i was somewhat bewildered as one of the reviewrs described JAI HIND as a " hole in the wall'.It occupies two full shophouse premises, one being dedicated to the sweetmeat trade and the other to the retail eatery.
This restaurant has built up a reputation for excellent indian sweets, kalakand, burfies, laddus, jalebis and even savouries like omo pudi.its fame is certainly justified by the high quality seeetmeats.I daresay that these are the finest available in malaysia and the products are authentic. I must admit though that their ras-malai was not up to the mark.It was hard although the taste was there. good ras malai should melt in the mouth.
their eatery is an institution existing for around half a century.meals are available on self service basis - you take your steel plate, select the vegetable or the meats you desire and move on to pick up just off the tawa chapati,The turnover is fast and furious during the rush hours and yu are always assured off freshly done chappatis. chapattis that sit for a whil lose their texture and hence are less enjoyable.
I have also noticed the waiters accepting and processing orders for group patrons.
the range of the vegetable and meats is comprehensive ,with mutton, chicken and fish dishes for the non-vegetarians and lentils (dhall),and at least three or four assorted veteable cooked in the pujabi style for the vegetarians.
the staff has computers planted in their heads and will come up with the total price and the final bill by just looking at the items on the plate. good tea and a rarity, fresh cow milk, is also available.those preferring lassis are also well catered to.
The pricing is very reasonable and if you want a flavour of the punjabi cuisine at hawker centre prices JAI HIND is the place.
