“HOSPITALITY AT ITS BEST”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel last July for three nights and now we are back again for five nights because our last stay was so relaxing and enjoyable. The last review is still current. We booked a Horizon Club room and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Horizon Club and its staff. We deliberately didn't tell them it was my birthday on check in day, but they knew and there was a cake and greeting in our room. We arrived early after an overnight flight and we were invited to have breakfast and we had early access to our room. This hotel understands hospitality from the moment you enter the foyer. The rooms are very comfortable, the TV/DVD is excellent, the amenities are good quality and the fresh fruit is enjoyable. Breakfast and refreshments in the Club Lounge are most enjoyable. We can't wait to come back again...well done!

Room Tip: The Horizon Club is excellent value...rooms and lounge

One of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They truly go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. I was not feeling well when we first arrived and the manager arranged to escort my next door to see a doctor. Mike escorted me and waited while I saw the doctor.
The room was really nice, Caen and the bed was super comfortable. The breakfast was amazing. They even have chocolate fountains. So much variety. The pool was Also very nice. The hotel is nicely located and you can walk everywhere. The Twin towers is a 5minute walk. The subway is just around the corner. This hotel deserves the #1 ranking on trip advisor. It was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. I highly recommend it. We can't wit to go back. A big thank you to Mike and all the staff for making us feel so welcomed.

We used to stay at the Traders Hotel but after reading the reviews here, we thought we would give it a try.
We stayed at the Horizon Club room for 5 days.
The hotel location is within walking distance to major shopping malls. The room is comfortable and the bathroom is spacious and spotless. Loved the L'occitane toiletries. Unfortunately we could hear the loud music from downstairs at night(we were staying on 23rd floor).
The morning breakfast buffet has a wide selection and the food that served at the Horizon club during the afternoon tea and cocktail were excellent. We also dine in at Zipangu, one of the hotel's restaurants. The seafood were really fresh and cooked to perfection.
However, we were charged for breakfast that were included in our stay and room service charge that we have no idea of. Be careful when checking your final bill during check out.
Overall, the service are excellent, great location but let down on the overpriced. Don't think we would come back here again.

On arrival we upgraded to the Horizon Club which was a real treat. We even had a 6 arm chandelier - never had that in a bedroom before. The room was quite large and had dressing table, writing/computer desk, armchair with footstool etc. Very comfortable, with a large flatscreen TV, the usual tea/coffee making with kettle and also a Nespresso machine with several pods of different coffees supplied and replenished daily. Beds very comfortable, lovely pillows. Tricky little nightlight by each bed that when pressed just lit the part of the carpet below your feet and at the same time lit a light under the bathroom handbasin - very convenient for nighttime visits!! The bathroom was well furnished with a separate bath and shower cubicle and lovely L'Occitane toiletries and nice big. soft bath towels. They really do think of everything, there was even a box of cables top use with your own electronic equipment and a box in a drawer with sellotape, scissors, little knife, paper clips etc. Every drawer and cupboard we opened seemed to contain a different surprise.

The Horizon Club upgrade included an excellent buffet breakfast with a "Don't know where to start" choice. We agree with TricoWorcestershire's review in appreciation of the eggs florentine but chose eggs benedict. Also on offer were 2 hour afternoon tea and 2 hour evening cocktails sessions, both with a buffet containing a great mouth-watering choice of finger-foods, both hot and cold. Our only very picky complaint of the whole Shangri Li experience was that although we did not FEEL we were being watched, as soon as one put down a fork or moved an empty plate someone appeared immediately - just a little over the top we thought.

The public rooms were very impressive, with good seating arrangements etc. The grounds had two separate fountain areas, with fish in the ponds, and even a maze. The swimming pool area was lovely, with plenty of beds, mattresses and large towels. On an afternoon we were presented with iced water and little ice cream cones, a very nice touch.

It is relatively easy to get around KL. If you don't have a car (horrific traffic - I wouldn't dream of driving a car in central KL - feel ill to think about it!) the monorail can take you to the shopping malls, Chinatown, Petronas Towers, KL Tower (which is just about at the back of the hotel) etc very easily and the hotel also runs a free shuttle several times a day which has a set run around the main malls and Petronas Towers etc. They do not bring you back but we had no trouble navigating and exploring the city by monorail and on foot. KL is a great city - the first time we visited we could not believe the size of the shopping malls and the amount of greenery in the centre.

The Shangri La is not cheap but well worth the cost and we will happily go there again the next time we are in Malaysia

Room Tip: Ask for a high room - great views. Horizon Club rooms are all on high floors

Stayed here for five nights at the end of January and could not fault the hotel at all.
The location is perfect if you want something central for sight seeing (our room had a great view of the Petronas Towers), but the hotel is well sound proofed so the traffic noise is not a problem.
We had paid for a Horizon room and it was well worth the money. Separate Horizon check in and out,was quick and efficient. The little extras eg free drinks and substantial nibbles every day, which come as part of the package all add up to making the stay even more enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, toiletries top quality, Nespresso coffee machine in addition to a kettle, both bath and separate shower etc etc. The Horizon lounge and dining room are quiet, the service excellent and the food was exquisite, do try the eggs florentine for breakfast.
Whilst we were there it was my husband's birthday and although we did not mention it , the manager of the Horizon Club had noticed his date of birth on his passport when we checked in. When we went in for breakfast he was wished Happy Birthday by the staff, a beautiful cake was put in our room and that evening during cocktail hour the staff sang Happy Birthday. So observant, thoughtful and typical of the high level of service.
Thoroughly recommend this hotel and if we went back to KL we would not consider staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: I would definitely upgrade to a Horizon room.

This place is pretty posh. Everything is done very professionally and with great service. Watching valet hear is like watching a car show. Lunch in the garden cafe is extremely expensive but really amazing. I don't mind paying more for really great food but 36 MYR ($12USD) for a can of coke is really quite ridiculous. So swing by a 7/11 and pick up some snacks before you eat or drink anything here. Breakfast is a must do ! Great Location and would stay here again.

We spent two nights in this great hotel whilst on route from Sydney to London. We could not fault the excellent service of all the staff who were extremely attentive and polite. The locality was excellent and within walking distance of the Petronus twin towers and shopping malls. The rooms were extremly well appointed and comfortable. We did not have an evening meal so cannot comment on the resturant but we did enjoy a superb breakfast with an amazing choice.
