Reggae Guest House 2
Reviewed July 4, 2010

Me and the friend I was travelling with started our tour of South East Asia at the Reggae Guest House 2 in Kuala Lumpar and compared to the hostels we stayed at later down the line this hostel is certainly top quality.

The hostel is kept immaculately clean throughout the day to the point that whenever i finshed with a glass and placed it on the common room table a staff member came to take the glass and washed it up immediately. The rooms were hooverd frequently too.

The bathrooms were western style with proper showers (no hose or bucket with water job!) and slider door seperating the toilet.

The only slight downer and I say slight downer becasue im not a fussy traveller at all was the size of the dorm room. It was quite small not leaving hardly any space to get changed inside along with the bdeds not being the biggest. The door room we stayed in slept 6 people (over 3 bunk beds) but it was fairly cheap at 20 RM a night if I remember correctly. They do have provate rooms available anyhow if you do want more space and want to be a bit more cozy.

The location is very close to one of the KL skyline stops which pretty much goes anywhere in the city or links with other transport options to get you about. Also Reggae Guest House 2 is just a minute walk awaty from its big brother hostel Reggae Guest House 1 which has a busy bar and nightlife scene so if you dont want to get woken up or disturbed by loud music this is certainly the better option in my opinion.

Reggae Guest House 2 was definetly a hostel that allowed me to settle into my travels nicely and a place that I would certainly reccomend and go back to if i were in KL, not to mention they have free tea and coffee throughout the day, free breakfast (consisting of toast and butter and jam) and 2 computers offering free internet and wifi.

I have stayed here for one night . The rooms with fan are very very small, there was one bunk bed and a small table in it. The shared bathroom was very clean and the management was helpful and gave us a lot of tips for our further journey. The disadvantage to me were the fact that there was only 1 shared WC and 1 shared bathroom for appr. 15 people, way to less!

In brief, you can absolutely have a good stay here if you are the whole day in the city and only sleep there.

The staff were very friendly, but some seemed more eager to halp/give advice than others. Main complaint would be that our double room opened directly onto the common area/kitchen, meaing we could hear everyone, and everyone could herar us. Aside from this, very clean and comfortable, and breakfast was adequate.

Located near China town. The GH is on 2nd floor, its clean and comfy. We stayed in the standard room with bunk beds .It was a lots of fun which reminded me of the college dorm.

Free for breakfast, but not much choice, toast with butter or jam, coffee and tea.

The only thing is that it's share bathroom.

Reggae Guest House 2 is fine if you aren't claustrophobic and enjoy living on top of each other. It's pretty clean, modern and new and nice looking, however they need to become clear about a few things....aside from the Double Rooms, all rooms DO NOT have an air con unit inside them...we stayed for the first 2 nights in a twin bunk room which even with the fan was too hot to sleep...they claim they have air con in all rooms...this is not true..they have a so-called extractor fan which is meant to carry cool air from the corridors into the rooms. I'm not sure if they had a problem with the air con whilst we were there, but the rooms were boiling hot. The rooms were also really small.

Watch out if you get the double room just for the tv you get in the room - only one english channel and this is controlled by whoever is out watching the tv in the kitchen/lounge area, so we would be stuck into watching something, only for it to be changed to a completely different channel - this needs to be sorted out.

Another thing not made too clear is the swimming pool isn't in the same building and you have to pay to use so we didn't bother. The pool table mentioned on some websites is down the road at their sister venue.

Wifi didn't work for a day whilst we were there.

Free tea and coffee is great if you don't mind tea without milk as its not provided, not even whitener, coffee is the 3 in 1 job which already contains sugar.

Breakfast is bread and jam.

There is only 1 toilet for males and 1 for females, same with the showers for the whole place...this was a real pain as even going to the loo became hard work as there was always someone in there.

Don't fall for the 90RM in-house offer to get you to the airport - you can get the Star Shuttle bus from the Pudu Bus station down the road for just 12RM

All in all didn't particularly enjoy our time here, have stayed in much better hostels, and don't think it's worth the money. Felt like we were cheated a bit.
