“A good budget hotel”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

I like this hotel series. This hotel meets our expectation.Though it is not providing extra large double bed option, it is still good enough for us to stay one night.
Please do not expect any luxury equipment in the room. At least, you have free wifi that is really nice. In short, this hotel worths to stay for a night.

Room Tip: Wifi is poor at the end of corridor

The nice thing about Toyoko Inns in Japan is that you know exactly what you are getting. They are all pretty much the same. I stayed in this one as part of a study tour with other American teachers in early July 2013. I had a single room. While small (what isn't in Japan?!) it was more than sufficient. It was very clean and the air conditioning worked extremely well. The only complaint is that the wifi signal (which was supposed to be available all over) was very weak. Sometimes you had to open the hallway door to get a signal. Other than that, I enjoyed my 3 nights here. I would stay here again if visiting Nagasaki. It was right by a tram stop and close to the train station. Very affordable too!

Room Tip: I've heard that staying near the elevator gets you a better wifi signal.

The Toyoko hotels seem to be more numerous every year. I guess success breeds success. They have replicated a formula with provides all the comforts and functions and eliminates the frills. The result is great value for money in a chain of hotels, often a few in each city. More geared to business men (where are the business women?} than tourists, you won't find a lot of the guidance that comes from the bigger, more expensive hotels. However, if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay at a good price, i recommended the Toyoko hotels.

The room was inexpensive but small.
The room charge included a self-service breakfast in the lobby.
The hotel is within 600m walking distance from Nagasaki train station, or one stop by tram.

I stayed 2 nights in a twin room, to which the following description refers.

Beds:
The beds are wide and have a rather hard innerspring mattress.
They only have a headpiece, there aren’t any bedrails on the three remaining sides.
Both beds have their headpieces against the same wall with a space of not more than half a meter between them. One bed is directly beside another wall with a window.
The bedcover consists of a sheet as the lower layer, with a blanket on top.

Furnishings:
There is a desk with cushioned stool against the wall opposite the window and a small rack with a bedside lamp on it between the beds.
Apart from a clothes rail mounted on the wall with 4 hangers there is nowhere to put your clothes. Therefore you will leave your things in your suitcases, for which there is not much space in the room either, unless you stow them under the beds.
The room has a carpeted floor.

Equipment:
There is a TV-set on the desk which also features pay-TV.
An internet connection is available via LAN-cable. You can find the cable on the desk.
There are only a few power outlets in the room and none in the bathroom.
The room has separate air conditioning.
A refrigerator and a room safe are under the desk.
There is a kettle, an induction cooker, cups and tea.
The hair dryer rests in a holder mounted on the wall above the desk beside a mirror. The cable is fixed to the holder, so the hair dryer can only be used in front of the desk.
Slippers (only for small feet) are provided.

Bathroom/WC:
The bathroom with WC is a plastic capsule, which is common in Japan.
There is no power outlet in the bathroom.
The WC has a bidet feature.
The Japanese bathtub is not long but deep, and more likely to be used as a shower.
Bath towels and hand towels are available.
There is also liquid soap, shampoo and conditioner.
In addition, toothbrushes are provided.

5 min walk to Train station. We were able to walk with kids even we had luggage. Rooms are small, but still they manage to fit in all amenities like water kettle, drinks , humidifier etc. they were out of non smoking rooms, and the room we got was stinking of cigarettes, must be heavily smoked in the previous night.

Apart from that, everything OK, good breakfast and free. Would stay again but only if they confirm non smoking room!

The Toyoko Inns are described well as "businessman's hotels". They are clean, quiet, with a nice breakfast. The rooms were small but efficient. They have the wonderful Japanese toilets with bidet features. They have the mirrors in the bathrooms that are heated and don't fog up after a shower. The breakfasts are Japanese style. The locations are a few minutes' walk from everything. We were easily able to walk with one wheeled suitcase from the train station in less than 5 minutes to this hotel. The cable car station is right in front of the hotel. The cable cars run north and south. We bought the all day pass and rode the cable cars everywhere. The staff directed us to an excellent restaurant 2 blocks away for dinner.
We'd go back. This is a great hotel for launching excursions.

This is more formal than the Kagoshima Toyoko Inn. The service is good and they will bend over backwards to accommodate you. It is across from a Tram station but it easier to walk rather than catch the tram with suitcases. It is only a few 100 meters away from Nagasaki Railway Station. The Tram station at Nagasaki Is in the middle of an island inbetween the main road and you have to access stairs with your suitcases, plus they just won't be appreciated you and your luggage on a packed tram. Most tourist sites are accessible by tram in Nagasaki and it caters well for English speaking tourists. I would stay there again most definitely.
