It's a 5 star hotel in KL, situated in a nice part of town. It's ... O.K.! I can't get excited about any of it though. The check in was slow, torturously slow, the club lounge is ok, as far as it goes but it just scrapes over the bar rather than anything more, service is very hit & miss, you generally have to ask for everything; cutlery, drinks etc and it arrives in slow time.
Beware the hotel taxis, I think they must press a magic meter button, the same taxi journey cost double from the hotel compared to a street hire.

The rooms, again, it's OK, AC makes exciting noises, shower cubicle leaks water all over floor.
As we had got a very good company rate, I can't get excited enough to complain but I'll go back to the JW Marriott next time I am in town.

I stayed at the GMKL during April, in a Club Room. Club Rooms are in on a separate floor with access to the Club Lounge on the 18th floor. The room was refurbished and comfortable. Check-in was at midnight and the front office staff was very helpful and professional. Wifi and breakfast were included in my room rate. If your goal is shopping, you can't beat the GMKL as it is very central and steps from Pavillion Mall and it's many eating and drinking outlets. Both the pool and spa at the GMKL were very good also. I agree that the hotel needs upgrading as it's age shows. Other hotels in the immediate area to consider as the Marriott, the Westin and the Park Royal.

I normally don't write reviews but thought I should share how much I love staying at the GMKL.
My husband and I have stayed many times over the last 12 years and always feel so comfortable and at home when we arrive. The club rooms, especially the suites are amazing, and the hospitality of all the staff has been more than we could ask for. This time I came with my daughter and two girlfriends who were more than impressed with the personal service we all received. Staff has changed over the years but I can not speak anymore highly of Ina, and Linda who was unfortunately on leave, and all the staff of Bistro 160. I simply love the cocktails, the service, and the food served at the Bistro, as well as the service of your wonderful staff in the club lounge. The club lounge is a lovely spot to unwind after a shopping excursion, with all major shopping centres simply across the road from the hotel. I would like to thank Yoke for her exceptional service along with Shidi, Sim, Fadzli, Ellie, Fricis, and Ariel who make unwinding in the club lounge so enjoyable.
Even though I have only mentioned a few names, the service you receive from everyone at GMKL is beyond expectation. Keep up the good work GMKL, and I can't wait for my longer visit early January.

Room Tip: All rooms I have stayed in have been exceptional.

We were a bit sad when we entered our room in KL. It was a bit dingy and the tub was dirty - including someone's hair (still there the second day - I cleaned it out myself before my daughter took a bath). Stains on furniture and carpet - not dirty, just time for an update.

The wait for check-in in the club room was long - but the staff there was great. We couldn't use the club room as kids aren't allowed, but it looked lovely. A nice spot for a drink and really great perks and service.

The location is perfect - we took advantage of the wonderful LRT and Monorail. So easy to use.

If you can get a good deal on the room, the location can make it worthwhile - also, even though the hotel was fully booked and the staff was working hard, they were always friendly.

Tip for business travelers: We were there to present at a conference at the hotel and enjoy a short vacation after. The business staff center wasn't able to print a powerpoint presentation for us 6-up to a page. The staff that day was not very computer savvy. So we went to the club level and they helped us and were great. If here for business - club level is well worth the price! Some free laundry service and great snacks, water, etc. too.

Ok a little pricey but a nice place. Rooms are good but a little dated. Still provide all a traveller needs.
Great location in the heart of bukit bintang ( be warned the whole area is a building site. Heaps going on here)
Breakfast has a massive selection , usual problems with a buffet , the food can be out a lil while.
Overall if you can get a special price you should book here.
They gave us late checkout at no cost

I our party of 6 (3 rooms) checked in for 8 nights from 26 March 2014. We were visiting KL primarily to attend the F1 race meeting at Sepang. This hotel has probably been operating for some years, However, we found the rooms, the service, the food and the overall feeling of this hotel to be superb. From check to check our 8 days later was a very good experience. You were really made to feel like part of the family at GMKL and I am at a loss as to why recent reviewers have criticised the place. Of course we got KL not long after the lost off Malaysian flight MH370. You could feel the sense of loss throughout the City.

As for the staff, nothing was problem. Probably one of the best room service hotels (and at reasonable price) that I have ever experienced. It is in a prime location, close to Bukit Bintang monorail station and masses of shopping centres for our respective partners.

We would all stay stay again without any hesitation.

The head Chef at the Mill Café made us fees so welcome and went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the our buffet experience was memorable.

What more can I say. Usually people who have bad experience as places like GKML are those who have unreasonable expectations or make unusual demands upon the hotel.

Why am I so lengthy in this report, simple, we were treated like we were part of their family. That doesn't happen very often.

Room Tip: There are some rooms that face a construction site next door but that happens in every city in the w...
