this property few months ago, and guess what: the paper towels in the mensroom next to the swimming pool still were not managed!!!

Good breakfast and friendly staff try to make up for all the faults, but this is nothing comparable. And the bellboy at the door is still not yet trained to help bring up the guests suitcase the 3-4 (high) steps to the lobby upon arrival... Greeting is not enough, sorry....

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and had to pay for wifi each 24 hours of MYR29. Out of 7 days 3 of those days the internet was not working. They kindly gave us a router in our room which worked on and off for the entire duration of our stay. I was unable to log on almost every day and had to take my laptop down to reception to fix problem which they did but did not explain to me how to fix the problem myself. Annoying problem! Breakfast was adequate but the staff needs extensive training in customer service. Fresh fruit constantly ran out and on several occasions I had to bring it to the notice of dining room supervisor. Yoghurt fridge was also empty on several occasions again asking it to be replenished. Coffee machine broke down. Chef was not in attendance at egg preparation area on more than 1 occasion. More problems with food running out rather than quality. When paying a price for a breakfast you do and should expect fresh and ample quantities of various foods. We have stayed at the Istana on 3 other occasions and would highly recommend that hotel be considered before the melia. Location is a plus except noise from very busy road can be intrusive especially for light sleepers. Room is very tired and is way overdue for renovations. Carpet was stained. We used our own bath products as those that were supplied were way below an acceptable standard. They just did not foam up, especially shower gel. Towels were old and worn. They card entry system for rooms and lift was an absolute joke. We had both our cards reprogrammed no less than 8 times for the duration of our stay. Thinking we were constantly causing the cards to fail we asked other guests and found that many guests were experiencing same card problems. 12 times we have been to KL and this was our first and last stay at The Melia. Sorry guys, you just do not compare to other hotels.

I recently stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the central location to the monorail which gives you access to the rest of this beautiful city. The staff at the Melia were very helpful and friendly, but it got embarrassing for both the front desk staff and myself when I had to front up each day for them to provide the login and password on my notebook. I signed up for their free wi fi which applies to the foyer area but it still logged out. I note the comments from previous reviews about charging for wi fi being a standard practice, but not so in the rest of South East Asia in 3 star hotels wi fi, understanding that the Melia is 4 stars. Wifi access is an essential to almost traveller, and part of a hospitality service that should be treated the same as customer service and amenities, in today's modern world it should be treated as being equally important. If I went to a coffee shop and they
said I would have to pay a Wifi charge on top of my coffee price, I wonder how long that coffee shop would stay in business . Finally this hotel provides a sumptuous breakfast which kick starts your day with a wide range of foods for all tastes, you would be a fussy traveller not to find something to your tastes. As a final, the Piano player who plays at night in the foyer brings a degree of class and style to the evenings and plays with rythem and connection to his music.

Room Tip: Be aware on arrival of being told they only have twin singles available, make sure you request a que...

Dear philtaylor1958,

First of all, We would like to thank you for choosing us, for staying, and for trusting us at Melia Kuala Lumpur.

We are delighted to learn that you have enjoyed your stay with us and greatly appreciate your kind compliments on our colleagues, and our Buffet Breakfast. Your positive observation when shared with our colleagues would certainly motivate them further to fulfil our mission of completely delight and satisfy our guests.

With regards to any special request such as King bed, Non Smoking, etc; I am pleased to share that it will be subject on room availability.

We also have taken note of your comments on the provision of complimentary Wi-Fi service. Due to the high cost of quality bandwidth in Kuala Lumpur most hotels charge for Wi-Fi accordingly. We have recently completed a survey of the hotels in the city and 7 out of 8, charged for in-room internet access for regular room accommodation. Guests who choose to stay on our Club Floors do receive complimentary internet access. However, we will continue to review our pricing policy on a routine basis as part of our benchmarking analysis to ensure we are in keeping with the market situation.

Last but not least, Thank you once again for your kind patronage. Look forward to welcome you back in the future.

Arriving at the Melia a certain level of hotel is expected. I booked this hotel and prepaid not giving it a second thought, I should have because I would have checked out! The room was extremely dated and the whole floor had a very bad odor. On the positive side the bed was very comfortable. One of my biggest annoyances was the lack of wifi and when I Paid for 24 hours of service it was terrible we had two devices we wanted to use but that was impossible. We have been travelling for the last three months and this was the poorest wifi we have had and the only place we had to pay extra for it! For the amount being spent to stay at the Melia it just does not measure up!
