My husband and myself went for a quick trip to KL and stayed in a hotel near the KLCC. Since we were just there for a few days, we decided to not just go to malls and shopping destinations nearby. After all, visiting a new a country is about learning about its heritage - at least for us.

Rumah Penghulu is a something that we love and adore. With its location. 10 mins walk from our Hotel. The old style house they are occupying. The history. The architecture and the gisft shop! not to mention its FREE - just a voluntary donation minimum 10 MYR.

Jee- The Administrator is one of the most helpful lady I have met during our visit. She has sooo much knowledge about the culture and heritage of Malaysia that I can actually listen to her all day! :-)

Ida - Our Resource Person during our tour, is a lovely lady with full of smiles and shared a lot of infomration with us.

Def to people reading this review, Rumah Penghulu is a place you must visit when coming Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Me and my wife visited the Rumah Penghulu tour in Kuala Lumpur. We had a day spare in Malaysia before flying back to the UK and really wanted to visit this property - we had also visited a Badan Warisan property in Malaka and very much enjoyed it. We entered the Head Quarters of Badan Warisan and were warmly met my the staff there. We explained that we hoped to have a tour of the heritage property, Rumah Penghulu, and paid the very small fee. The guide that showed us around the property was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and spoke excellent English. She showed us around the house, going into detail about ancient objects, the wood, craftsmanship of the house, how the food was prepared originally... many many things. It was very interesting and in a country and a city that seems to want to forget its past and focus on modern technology and giant glass / metal skyscrapers this was a very refreshing approach. After the tour of the house we were kindly given a glass of water each and spent some time in the very cheap souvenir shop. We both really liked this trip and couldn't recommend it enough if you have 2 hours to spare in KL and are interested in the heritage of Malaysia.

Incredibly steep walk up to the base of the tower if you're considering. There's a free bus service from the entrance up to the tower.
The views are fantastic and much, much more to see than KLCC Twin Towers.

The mini tour is gives a wonderful insight into life in an Malasian village in the mid 20th century. The guide was delightful and was only too happy to answer all your questions as well as explaining the Malaysian way of life. Much better than the usual tourist attractions!! The cost was by donation - suggested RM10

This site contains an ancient Malaysian house transported here and maintained in very excellent conditions by the staff.
The staff is also very kind and will be your guide trough a 30 minutes (approximately) guided tour. The house is also surrounded by a nice garden.
In KL is a nice place to be visited, close to other main attractions.
