“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

Booked an Horizon Club room through a deal with Expedia - had we paid full price we would not have been so impressed. Lovely hotel, bedroom a bit small with large furniture, our room had a nice view of one of the towers (side on view).

Prompt in room check-in, we were offered the option to upgrade to a suite for extra but declined.

Drinks and snacks in the Horizon lounge were very good (it was pretty busy in there each night), we had breakfast in the lounge the first morning but then opted to go to the Lemon Garden buffet restaurant on the ground floor which was excellent, lots of choices but could get a bit busy.

Hotel provides a free shuttle bus service to 4 of the main shopping malls which was much appreciated in the humid conditions - free bottled water provided en route.

A lovely classy hotel providing an oasis from the heat and pollution of KL but maybe a bit far from the main shopping areas.

Room Tip: If you can get a deal for the Horizon Club rooms they are worth it for the extra benefits in the Clu...

This was just glorious and we were sad to only be there for 2 nights as a stop over from our Australia tour. It is surreal to enter this huge entrance area and large reception desk area with plenty of staff to help. As it was just after new year they still had the christmas tree display made from lots of icing, it was outstanding.
We think we had a slightly upgraded room, as we had a room at the end with a large curved window, and the bed was turned down with a bookmarker provided every night. The desk had every stationery you could need and every plug socket for all nationality's. The kettle base was hidden away in a draw, and these details make the room smart and uncluttered. Our bathroom was vast (compared to many we have seen on the photos by other guests); huge toilet, large sink area, and the shower was brilliant and could easily fit a family of 6! In the morning they deliver a newspaper to your room which we didn't expect. The breakfast i think is more than what i would want to pay normally, however there is such a vast selection, and the temptation to just eat doughnuts was great but i resisted.
Reception were helpful in booking a cheap taxi to the airport early in the morning, and we were interested in going up the tower and they offered to send someone to queue to get tickets for us but that for us was too ridiculous.
When we initially arrived to the hotel we had come from the airport by coach then the monorail late at night, but it was tricky with our luggage as there was many stairs but some guys politely carried them for us and pointed us the direction of the hotel, which even though it is vastly tall, we struggled to locate and the path disappeared so we had to be careful not to get run over! The taxi back to the airport meant that we would not need to worry about that issue.
Round the corner from the hotel there is many familiar places to eat, and the shopping area under the towers is wonderful especially when you walk out the back and a large greenspace opens out and feels so peaceful amongst a rather hectic city.
Overall this hotel is class, but we don't have any other Shangri La to compare it to, but the time we had there was lovely and hassle-free.

Everything about this hotel was pretty excellent, at least 4-5 star , but the breakfast buffet was unbelievable. First day i did about 2 hours at it and still didn't make halfway. There was just about every type of breakfast for all the countries of the world, and you wouldn't believe what they have first thing in some of these crackpot countries. The japs, there eating raw fish first thing, the indians having spicy curry, the chinese, i dont know what some of the stuff they were eating, but so much choice. must have been 500 dishes. Brilliant start to a day. Rest of hotel pretty sweet all round, but pool area bit lame, but in a city hotel your lucky to get out i suppose.

Room Tip: Breakfast!!!!!!

Stayed there with the family back in Aug, and the experience was excellent. After staying in 3 different hotels in Malaysia, this was indisputably the best. Took a club horizon room and felt pampered in everything, from breakfast boufets to afternoon cocktails, thru the excellent service of the staff and the great location near Petronas. Might be more business and couples oriented but still the kids loved it, including the pool! Cant wait to go back

Room Tip: Afternoon Cocktails for Horizon Club!

We have stayed at many Shangri-la hotels in Asia. This was our first visit to Kuala Lumpur and based upon our previous stays at other Shangs, we did not hesitate in booking this one.

I am sorry to say this branch is not as good as all the others we have stayed.

They missed an event and request in our reservation completely.

It seems like evey man and his dog has the Horizon Club included in their booking. The club room was very large and very very crowded and busy. Many business people use the lounge and it appeared to us that the guests wearing suits were looked after a little better than the non-suit wearing guests. One evening we had to go and find someone to order a drink. It certainly didn't have the feel of exclusivity, peace and quiet that we have experienced at other Horizon Club lounges.

For salon treatments, they upsell every step of the way and before you know it you'll have paid a small fortune for what was originally a very straightforward manicure and pedicure.

Reasonable location.

Airport transfers were professional and efficient - Thanks Mr KFC!

Dined at the Lemon Tree Restaurant with the buffet dinner - enormous range of quality food and exceptional value. Room service was also very good and prompt.

If we return to Kuala Lumpur, I think we would stay at some other top end hotels which are located closer to the KLCC and Pavillion shopping malls.

Stayed for 2 nights for business. The last time I stayed was in 2007 and this hotel is still as excellent as it was then. They also remembered me which is a feat considering it was 5 years ago! So pluses for exceptional service!

Rooms have been recently updated and all feel more modern and luxurious.

Definitely recommend room service for kicking back in comfort with good food.

For location - you can't beat this: 10 minute walk to KLCC/Petronas Twin Towers and in the other direction to shopping haven Bukit Bintang.

Everything was perfect. The rooms were of excellent standard, excellent food/drink. Certainly luxurious and great value for money. I'd highly recommend this hotel.

The leisure facilities were superb, and everything was immaculately clean.
