“So-so place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2012

OK, here`s my view:
The area around this place is so-so. There is an abandoned old car opposite, and run-down / empty houses all round it. On the other hand, it is 5 mins. walk from all the shops / monorail link.

Rooms are the smallest I have ever stayed in (after 20 years of travel), no wardrobe space.
But the room is artistically designed, and has a good bed.

No en-suite bathroom. You have your own cubicle toilet/shower with only body soap provided.
Not enough room to change for females, my wife said.

The manager is not good : he is a young-minded early 30s guy. When we arrived hot and tired, he had us sit down while he went off to fix new tea and coffee. Having done this, he made himself a drink only and sat down, nothing for us.

The drinks area is nicely laid-out and comfortable, boutique-like. The lobby has similar nice furnishings and wall art.

In summary, the place is clean, nice beds, centrally located but with tiny rooms, unprofessional service, and cubicle showers that may not provide sufficient privacy for female
travellers.

We shared the quad room for 1 night while transiting through KK. The room consists of a double bed downstairs and twin beds (more like mattresses on the floor) above, accessed via a ladder.
The hotel is only a few months old and clean and modern. The rooms and bathrooms are small but the quad room is bigger and has a good sized modern bathroom.
There is s nice little courtyard to eat the free breakfast provided or to just relax in.
We had a bit of trouble finding the hotel as it is tucked down a side street but it was really quiet yet very centrally located and we were able to walk to shopping centres, Petronis Towers and Chinatown.
The staff were helpful and friendly and allowed us to leave our luggage there after our early morning arrival.

I stayed in this hotel for 1 night:
+ Nice decoration, hotel seems new or has been renovated recently
+ Room was clean
+ Convenient location, close to shops and restaurants
- Room was very small, no wardrobe and we didn't use the balcony as there were mice..
- The neighborhood itself is not very attractive

I think this is a OK hotel for 1 or 2 nights, not more.

Nice guesthouse near a foodcourt and shoppingmalls close by. I love how they decorated everything in Borneo style, makes the place very homely. Breakfast is self service and coffee, thee and water are free during the whole day. We had a room downstairs, they were small, but its great to see that everything you need can fit in this small area. The shower is great, the toilet gets wet but who care's, what do you want more at that price range. The rooms are very clean the bed is great, you have an airco. Try finding a better deal in KL !

My friend and I (both 34yo females) paid in advance for 3 nights at the Homestyle Hotel. We arrived at 4pm and found the front security gate locked so pressed the buzzer. No response. We waited a minute, then pressed again (a bit harder and longer this time). We waited a few more minutes and discussed that it was fortunate to arrive during the day because, although within walking distance of everything, Homestyle hotel's backstreet location is not a place where we would be comfortable to spend time after dark while unable to get inside.
Above the entry buzzer was a phone number to call if no one responded to the buzzer. My friend called it and the person who answered was surprised that we had had no response and said we would be let in shortly. We were then let in by a disheveled young man who grunted for us to come in and then walked off down the hall. We followed him to the reception area and he looked at us and said "why did you have to call my boss?" He seemed quite cranky that we had woken him up and was rude and unprofessional and half grunted instructions at us in between yawns. He asked for a RM30 key deposit and then walked away up some stairs. We took that to mean that he was showing us to our room so we collected up all our luggage and followed him.
The room was clean but small but we expected that in this price range. We did not expect the bathroom!!! The "bathroom" was down the hall past a common TV/living area and appeared to be a toilet cubicle that someone had just installed a shower head in. If you were to shower here, the toilet and toilet paper would get saturated because they are under the shower head. We thought that one of us would have to wait outside the cubicle with a towel for the other, then pass it in when they had showered so they could at least be wearing a towel when they ran past the common area to our room. I could not work out how you could possibly get dressed in there after you showered so as to avoid being semi-naked in the common area.
We did not feel comfortable staying at Homestyle so arranged alternative accommodation and then went downstairs to return our key and get our key deposit back (and maybe a portion of what we had paid in advance for 3 nights). There was no one at reception. We called out "HELLO!!" about 15 times and no one answered. Our calls got louder and louder as we began to laugh at our situation. We did not see anyone else in the hotel to talk to (staff or customers) so we put the room key on the reception desk, kissed our key deposit and any refund goodbye and left.
As we walked off down the street loaded up like pack horses, I heard my name and turned around. Across the street was the guy we had woken up 20 minutes earlier, eating in a restaurant. He called out "Bye" and waved to us as we shook our heads, laughing, and walked down the road to some better accommodation.
