We stayed in the 1BR unit which came with complimentary breakfast. The hotel is situated in the Menara HCB/HSC ? Tower. The unit is spacious has a living room with attached, fully equipped kitchen with a microwave, hot plate, fridge, washing machine, sufficient cooking utensils,a dining table and chairs. The bedroom has an attached closet. There is a small separate area for storing the baggage. Bathroom has a bathtub and small shower area. The unit was well furnished and spotless. You can get a view of the Petronas from higher floors. Breakfast is served in an adjoining restaurant. The menu is limited and repetitive, becomes boring from the second day. The crossiants and pastries were good. There is an omlette station, besides fruits, juice, milk etc. However, the dinner we ordered through room service was excellent with large portions. Remember to order before 10 pm. If you are checking in at the hotel late in the night , please have your dinner at the airport. We would have gone hungry had we not carried some noodle packets with us. There is a booklet which has phone numbers and menu of several restaurants which deliver food. But, again almost all close by 10 pm. Avg cost per dish is 15-25 RM. If you stand facing the hotel and walk for 5 minutes (slow pace) to your right, you will come across the Ampang Park Shopping Centre (diagonally opposite), which has a Mac Donalds. This is a major traffic junction and may be a problem to cross with kids and elderly. If you take a left from the hotel and walk for 10- 15 mins you will come to the Hock Choon Supermarket. The best bet would be to order through phone. The hotel has a shuttle service (limited hours) which takes you to KLCC and Pavillion MAll, one way. Book in advance at reception, as limited seats. Almost all the Malls are within 5-10 mins by taxi of each other and cost 8-12 RM by meter. Some are within walking distance. We went from KLCC - Menara (good rate for money exchange)- Pavillion - Sunsei Wang (best rate for money exchange)- Berjaya Time Square and then back to Ampang Park. If you are going to Genting negotiate with taxis at these malls and ask to pick you from the hotel (100RM was the best we got). From KLIA to Somerset we took a prepaid taxi from the airport counter (85 RM). MUST visit the swimming pool on the top floor for the view of the Petronas at night.

Room Tip: Take Higher floor, room facing Petronas

This is a nice, new hotel with very friendly staff and nice, modern rooms. Cleaning staff are approachable and thorough. The location is good, close to embassies and a short cab (or 20 minute walk, or free shuttle in the morning) to PETRONAS Towers and KLCC. Bonus having a nice restaurant (SOULed Out Ampang) attached to the hotel, which does a nice happy hour and pretty good pizzas, Indian food, Asian noodle dishes and some Western food. Breakfast is included at SOULed Out - it is a rather uninspiring buffet, but would be fine for a short-term stay. The rooftop pool is quite nice and it is possible to get a good workout in the gym, with a few cardio machines, a couple weight machines and some free-weights.

The hotel does however have some issues that might give you pause. First, my room is consistently a bit musty/damp, which is a bit offputting. Cleaning staff have tried to address this by adding an air freshener and a disposable de-humidifier, but it still feels a bit stale. In addition, one evening the air system emitted a horrendous sewer gas odour, which appears to be a bit of a recurring issue judging by some other reviews on TA.

Second, the wifi internet is CRUSHINGLY slow - even browsing news sites is a challenge, the service frequently cuts out, and good luck trying to watch a YouTube video or anything along those lines. It might be better on lower floors but that really shouldn't matter. The hotel bills itself as an excellent place for business travellers, but it is hard to get any serious work or play done with 'net this bad. It should be noted that the wifi is free, which is nice, but there should at least be an option to upgrade to something faster for a fee.

Overall - I would recommend it, but needs to address some issues to become a top-notch hotel.

Room Tip: Be sure to let staff know if you want a no-smoking room as several floors are quite pungent.

I stayed in a two bedroom, two bathroom serviced apartment here recently for four months whilst working in KL. I had a great stay.

