KL sorely lacks good five star hotels so I was delighted to try out the Villa Samadhi which has been open almost two years now. Part of the Relais et Chateaux group of hotels, it is located behind the US Embassy about ten minutes from the central business district. The hotel has 24 rooms and is a traditional styled structure with lots of concrete and reclaimed wood.

My room was quite large with a nice bathroom. The restaurant on site is very good for breakfast, lunch or dinner (please note that it opens at 8am unless you ask them ahead of time to open a little early). There is a pool in the compound although it is not really designed to swim laps. There is no health club. I suggested that they at least provide yoga mats in each room.

A charming hotel yet it is quirky. First, it seemed a little understaffed. One night we went up to the cosy roof top bar but there was no bartender. We grabbed beers out of the refrigerator and wrote down what we consumed on the honor system. The first morning, I had trouble getting the TV to work, so at 6:45am I went downstairs but there was no one on duty until 8am.

The whole experience reminded me of borrowing your best friend's luxury ski lodge for weekend. It was a beautiful place, but it took a while to figure out the whole place works.

First words out of my husband's mouth was '...' he was absolutely gobsmacked by the splendor, luxuriousness and tranquility of Villa Samadhi and to think that it is right in the middle of KL City, the perfect staycation destination for anyone wanting a break away from reality.

The wonderful hospitality of Cherie & her staff made us feel so welcome and right at home immediately; indeed we never wanted to leave.Thank you thank you thank you to Cherie, Cornie and to all the staff at Villa Samadhi for making his birthday a most memorable one!

We stayed at the Luxe Crib, a spacious choice with direct access to the pool, a balcony/sundeck and a huge jacuzzi in our bathroom. Although there were other guests at the resort, we only saw them during breakfast time. We sought peace and relaxation, and definitely got it!

We eagerly look forward to our return and would highly recommend Villa Samadhi!

Room Tip: The rooms located on the ground floor have direct access to the pool plus, for any smokers, you are allowed to smoke on the balcony.

My partner and I absolutely loved our stay at Villa Samadhi. The hotel and rooms are out of this world - amazing decor, attention to detail and every comfort you could want. Whilst not a cheap hotel, considering the standard of the accommodation it is definitely good value for money. Additionally, the staff (particularly Cherie) were wonderful and went completely above and beyond. We definitely hope to return to Villa Samadhi!

Villa Samdhi is a dream cine true for a city central property! A bit tough to get to when driving, but acceptable, the retreat is worth it! Love the serenity within, large size accommodation , pool right in front of bedroom, jacuzzi at entrance parlor! Couldn't be a better choice for an anniversary getaway of 3 days!
I like the simplicity of the food! Original no complications, and hey NO TELEPHONE, perfect !

To be fair to the hotel, we dropped off a bottle of champagne as a present for a couple of friends staying there as a birthday present. We simply asked for it to be left in their room. Of course, the hotel may have lost some revenue but we thought it was not an unreasonable request. The girl at reception hardly not a single word!! Unsmiling, she approached us and we had to explain what we wanted. She clearly understood english and spoke it well; she was just not in the least bit interested, and shuffled off with the bottle and a disgruntled "OK"

Luckily, we hadn't booked in. But front of house first impressions count, and this little hotel looks very tired and run down, in an isolated residential neighbourhood. We would not ever consider suggesting it to friends when KL is full of excellent hotels.
