“Great location”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

This is now my hotel of choice in Osaka. It is not in the Umeda area, which is where most of my meetings tend to be, but the local amenities more than make up for that. The location is great - I found it very difficult to find on my first visit, but once you know where it is, it is extremely easy to get to Namba station. The rooms are fine, all mod cons, the only reason I have given 4 stars rather than 5 is that the hotel is very strict on check-in time, which is 3pm. I should say that this is fairly common in Japan, but when you arrive after a long-haul flight at 10:30, this is not what you want to hear - and there appears to be no option to pay for an early check-in. I was eventually offered a room at 2pm, so there clearly is a little flexibility, but that took a lot of persuasion. Having said that, there are plenty of shops and restaurants in Namba Parks, and in other parts of the Namba station complex, so you can find something to do whilst waiting, and at least you can leave your luggage at the hotel.

Location is perfect as it is near subway, malls, shopping and restos.

Pros:
Room size is decent for the price
Near family mart convenience store with great assortment of food stuff
Location is wonderful (near dotomboti, shinsheibashi, namba parks, denden town, etc)
Price is very fair
Free coffee from 10am onwards
Free wifi in room with good connection
English speaking staff who are quite helpful

Cons
Small bathroom (but i think it's standard in japan)
Only 1 english channel (BBC), but not a big issue
Initially hard to find (recommend you read blogs on how to get there)

Will definitely recommend this hotel if you're staying in namba

We were really happy with our room - big enough for two of us with two big suitcases - and it was clean with good amenities. The hotel was happy to take our suitcases and hold them until check in time.

Really appreciated the coin operated laundry, which had a table for folding and washing baskets to borrow.

Super close to Namba Station as well as Namba Parks where we ate both nights.

Staff were friendly and the hotel was quiet despite the busy location and us being on the third floor.

One point of criticism - we emailed a couple of days ahead of our visit asking to stay an extra night. This email went unanswered. When we arrived a room was available so it wasn't a big deal but I would have preferred to sort that out ahead of time.

Didn't try the breakfast buffet because we never made it downstairs before 9.30am - we're on holiday time.

First of all, location is great. Close to the subway station, exit # 5, cross the street and you'll find it on your left just past a Family Mart and a small parking lot. When you're tired after a day of sightseeing, that short walk will be a blessing. I agree on comments that room is larger than usual for budget hotels in Japan but the bathroom is cramped. It does have a tub, which makes soaking in a hot bath such a welcome respite after a long tiring day of walking. Water pressure is amazing so you don't even have to wait too long to fill up your tub. There are numerous restaurants around and walking to Dotonbori was easy as you can walk through all the seemingly interconnected shopping streets on the way there. My only complaint was the mattress which is quite hard which might be what Japanese people prefer but it puts a strain on the back somehow and didn't allow me a peaceful long deep sleep despite being very tired. Wifi works well during the day but spotty after midnight, free coffee from the machine in the lobby, and a vending machine by the elevators. I wasn't able to try the breakfast but my relatives who did advised us to skip it and opt to look for alternatives outside. Overall, in terms of value for money this hotel will definitely give you that.

As hotels go, I don't expect very much as I know you get what you pay for. It appears that quite a few people are impressed by the size of the rooms - indeed they are quite spacious for a budget hotel. But size is no replacement for comfort and good service.

My stay at this hotel was certainly a very interesting one. Having stayed at various hotels in third world countries, I have never experienced what I did upon checking in at this hotel. Our first room allocated to us had interesting items awaiting our arrival.

There were bags upon bags of rubbish stacked in one corner of the room, and two bottles of unfinished drinks sitting on the desk. The rest of the room, however, was clean. It appeared as if the hotel staff were using the room as a bit of a storeroom/rubbish tip? Anyway, we went downstairs and made the staff aware of the situation, though their low level of english made it hard to convey the message through. We were taken upstairs so that we could show the hotel staff the poor state of the room, and made to wait another half hour or so while they tried to get another room for us.

After all this mess, we were provided with a room of the same standard, with no compensation for the time wasted and poor organisation we had to deal with. The staff were polite, but surely, this situation should have called for more.

Ignoring this (probably one off incident), the rooms were really bare and the bed sorely uncomfortable. What others believed to be yukatas were more like ordinary asian overalls. It is a budget room, but in saying this, we paid a similar price at Best Western Fino Osaka and experienced a much more comfortable room. It is relatively well located - very well situated in terms of Namba train station, but in an area that doesn't look as friendly and upbeat.

If you find that there are no other hotels and you are on a budget, certainly stay here - you will receive what you pay for, and most things that you need. But if there is the option of another place - most definitely, you should choose that one over Il Cuore Namba.

My friend and I stayed 3 nights. The room was small but enough for 2 girls. Also it's very close to Namba station, but it wasn't noisy at all since it's not located in the main street. We walked down to a small alley to find a hotel like 5-10 minutes.

There are lots of restaurants, drug stores and 24hr convenient store near hotel.

Location was great especially after getting off of the airport train...we were literally 5 minutes away...water pressure is sensational...no need for shiatsu....big deep tub for soaking...very close to public transport....walking distance to Sinsaibashi and Dotonbori shopping districts...decent restaurants in the neighbourhood as well. Price was definitely right as we booked suitably in advance...all amenities such as soap, towels, razors, shampoo etc are provided without frugality...a good place to stay for us over 4 nights...would do it again!

Room Tip: try to get a non-smoking room as the smoking floors are putrid..