The apartment was spacious and generally well appointed. The furniture and fit-out was not of the highest quality, but was modern and quite comfortable. The beds were very comfy and there was ample storage in the apartment. Cooking facilities in the kitchen were basic, but serviceable. The view was lovely. There was a great sense of space (ie, not looking at another apartment building) and the lights of the city and twin towers were beautiful at night. The apartment was quiet – I never heard another guest’s TV, music or conversation during my four month stay.

The location is great. It’s about a five minute walk to the Ampang Park train station, where the LRT trains are cheap, frequent, reliable, air conditioned and clean. This train line will take you to many of KL’s key attractions including KLCC, Sentral station; Chinatown and Berjaya Times Square shopping centre (complete with indoor amusement park!!). There are two supermarkets within 8 minutes’ walk of the apartments (in either direction), and KLCC is only a 15 minute walk (stroll) away if you don’t mind the Malaysian heat/humidity. There is also a free shuttle from Somerset to all major shopping centres that runs on the half hour both in the morning and the evening. Finally, there is a very secure bank of ATMs on the ground floor of the ‘G’ Tower building which you can see from the apartment block – only a four to five minute walk away.

The restaurant downstairs (Souled Out) was really good for a hotel eatery. It had a very broad, reasonably priced menu of snacks and meals, including a good mix of Asian and Western inspired food. Over the course of my stay I tried most things on the menu, and enjoyed almost everything. The breakfast was okay, though not really of a four star standard. The mojitos are particularly good, and are not bad value during happy hour!! ;-)

The hotel and restaurant staff were the stand out feature of my stay – they all remembered me and addressed me by name from the first or second meeting, and made me feel very much at home. This makes quite a difference when you’re living away from home because of work.

My husband and I will be staying at Somerset Ampang Park when we next visit Kuala Lumpur. It’s a great option for a short or longer stay.

Just home after 5 nights in Somerset Ampang - our second visit. We love this place as it meets all our needs.

The staff are all very helpful, efficient and friendly. The apartment was spacious, comfortable, well-furnished and equipped, also with good-quality linens, and maintained to a good standard. We didn't use the pool or the gym, but we did take advantage of sitting in the residents lounge (also on level 22) where the views were wonderful.

Although the location is not right in the centre of everything, we used the shuttle bus several times and it was easy to walk back from KLCC or take the bus-ride for 1 RM. We didn't use a taxi until we left.

The breakfast was a bit hit-and-miss sometimes, but overall it was ok.

We didn't want to leave and are already looking forward to our next visit.

I stayed at the Somerset Ampang from 01 Sept 2012 to 22 Sept 2012. It was a very comfortable hotel for a very competitive price at MYR232 (AUD$75) per night which included a cooked breakfast daily. The serviced apartment had a lounge room, a dining area, a kitchen (incluing a washing machine / dryer combo) and a separate bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. Good aircon, high ceilings with fans, and a bathroom with a big bath and a shower. The pool has a stunning infinity pool with tremendous views of KL city. The hotel is located in the 'embassy area' must outside the city centre. The British and French embassies are next to the hotel. Five minutes walk away is Ampang Plaza, an old but interesting shopping centre. The shopping centre is next to the KL subway which makes it extremely convenient to get across the city. KLCC is only two stops (5min) away from Ampang Plaza station. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. All in all, the Somerset Ampang was affordable, well-appointed, well located, comfortable and enjoyable.

We really find it hard to find places to stay outside Australia with enough space for our family of six especially with separate bedrooms. We were en route to Europe with an overnight stop in KL.
It's the first time we've done an Asian stop over and it seemed to help the jet lag.
The three bedroom apartment was immaculate. The washer/drier was a real boon.
The attached restaurant where you eat breakfast was really welcoming and made a fuss of our kids.
Location is walkable to the twin towers. We didn't go up as the towers are closed on Mondays but still a sight worth seeing. There is a nice kids water playground nearby the towers
All in all a great stopover
