“A Nice Place to Stay”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

We stayed at this wonderful hotel over the Easter period and really enjoyed it.
Our room on the front was large and very comfortable the bathroom was especially good. All hotels should take note even though this was almost a wet room the water did fall away really well and not everything did get wet and there was no mould. The restaurant on the roof was really good. Breakfast was full of choices and we ate lunch their one afternoon and would of done so again if staying longer. The hotel is really well placed close to China Town; if walking is your go and with bars, restaurants and shops at each end of the street. Places to eat try Sao Nam (Vietnamese) just down the street and the Old China Café in China Town definitely a must try. We caught the Hop On and Hop Off bus with no problems in fact it goes for so long you could quite happily just stay on for the whole day and do a city tour. One thing to note (as others have said previously) the rooms on the front are noisy. Didn’t’ worry us too much but if you are a light sleeper it would be a real problem. Not sure about the other rooms as they as they face into the stair well. If staying in KL again we would pick this place if you like small boutique hotels this is lovely.
Great staff with a special mention to the breakfast ladies.

Room Tip: Just be aware of the rooms on the front with the noise.

My wife and I stayed at Anggun for 4 nights in total. We had one night, then flew to Singapore for 4 nights and then returned for another 3 nights. The location of this hotel is great, 5 mins walk to Jalan Alor for a huge range of food, and, another couple of mins to Jalan Bukit Bintang for shopping and people watching. The area has many restaurants, bars and hotels/guesthouses. It's also easy walking distance to some gigantic shopping complexes. The hotel has many positives other than location. Beautifully decorated well equiped rooms, comfotable beds, good aircon, friendly staff, an elevator, a welcoming garden area to sit and enjoy a cold drink after a long days sightseeing and many other points that make it a nice experience. But........there are also some negatives, the first night we were there we had a room on the second floor that faced directly on to the road......a very busy and noisy road, but, the room did have natural light. When we returned we requested a room at the back of the hotel away from the road. It was much quieter, but lacked natural light. The rooms, other than the front rooms, all face the central courtyard and the windows all face into the courtyard. Privacy is an issue so you need to close the curtains. This in turn means switching on the fairly inadequate lighting during daylight hours.
We didn't eat there other than the well prepared and generous breakfast. We did however go up to the restaurant for a glass of wine at the end of a long day. The hotel management need to do some research on wines. We're not overly fussy people but both the red and white wines on offer ended up in the pot plants. They would also do well to consult a sound engineer to see what can be done about the noise levels from the street, and, talk to the neighbour two doors away about the guard dog that spends most of the night barking at the world on the other side of the bars.
Would we stay here again ???.....Yes, but only in one of the back rooms.

Only had one night in KL and picked Anggun because of its location- Bukit Bintang is a lively area and as our main plan was to enjoy the evening eating out Jln Alor (just behind the hotel) was the obvious place to do it. Rooms were nicely presented, comfortable beds, large bathroom, dark wood peranakan style-as you see on the website. Staff were helpful and my 4 kids were welcomed.
We had 2 rooms at the front and while you could hear some street noise this doesn't bother us and everyone had a good night's sleep (Maybe it was a quiet night, but I wouldn't describe it as 'noisy')- if anything it added to the atmosphere and sense of place and it was nice to be able to open the windows instead of being sealed in the usual hotel-room box. I thought the front rooms were much nicer and airier than the others, which open to an internal courtyard void. I also enjoyed watching the street and especially the roti maker at work in the morning a few doors down (more on that in a minute!)
Breakfast is included in the rooftop restaurant which is a nice spot and breakfasts looked ok (various set meals- malay, chinese, indian, cereal and western options that came with tropical fruit & drinks), however we decided to pop in to the cafe next door and have Roti Canai, lime juices and good Teh Tarik instead, which was fantastic, friendly and highly recommended.

We recently stayed here for two nights with are three children. After some negotiation of the nightly rate as they decided to try and add an extra 95 MYR a night to our room rate for an extra bed even though we had been emailed a quote that had nothing about the extra charge, anyway to their credit they honoured our original quote. The family rooms are not set up for families and are cramped with more than 1 child in them. We had been travelling for 2 months and splashed out to stay at this hotel. We found the staff unhelpful and they didn't even show us to our room or take any luggage for us. We had also been quoted a 20% discount at the rooftop restaurant but this never eventuated and the waiter said he couldn't authorise the discount??

