“Top hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2011

The Shangri-la is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly, always trying to please. The breakfast is out of this world with everything from Asian, Indian to western breakfast and everything in between. Our room was lovely with great views of Petronas Towers. It was my birthday and they were lovely enough to leave the most beautiful tasting cake in our room whilst we were out. The bathroom and room were big enough for us and bigger than some hotels we’ve stayed at in other Asian cities.

We ate late one night in the lounge where they had a jazz band playing. Was lovely and the food was very good. I thought the food and drink by Australian standards was not that expensive but by local standards would probably be quite expensive.

The pool was really nice but in the afternoon there is only a small patch that gets sunlight and it’s very hard to get a lounger in the sunny spot. We used the newly renovated gym everyday. The equipment is of a high standard and facilities are very good. I also had a massage and Putu the massage therapist was really good and checked on me every few minutes to make sure I was OK as I think she thought I had passed out I was so in the moment. LOL.

I used the business centre to check in our flights and it was free of charge. I was brought a cup of tea whilst I was working on the internet which I thought was a really nice geture.

We had a late flight and the hotel allowed us to use the facilities after we checked out including being able to shower and get changed in the gym facilities.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to Bukit Bintang (main shopping area) or you can catch the monorail from Bukit Nanas station, which is 3-5 mins away. We caught the monorail to markets in Chinatown which was very efficient. It is only about 15 minute walk to Petronas Towers and about 20 mins to Traders Hotel if you are going to the Skybar. I think the hotel is very central.

There is a Hard Rock café just across the road to the left if you want a western type meal. The staff were really friendly and food not bad. It was very busy in the evenings.

One warning about the Taxi’s which I think has been mentioned previously. We caught an Airport Limo Taxi from the airport, they are black cars with very little markings on them, it cost us RM84. When we wanted to get a taxi back to the airport the taxi stand in a driveway of the hotel wanted to charge us about RM140 in a metered taxi. We asked the concierge to book us the Airport Limo Taxi which cost us RM64 on the return trip. The concierge wasn’t really happy about it but did ring for us. I think there are cheaper taxi’s but this one was really nice, you had to book it 6 hours prior to pick up.

All up though would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

The Hotel was excellent hotel, services , food, free internet but the only thing that they do not have WiFi in the room and they have only cable but WiFi available in the lobby.
The Breakfast was very good many cuisine and they put box to take away some pastry if u do not have time to take it so was awesome .
The size of room is big enough .
There is small restaurant for sandwiches with fresh bakery was very good price and fresh.
Very nearby the main malls and Petronas Tower , also there is many restaurant round the area like T.G Friday and Indian restaurant.
I would like to go back their again.

Room Tip: Delux room will be good

On entering the hotel you are warmly greeted by the fantastic staff, then when you get inside, you are hit by an awe inspiring arrangement of fresh flowers! The rooms are spacious, views are breath-taking, we could see the Petronas Towers, beds are very comfortable and staff are friendly and always willing to help! We had a minor problem which was quickly and swiftly resolved - the management, service, staff and food at the hotel sets a high benchmark, which other 5 star establishments are no where near. The gym is awesome, machines are new, cleaned with fresh towels and changing areas are fantastic. This hotel is worth staying at if you want to experience KL in its fullest. Right inbetween the KL Tower and Petronas Towers means you can walk to both - the monorail is a 2 minute walk from the hotel and everything is within touching distance!
If you are here on business or pleasure, this place is truly magnificant and we both really enjoyed our stay here!

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic

The moment you draw up outside the hotel it starts! Gracious welcome and easy check-in. Gorgeous reception area with stunning flowers and a galleried sweeping staircase. I asked for a view and was offered an upgrade at a price, which I declined, however I was given a corner room with a view of Petronus, side on, which was great. The rooms are quite small but were perfectly adequate for us. Well furnished, comfy bed, best pillows ever, and a family sized shower!
Breakfast was amazing. The usual full english with live cooking area plus many other options including Indian, Chinese plus a live noodle bar! Lovely pastries too. How could I forget to mention the chocolate fountain, also a strawberry one.
Although not far to walk to the Petronis towers, it was energy sapping humidity and also dodgy pavements and manic traffic! If you want to go further than half a mile it is worth getting a taxi (always make sure you get the metered ones not a quote)
The pool area was great. The service here was also fantastic and we were shown to a sunbed and had several towels laid out for us. It is a very pretty garden and a little oasis in the city centre. A really welcome dip in the pool in the seering heat.
We enjoyed going to the central market and then walked over to the old colonial area.
Having a drink in one of the bars at the base of the towers was great as a sundowner (happy hour too!) and cheaper than other areas. The food hall in the mall at the towers is a very good place to eat inexpensively, whereas we found that restaurants were quite expensive. Maybe due to the weak £.
Not to be missed is the KL tower which is near the hotel but very high up a hill and a draining walk. Take a taxi there (peanuts) and get the free shuttle bus back and then walk back to the hotel.
Amazing view from the top. Try to pick a clear day if you can.
Loved this hotel, the service was fabulous.

Room Tip: ask for a view

There was nothing to complain about at all. Everything was in the right place. And the recently refurbished room was warm and comfy.
