“An oasis”
Reviewed November 25, 2010

We stayed in Anggun in late September 2010 and loved this small, quiet boutique hotel amidst the concrete jungle of busy KL. Coming back each afternoon, after spending all day on the streets was like returning home. The staff were friendly but not intrusive, the breakfast just right, the location perfect, being near all the foodie streets. The decor is very well done, and whilst the rooms are a little small, they represent very good value for money, with internet facilities in each room, a fridge, and good bathroom. I plan to return to Anngun next time.

We stayed here for 10 days from the beginning of October. We were looking for a small, peaceful boutique hotel in walking distance to good food and local attractions. Anggun was absolutely perfect. The attention to detail is exceptional from the room décor, with beautiful hand painted ceramic sinks and big flat screen TV/computers, to the staff that were always happy to assist.
Breakfast on the rooftop veranda is a lovely way to start the day and if you like something savory give the local porridge a go. It was delicious.
There are great eating places in every direction (we tried a few of the more expensive ones like Bijan, but found the street stalls to be just as good). The hop on hop off bus stops across the road and is a great way to see the sights around KL. The bird park is a great stop as it is the largest aviary enclosure in world and you can wander freely inside with the birds.
Check out the local designers in Sungei Wang Plaza (also walking distance). For made to measure men’s suits or tailored pants for women I can recommend Page Tailor in this plaza.
We look forward to staying at Anggun next trip to KL.

Anggun was a breath of fresh air amidst cheap tile and florescent tube lights! They have done a lovely job on the rooms, paying tasteful attention to the small details. The rooms were spotless, the beds comfortable, the staff friendly, the location great and the overall aesthetic was a very welcome change to a standard, generic hotel room. Anggun is a great deal for a charming boutique hotel in the heart of KL!.

The Anggun hotel is in the middle of a bit of a backpacker area, but needless to say is far better accomodation for a still reasonable rate. It's walking distance to great bars and restaurants, really just a block away. The monorail is just a few blocks away, too. We drove and had parking around the corner for two days for 10 ringgit, only a few dollars. The rooms are nice and new, free wifi, a great bathroom, and a comfortable bed. The room isn't big, but this isn't the kind of place where you hang out at the hotel. Breakfast in the morning is on the roof and was a great place just to hang out. Not too much of a view, but quite pleasant. We'd definitely stay here again. Try the Vietnamese restaurant just a few doors up, Sao Nam, the best Vietnamese we've had in a long time.

This was our first stop in Malaysia and it made a great impression. We loved the location, it was easy to get around and see everything we wanted to see in KL on our stopover there. We arrived at about 8am and expected to just drop our bags off and come back later in the afternoon, but they said come back in an hour and they'd have room, which was perfect. The room and bathroom was nice. Our room's windows faced the courtyard, which made it pretty dark, but it was actually fine. Our sleep was great that night after our flight and exploring all day. The rooftop lounge area is really nice and surprisingly quiet. Breakfast up there was good, and we had a couple of beers up there too. Next time I'm in KL, I'll definitely see if they have a room available.

I arranged directly with the hotel that they'd pick me up from Kuala Lumpur airport. After a very long flight I was met by a driver, who told me that the hotel had "made a mistake" and that I would be taken to a different hotel. The hotel had overbooked and attempted to pack me off to a different hotel without having to actually see me in the process.

I ended up at the most awful 1000 room tower block of a hotel called the Berjaya instead. Not what you expect when you book a small boutique.

Unimpressed.

This charming Colonial inspired hotel is a real hidden gem. For the price you pay you really couldn't ask for anything more. The location is absolutely perfect for shopping and sightseeing. The room was spotless with very little outside noise. Breakfast was a delight situated on the top floor which open air and extremely attentive waiting staff.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to KL.
