The Shangri-la is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly, always trying to please. The breakfast is out of this world with everything from Asian, Indian to western breakfast and everything in between. Our room was lovely with great views of Petronas Towers. It was my birthday and they were lovely enough to leave the most beautiful tasting cake in our room whilst we were out. The bathroom and room were big enough for us and bigger than some hotels we’ve stayed at in other Asian cities.
We ate late one night in the lounge where they had a jazz band playing. Was lovely and the food was very good. I thought the food and drink by Australian standards was not that expensive but by local standards would probably be quite expensive.
The pool was really nice but in the afternoon there is only a small patch that gets sunlight and it’s very hard to get a lounger in the sunny spot. We used the newly renovated gym everyday. The equipment is of a high standard and facilities are very good. I also had a massage and Putu the massage therapist was really good and checked on me every few minutes to make sure I was OK as I think she thought I had passed out I was so in the moment. LOL.
I used the business centre to check in our flights and it was free of charge. I was brought a cup of tea whilst I was working on the internet which I thought was a really nice geture.
We had a late flight and the hotel allowed us to use the facilities after we checked out including being able to shower and get changed in the gym facilities.
The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to Bukit Bintang (main shopping area) or you can catch the monorail from Bukit Nanas station, which is 3-5 mins away. We caught the monorail to markets in Chinatown which was very efficient. It is only about 15 minute walk to Petronas Towers and about 20 mins to Traders Hotel if you are going to the Skybar. I think the hotel is very central.
There is a Hard Rock café just across the road to the left if you want a western type meal. The staff were really friendly and food not bad. It was very busy in the evenings.
One warning about the Taxi’s which I think has been mentioned previously. We caught an Airport Limo Taxi from the airport, they are black cars with very little markings on them, it cost us RM84. When we wanted to get a taxi back to the airport the taxi stand in a driveway of the hotel wanted to charge us about RM140 in a metered taxi. We asked the concierge to book us the Airport Limo Taxi which cost us RM64 on the return trip. The concierge wasn’t really happy about it but did ring for us. I think there are cheaper taxi’s but this one was really nice, you had to book it 6 hours prior to pick up.
All up though would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
