Hotel Summer View
Ranked #64 of 349 Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Reviewed July 24, 2013

For a mid-level hotel you get what you should expect: basic amenities, limited breakfast selections, solid service. If this is what you require, the Summer View is a great choice. We've stayed here twice before so we knew what to expect upon arrival. All the positives have been mentioned in other reviews: great location for exploring the city, good security, simple clean rooms. The negatives have also been covered: rough-ish neighborhood (though we have never experienced anything amiss), smallish rooms without fridge, and a lackluster breakfast buffet to begin the day. But Summer View is definitely a cut above similarly-priced hotels both in the area and the rest of KL.

One warning: if you are traveling with a child as we were--an 11-year-old--the king size beds are smaller than other kings you will find in Malaysia. And the deluxe twins do not accommodate two comfortably, so there is no ideal room for a family of three.

This is a very nice hotel to stay in kl. room is spacious and clean enough. 2 bottle of water and coffee provided daily. Room well kept with a safe also. Breakfast is provided thought we don't have much choice but its ok for the price. Some people say the place is not safe but I stayed there for 3 nights and it was ok. Close to little India , kl sentral. Monorail is close. Service is good. I would advise people to go there.

The hotel was averagely clean, but a little bit shabby and old fashioned. The bathroom was a bit dark. The room was not too large. However, the breakfast turned out to be ok. Choices of fried rice, fried noodle, dim sum, porridge, pancake, bread-butter-jam, sauteed vegetable and fruits.

The hotel was conveniently located in KL Sentral area. Only about 10-min walk to KL Sentral station and 5-min walk to monorail station. There's 7-Eleven store beside the hotel.

The staffs almost always looked busy, no smile............but they were quite firendly when I required assistant.

Greta location which is near the sentral train station if you are intend to travel in the public transport. 5 min walk to the train station yet without the high traffic noisy street. The room is clean and reasonably spacious.

Breakfast is less than desire which you can skip and go for something else outside the hotel.

My partner and I spent our first two nights in Kuala Lumpur at Hotel Summer View.  "Average" really is just the best word to describe this place; there's nothing majorly wrong with it, but it's certainly far from spectacular. I've come to appreciate that accommodation in Kuala Lumpur is expensive, but nonetheless Hotel Summer View borders on overpriced for the quality and facilities available.

ROOM:  We stayed in a king deluxe room, which was reasonably sized, if a bit spartan.  The bed was comfortable and made with new-ish linen. The bathroom was small and clean, but liable to flood, and was poorly ventilated, meaning it got very steamy after a shower.

Our room was on the 9th floor, which for some reason was also home to some other noisy machinery which was audible from within our room.  Our room's air-conditioning was effective but also very noisy; at least it drowned out the other hallway noises.

SERVICE:  We arrived at 2:00am as a result of a late flight, and even at that hour we were checked in promptly and with minimal hassle, although we were required to carry our own bags upstairs.

Security guards were on duty 24/7.

Both housekeeping and reception staff were consistently cheerful for the duration of our stay, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for the ladies who hosted the breakfast service, all of whom appeared quite inconvenienced to be on duty, and had a rude snigger on my behalf when, after minimal sleep, I couldn't figure out how to use the strange toaster.

The complimentary breakfast was pretty lacklustre: by 9am all the cooked food was cold, and  vegetarian options were exceedingly limited and tasteless.

Rather astonishingly, the hotel offered no laundry service, and instead suggested that we take our clothes 200m down the road to the YMCA.  For the record the YMCA did an excellent laundry job, which makes one wonder why Hotel Summer View doesn't formalise an arrangement with them.

LOCATION: The hotel is located in Brickfields, aka "Little India", so named because it is indeed reminiscent of the real thing.  There are plenty of good Indian restaurants and small eateries surrounding the hotel, and a 7-eleven right next door.

KL Sentral station is a short walk away meaning transport options are excellent, including the  Aerobus (MYR 8.00 per person) which we caught from the LCCT (airport) at 1:00am without a single drama.

Room Tip: A room on a higher floor affords a nice view over Brickfields, but avoid the 9th floor due to very l...

There really was nothing to dislike about this hotel but there really was anything special about it either. It is what you expect when you book a moderately priced hotel. The location was good, a very short walk from KL Sentral. WiFi worked well. The staff was friendly. I did not much care for the breakfast buffet but that would be the only negative.
