A comfortable hotel in the Chinatown of Nagasaki

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 18, 2017
This is a comfortable hotel, with clean rooms and a well equipped bath and good amenities. The building faces a parking, so do not expect a special view. The hotel has a Sichuan style Chinese restaurant named Tohen at the second floor. Although they have only Japanese menu and the staff do not speak much English, they are very friendly and helpful. I had for dinner the most amazing mapo tofu I have ever tried. It arrived sizzling hot in a ceramic pot. The beef was very spicy and the tofu was amazingly creamy. The breakfast is also very good, with Japanese and Chinese dishes and also continental breakfast items. The hotel is in the dowtown of Nagasaki, right in the small but lively Chinatown (Shinchi-machi). The area has many shops, restaurants, museums and Buddhist temples to visit.
Date of stay: March 2017
Room Tip: The hotel faces a quieter street of the area, so there wont be a problem with noise.

Nice clean hotel with wonderful staff. The rooms was good but I think the bed was too hard. Breakfast was surprisingly good. I have had stays in Japan where breakfast was a tragedy. Dinner and lunch at the hotel was also a pleasant experience. Highly recommendable.

Needs renovation badly we ate in nearby China Town for dinner but hotel breakfast okay. Very little English spoken in hotel or on the television, try a better hotel even if it costs a bit more would not recommend this. And Nagasaki is a long way from Tokyo so after a long trip you want something okay.

Our double room was quite generous by Japanese standards although somewhat compact by those of Australia. We had enough space for easy movement and a comfortable bed.
The staff were very helpful and courteous during our stay and made every effort to aid us with our non-existant Japanese language skills.
The hotel is well located for many of the tourist highlights of Nagasaki and has good access to the local tram system.
The hotel is almost in Chinatown - an extensive undercover shopping arcade.

I have stayed here a few times and it's not like it used to be. Started off porly with no help from staff whatsoever with our luggage. We had to ask for a trolley despite the fact we were struggling.
Stayed on the 8th floor and when we exited the lift there was a strong smell of stale tobacco. The room size was OK but was run down and the curtains were stained yellow.
On of the good things about the hotel was it's very classy bar/resaurant where one could have a nice meal and sit in comfort reading a book. The bars opening times have been changed to 12:00 to 18:00 in the evening, ridiculous. We are staying for 10 nights and will visit friends and family. One redeeming feature is it's location.

Room tip: Only tried one room but as I said it is outdated and could do with a complete defumigation and cleanup. Would suggest the Richmond Hotel.

The hotel was actually better than I had expected. Just next to China town - nothing much to do there. Hotel staff was very helpful in helping with directions although especially the parking lot staff although he couldn't speak English. Breakfast was good.