We stayed in a room facing the road and no-one could sleep as you can hear everything going on in the street below. I complained to the night staff and asked for ear plugs, he didn't have any but said he would suggest to the manager that earplugs are provided in the rooms.

The hotel is really nicely presented and very clean with all mod cons. It just lacked atmosphere and the staff were not keen to help us. The food in the restaurant is nice but again no atmosphere as it was empty??

Might suit couples but dont get a room facing the street. The central courtyard has no function and so not a place for children

Room Tip: Do not stay in rooms facing the street.

I reached KL at 5am on a weekday morning and managed to reach the hotel at 5.30am. I was prepared to check-in at around 11am, the earliest I reckon they can give me since I only booked the room for that day

Surprisingly, the staff, Wan seeing me and my partner pretty tired from the overnight ride, gave us an early check-in at 5.30am! To top it off, they gave us a very refreshing iced ginger tea and a wet towel and it was such a warm and unexpected welcome. This kind gesture was displayed throughout my stay.

Upon reaching the room, which was near the rear end, it was indeed another pleasant surprise as the style of the room was Peranakan and sparkling clean. It was a very cosy feel when one steps into the room and as can be seen from the website photo gallery, cute towel display is seen during our entire stay. The aircon was great and the bed comfortable. The only feedback is that the room can get pretty dim but there is no window in our room. During night time, some noise came from neighbours and late check-ins. Otherwise, our entire sleep was good and quality.

It is a good 15minutes walk to all major shopping outlets, It took us only a day to familiarise the area and there are many short-cuts if you know it well. Jalan Alor was the reason I chose this hotel and it was only a five-minutes walk. In fact, we walked throughout our 4 days 3 nights stay, even to Petaling (Their Chinatown). However, can give the night Petaling a miss as it is very crowded and if one is thinking of dining there, can give it a miss too as not only it is crowded, there are too few dining choices and it is horribly dirty. Hence, I settled most of my dinner near Jalan Alor. Shopping at the major outlets like Berjaya Times Square and Fahrenheit is within walking distance. Just 3 minutes walk from the hotel, there is a massage parlour and it's cheap and good, about $18 an hour.

I would think this is a good hotel though abit expensive for a Boutique hotel. But the price make up for the good service they rendered and all the staff that I encountered during my stay were really professional and patient. They cleaned up the room upon request and I really looked forward to returning it for a good sleep every night. But do note, there is another guest house, same name as anggun hotel, so do not check in the wrong hotel.

Well done, Anggun Hotel and I will return :)

Special thank must go to Wan for the early check-in as I had ample sleep prior to my endless shopping on that day!

Room Tip: Ask for the rear-end room and breakfast is common, nothing worth mentioning except for the service...

We are not huge fans of staying in large anonymous chain hotels and having read reviews chose this hotel and it was a good choice. The location of the hotel is good, being situated close to the street food and a good selection of bars and other restaurants. We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel but it could be easily reached by public transport. It is only a 5 minute walk from Bukit Bintang Monorail Station. We arrived very early at the hotel and were pleased that the hotel allowed us into our room immediately. A real bonus. We found the staff helpful and attentive throughout our stay without being obtrusive. Our room faced onto the road and although there was a little bit of street noise i don't think this was an issue. The room itself was very spacious and beautifully furnished and there were a few very personal touches which made this hotel special. This included free mineral water as well as computer use in the rooms with free access to the internet. We ate at the hotel one night and i thought the food was very good. The breakfast choice was fantastic, particularly their Malaysian breakfast which I had most mornings. There was also the option of an Indian breakfast, continental, American or typical eggs. Each breakfast was accompanied by fruit choice, coffee and fresh fruit. If i had one small quibble about the hotel is its lack of public space or terrace area for sitting and enjoying a bit of peace and quiet but it is a small hotel in a very built up area of the city.

This was a perfect choice for a few days in KL as we prefer to stay in small, personal hotels. We managed to get there and back from the airport by train (albeit carrying cases up and down stairs at the station was a little tricky), but we were centrally placed for everything we wanted to see, and it is so easy to get round on the train. Our room was lovely and comfortable and we we able to check in for our flight online and print boarding passes. Breakfast offered several choices and was served on the roof. Also the staff were so helpful, especially when I left a few small items behind in a drawer which we arranged to have returned to me in the UK. Would definitely recommend.
