“Terribly small room & bed”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

We stayed one night in a semidouble room, cost 6000Yen from Jalan.net.

Like:
-Location right opposite nagasaki station (1min)

Dislike:
-Badly designed rooms, no space to walk after putting our luggage
-Bed too small to accommodate two people
-Shower temperature inconsistent
-Able to store luggage

I chose this hotel because of the convenient location and good price. It was extremely cheap for me (about 4700 yen a night). It's just across the street from Nagasaki Station as well as Nagasakiekimae, a stop on the streetcar system. Very convenient!

The room was quite small (which was expected) but not too bad. It was quite old, though, and smelled strongly of smoke (I requested a smoking room but this was just over the top with the smokey smell).

One problem I had was the shower. The heat level would change while I was showering so I'd constantly have to be adjusting to accommodate for this. I could never enjoy a nice shower because it was always suddenly too hot or too cold. Also, I could hear my neighbor's toilet quite loudly at night.

Very friendly staff though. It's convenient that they sell the streetcar all-day passes at the front desk too. Didn't try the restaurant but it looked okay.

We stayed for two nights and found the room comfortable but on the small side. It is easy access to the train station - just take the overpass and you will find it on the bottom of the stairs. I would probably look at other options if I were to return to Nagasaki - after all, it was $95 for the night.

We stayed here for 2 nights, not our first choice in Nagasaki but other hotels we looked at were full. It is very convenient to the station, in fact just opposite. It is also within walking distance to many of the sights and experiences of Nagasaki, particularly when combined with tram rides. The room was the smallest so far that we have encountered in Japan but it had everything.......just in a small space. We had 1 large suitcase which had to go on the bed to be opened then put on the floor against the fridge to get into bed! Lucky we didn't have 2 cases. The beds were extremely comfortable with good pillows and lovely light doonas. We found the room too hot and were unable to adjust the temperature so asked the staff to turn the heat off which was much better. The blockout curtains were excellent and the windows double glazed so despite being opposite the station with traffic and trams below we slept very well. Yes the bathroom is a capsule style, a bit like those in caravans but it was clean, the water pressure was good and the amenities just fine..even down to 2 different coloured toothbrushes and towel sets.Internet LAN connection was free and fast. There is a small flat screen TV but no English channels.Green tea bags supplied very nice. As we had stuff everywhere in the room we opted for no room service for the day and when we returned there was a basket at the door with fresh towels and a new supply of amenities...very thoughtful. There is a laundry which we didn't use as no time, vending machine and a microwave. We had a Japanese breakfast in the hotel restaurant which was quite cheap and very tasty, about 1000 yen each. Check in and out was no fuss, polite and friendly. The room was surprisingly expensive so look around for a good deal.So if you don't mind a tiny room you could stay here quite well for a few nights.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor and the side were reasonably quiet. As in many inner city hotels, ear plugs a...

'Ekimae' in Japanese means 'opposite station' - location a bonus and cheap eats near stations in Japan! I found hotel room & ensuite very small with no robe to hang clothes - just hangers on wall hooks and bed was hard. It's just the way it is in Japanese hotels. I also stayed with local Japanese friends on a futon (on the floor). Couldn't complain about the staff though - they were great and slippers & yukatas were supplied - a lovely surprise.

Room Tip: Take an Authentic Japanese room, approx 40% cheaper and sleep on a futon mattress (on floor) - more...
