This is another place which I've heard so much about, and also seen through various Instagram shots from influencers featuring the stylish and colourful interior of this restaurant perched on the penthouse level of WOLO Hotel in Bukit Bintang area. For one I seldom go downtown so it takes a longer time for me to discover all the places here.
But opportunity came knocking when my customer asked me to bring him there for dinner one day. Reservation was made earlier - the hotel was undergoing renovation at the time of my visit. The security guard will assist you to the lift and up to the restaurant. There are 2 levels in this penthouse where the main dining hall featured high ceiling to give me those "atas" feeling.
The teams were attentive, fast and friendly to attend to every need of mine. I took a quick browse at the menu, placed my order and then proceed to take pictures of this place. There are many private rooms for parties and more intimate dining experience. The bar on the main dining area features a giant portrait of a Chinese woman holding her food and accompanied by a pink flamingo. After photoporns, the dishes were served
◾Our starter was Salmon ceviche with ginger garlic infused soy dressing and yuzu pearls - beautifully oresented and it tasted Oriental but according to the missus, it was nothing to shout about as if tasted ordinary. I agreed
◾ Nori taco with sushi rice, salmon belly & salmon roe, tobikko mayo - using crispy seaweed as their "taco base", everything blended well together just like a well-made sushi but with a twist. RM28 for one portion was considerably high but the taste made up for it.
◾our main came in the form of Stewed lamb ribs with shitake pickles, edamame beans, arborio rice and master stock (RM110) - it was fascinating to see the stewed lamb ribs served before us with the server blow torched the sauce pan to heat it up & lastly set the sauce on fire and poured it onto the ribs. This dish was a delight and certainly made up for the rather dull starter. We finished it in record time
◾we ordered their Mr Chew Special Fried Rice as side dish - you'd get 5 types of rice with corn, and other vegetables. It was a showcase of the fried rice skills of the chef - packed with the ever important wok hei, with the crispy fish floss to further enhanced the flavour.
◾We had their house wine priced from RM42-50 per glass to go with the food. Good choice as it definitely set up our mood for the night
◾Still feeling a bit hungry, we went for their fried spicy prawn, coconut cream & Kaffir lime fritters (RM55) - tasted like Thai inspired dish but in a good way.
We didn't have space anymore to hit their famed dessert bar but we did order a specially crafted cocktail from their bar to be served at our table. We had a wonderful experience so far here and we were made to feel at home with the friendly service. The food was definitely creative and delicious to say the least, and to those who love social media will find this place godsent.
