“Great music, great atmosphere”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

This place is magic. Being very popular in KL, the quality of performers is high, you can enjoy a nice evening by listening to some good to excellent live music, close to the musicians, and talking with them during breaks. The place is cosy, people working there are nice and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and you don't have any special dress code (as explained by the name). You can also have dinner there, but I haven't tried it.

“Nice place to listen to live Jazz”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

This was recommended to us by someone we met during a food tour while in kuala lumpur. We went there last Saturday night (June 23) and the guy who was playing was supposedly very famous in Malaysia. The cover charge was pretty steep so we decided to just stay in the bar which is next door and is only separated by a curtain :) ... so we actually lucked out since we heard the show without paying and totally enjoyed it.

The bartender was so great and friendly that we totally enjoyed our last evening in Kuala Lumpur getting to know the locals. He even recommended where to eat the best chicken wings in Jalan Alor ...

I love this place and will definitely go back next time i visit KL.

BTW they also serve amazing Japanese food!

“A cultural icon a gem within a culturally embyonic land”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

This place could also be located on the Upper East, West Side or Mid Town, NY that is, not KL of course. My Wife and I pass through here and there. Great Music and the owner founder, a Chinese lady with charm and a big heart, tries to really make it special. BUT, it has become a bit profane. Where it used to be an oasis to meet truly exceptional intellectuals and folks from all walks, now you see at the Bar era a rather dull crowd and most of all, the drinks prices are outrageously not justifiable at par with a five Star Shangri La. Thats the problem. A well priced watering whole, see Washington DC, New York or London, attracts the right high speed clocked brains, an ill priced one, attracts truly boring nerds. If this trend continues, you might find the Club in a funny spot, give it 3 years. There is hope, hope springs eternal for NBT to be like it was say 5 years ago, the most wicked cultured pad with fun people enjoying life. Not now, oddly enough. The rest in the area is tourist trash, so NBT is still and Island, albeit an expensive one, we see parallels (not nice) with the from-aline ICU Island down south, Singapore, aslo now a posh and boring place......NBT please beam us back a few years.

“Not bad but a bit disappointing”
Reviewed April 22, 2012

I'm a big fan of live music and everyone had been telling me to visit this place. It's a small venue and obviously one where you go for the music and not anything else. So far, so good.

The sound wasn't too bad but the music was a bit disappointing. A female vocalist was on, supported by a standard jazz trio and while they played quite well, it wasn't anything you wouldn't hear in hotel lobby anywhere in the world. I was hoping for something a bit more interesting and inventive. Nevertheless, they have different acts on each night, so maybe we were there on the wrong night.

Drinks were a bit pricey, we had some snacks which weren't particularly good but again, it's a music venue, so you don't really go there for the food :-)

“Great Cabaret. Accoustics super. Food just fine. Atmosphere fantastic”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

Atmospheric joint in Bukit Bintang and last night the excellent Elvira held the stage. It wasn't so busy last night but when it is busy the fact that it is small makes the atmosphere that much better for those of you who like a traditional jazz or blues club. We had a multinational group last night and we all enjoyed every minute of the hours we spent there.

Seven of us ate there and the food was just fine for club food. The service was excellent (or perhaps I was the only one there really knocking it back - story of my life) My Bloody Mary's seemed to have the desired effect and my friends agreed that the cocktails were pretty good.
