One of the best hotels in KL and one of the few having a local style. The staff if extremely helpful and nice to clients (but not necessary in search for tips). The breakfast buffet is so huge you (really!) need a map to find your way through the noodles corner, Little India, the cereals buffet, the rice area, the fruit orchard, and so on.

I spent one night here in May 2013.

This is a big, grand, and rather imposing hotel that boasts a palatial lobby, a huge skylight atrium, and touches of exotic Malaysian décor here and there (with a bit of a Euro accent, I think). However, I felt it was a bit ponderous and not too memorable --- -the overall product didn’t match the spectacle, I might say.

I found the room a bit dark --- even with all lights on (there were nine light ‘points’, but somehow they were not enough) and the window shades open, whether daytime or nighttime (the window only covers less than half of the wall, contributing to the less-than-bright atmosphere).

The bed was indeed sprawling and imposing (like the hotel), but the mattress was one of the firmest I’ve tried ---- acceptable enough if you like firm beds --- but the pillows were very nice and comfy.

A great touch: the hotel provides you with a handy set of office supplies (stapler, clips, scissors, etc.) in an elegant leather box, perfect for the office road warrior!

The bathroom was unusually large, making the room seem a bit small in proportion (no, it didn’t feel like a 40 sq m room at all), with separate tub and shower areas and a separate enclosed toilet area with its own glass doors. I also liked the fact that the clothes closet opens on two sides, facing both the room and the bathroom --- but that could be a “peekaboo” problem if you share the room with someone else.

The room and the hotel seemed new and relatively fresh, but I detected some maintenance slips --- the glass door for the toilet area made loud bangs every time I closed it (this required maintenance men to come up and fix the door, which took just a minute or so); there was an unsightly hole and abandoned repair work in the hallway outside.

The internet was fast and worry-free, but TV channel selection was limited. The business center was efficient but quite expensive, unfortunately.

The buffet breakfast selection was very extensive ---- a truly 5 star spread with various western, Asian (Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, etc) choices. However, the layout was scattered and confusing, it’s not hard to miss certain food corners if you don’t do a walkaround inspection before making your selections.

The hotel seems a bit isolated in a self-contained compound, though it’s in the heart of central KL and not too far from shopping areas and other Golden Triangle attractions.

Overall ---- yes, it’s grand, but I wasn’t too impressed and the hotel lacks a bit of the personal touch.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, if possible

I just spend 2 nights at this hotel and the experience could not have been better. What a lovely location with many unexpected perks. The room was very comfy, clean and a pleasure to come back to after a long day of touring. The hotel staff was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to all and would not hesitate to go back.

We stayed at the Royale Chulan for 3 days recently on the recommendation of friends.. It's a large hotel with good service, apart from the check-in staff who were very muddled taking a long time to check us in at midnight.

The concierge is superb, room service is top quality, fittings are beautiful, rooms are so spacious and beautifully appointed. Breakfasts are varied with so many cuisines and choices available for tasting. Omelettes and pancakes are freshly made for each guest to their liking. The pool was Olympic size and very clean. However the gymnasium did smell musty when I did a workout there.
The foyer entrance is very grand with inlaid tiles, curved staircases and impressive light fittings.
I would stay there again if I revisited Kuala Lumpur and I would recommend it to friends.
Thanks for a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be very good.

The lobby of this hotel was very grand and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't quite so fancy and was quite out of date but comfortable enough and the bathroom was very nice. The location was great for us, only a few minutes walk from KLCC park and the Petronus towers. We have definitely stayed in better 5 star hotels which were probably better value for money but this is central KL so we couldn't have expected to pay much less. However if you are looking for real luxury this might not be the hotel for you. Overall we were pleased with our stay and would consider returning in the future.

I was looking forward for my stay in The Royale Chulan for its great review, however I have to say this hotel was average comapred to other 5 star hotels in Kuala Lumpur I have stayed in previously.

The room was clean and of good size. The bathroom in my room didn't have a tub but only a shower which was ok. The towels were very bad one of them was damaged so I threw it away and never used it.

The breakfast was nice, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The hotel is tucked away in a quiet area behind Pavillion mall which is within a short walking distance, however if you want to be closer to the hustle and bustle get a hotel on Bukit Bintang closer to the action.

Booked a non smoking superior room through asiatravel. Upon arrival I was told all the non smoking rooms were taken. I explained that I had to have a non smoking room as I was asthmatic so was upgraded to a suite!. The suite was enormous and beautiful inside. It had a kitchen with dining area and a big lounge area. The bedroom was in a separate area with a dressing room and huge bathroom. Outside there was a huge veranda with a view to the pool area. The room was very clean. Breakfast which was included and there was a huge choice and variety of food which was very tasty. The location is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the main shopping area of Bukit Bintang, only drawback was you had to cross a busy road to get there. The pool was a decent size and there was also a big jacuzzi. Would be happy to stay there again.
