23/11/2013. booked a twin room but it's a bed on top of another like a dorm bed. No side table or clothes cupboard. Winter Room. Aircon was a blower. Booked via hostel.com n picture showed a twin room.

aircon starts from 9pm to 10am. asked for a change of bedroom. says there is no availability. was very stuffy and hot air. had to bear with it and refused to compensate me when I asked Ms Sejuna.

I was travelling with my friends. The staff were very helpful and nice. They are very easy to get a long with and trying to make yourselves at home. The room is pretty clean and spacious.

What we really love is the roof top on the 4th floor. It's a nice place to hang out after a long day going around KL.

They are plenty of shops near the hostel and very close to the bus stop and train station,

Room Tip: Bring your own food and drinks to the roof top. It's a nice place to hang out!

Great location in Chinatown and by central markets. Lots of resturants and street food to choose from. Right by train station straight into city centre, takes 5mins and a few mins kuala lumpur station and kl sentral. We stayed in a large double room, modern with dressing table and then stayed in a smaller double when we extended our stay. Perfect to be honest for what we needed. Rooms are modern clean and have aircon. Free basic brekkie includes bread, jam and peanut butter and free coffee and milo. The coffee is good too! Wifi free and very fast. Much better than any Australian hostel I've stayed in. Cable tv in common area, free use of computers and internet, free lockers, and this place has a lovely roof terrace to listen to kl waking up, or just to chill out outside. The staff are so friendly And helpful. I asked a few questions about the Thai embassay and the guy on reception brought up details in his computer without asking and phoned them for me. The really go out of their way to help and make you feel comfortable. Will stay again when next in kl. Oh and the beer is the cheapest we have found in kl by far. There is no lift in hostel and so those who stuggle to walk up stairs my find unsuitable.

I stayed there and was NOT impressed with the internet. It is quite over priced for what you get. I paid RM40 for a room and it was not work more than RM 15 you can get other places. The good thing is it is directly across the street from the LRT.

If you need to get online, you can forget. Dailup is the order of the day here. An investment into high speed internet would be a smart move. :)

Firstly the positives:

Really good location in the heart of Chinatown and less than a minute to Central Market. Also 2 minutes to the nearest LRT and bus terminal
Organised a bus to Penang for us and this ran smoothly
Bed was comfortable with decent bedding and free towels in private room. Even got two pillows each!
Hostel was very clean and looked new (with the exception of the carpet)
Security is really good with decent sized lockers and a security key to enter the main door
One of the staff members (Mahon?) was really helpful in sorting out an early morning airport transfer for us for a decent rate!

The negatives:
Paid £14 a night for a private room and it was filled almost completely by the bed without enough space for luggage
Many middle-aged men walking around the hostel despite it being advertised as a backpacker hostel
Staff are hit and miss and can be rude at times
Showers and toilets are placed at the back of the hostel so you have to walk through the communal living area which is always packed and it can be quite uncomfortable
Advertised as having air conditioning in the room, however there is a central a/c unit in the lobby and vents into the room meaning you have no control over the temperature. At night when the air conditioning in the lobby was on it was ok, but during the day it was very hot in the room. Wouldn't have booked had we known this.

Overall, OK for the price. Sure there are many better places in KL.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The hostel is located in a great location right next to Psar Seni station and there are many places to eat and see within walking distance. I stayed in the 24 bed mixed dorm. It has ac running at night and the washroom and showers were very clean and serviced. The beds were spread out with plenty of space for my pack and a storage locker is provided next to each bed (bring your own lock). The wifi connection was excellent!

Room Tip: can't comment on the single rooms but for the dorm try to get a bed in the corners if you want a...

I've not stayed at Fernloft on two separate occasions. The first being back in April and now again in October. The first time in a private room and the second in the large dormitory. The hostel is clean, has great internet, and is an excellent point to explore China Town, or get to the train if you are going further. I would highly suggest staying here, but just know that the breakfast is simple and that you grab directions before heading into the city.
