“BEST LOCATION in Osaka for eating and shopping!”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

I made reservations online for a triple-sharing room via their website and no down payment was needed. I booked months in advance and got a special discounted rate. Opted for the no breakfast included since it was part of our itinerary to try out different places to eat and the entire stretch of Dotombori is just perfect for that.

Since Namba Station is a huge station, it took a while before we got to EXIT 25. If you have heavy luggage with you, I suggest you use the elevator exit at the Pachinko place you see right before reaching the staircase of Exit 25 (at first glance it doesn't really seem like the elevator will take you up to the outside streets). A 5-minute walk will get you to the Dotombori Hotel after passing by numerous ramen & gyoza houses, sushi bars, yakiniku places and dozens of vending machines. Just print a map provided on the official hotel website and you should be fine.

The rooms are of typical Japanese hotel sizes. Do not expect anything big. Since we booked for the triple sharing, which is the twin room plus extra bed, we didn't have much space to walk around and we had to take turns opening our luggage but it wasn't that bad. We managed to maximize the space by tucking in the unnecessary stuff like stools and garbage bins underneath the dresser and placing the trolleys inside the cabinets. But if you're booking the twin room, then space should be just enough and you would be able to open up your luggage and be able to walk around. As expected, the bathroom was also of standard Japanese hotel size but nevertheless, sparkly clean and complete with shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, toothbrushes and bathrobes. The room was also presented in a very neat and clean way. Too bad internet was not available via wifi and only by 1 LAN cable. The lobby however had a number of PCs available for use, with internet and a printer too! That was really convenient because I'd usually google the addresses of places to go and just print out the maps, and also for online check in and printing of boarding pass. The lobby also had very useful English guides and maps on where to go for shopping, eating, museums and the like. One more thing I loved about this hotel is the free drinks made available in the lobby. I'd always treat myself with a cup of hot tea and coffee in the morning.

Universal Studios Japan is accessible via short train ride. What is great about the location of the hotel is that it is right on the stretch of Dotombori itself. You can never run out of options for dining and snacking! The night life is just a few corners away! And another few more blocks away is Shinsaibashi where shopping is just crazy. You can either take the subway (1 station away) but we just walked (and shopped) our way to Shinsaibashi and took another walking route back and didn't even notice we were back in Dotombori already.

The hotel staff was kind enough to keep our luggage after checkout hours since our flight wasn't until night yet. To go back to Kansai Airport, we took the Namba Nankai Railway Airport Express which has a stop at Namba Station but the platform for that was located at the farther end of the huge station so give yourself a good 20-30 minutes to get to the platform if you start from the hotel, with heavy pull-trolley luggage with you as you have to find escalators and elevators to assist you instead of the nearest stairs.

I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Osaka! I hope they keep up the great service!

The hotel is clean and by far the most spacious hotel we've stay. The staff are very friendly and happen to bump in to an activity, a Osaka hamburger party hosted by the hotel, for FREE. The hotel is also conveniently situated near by area for food and shopping. Last, but not least, the staff are able to speak Chinese, English and Korean, which is more easy to communicate with them and ask their recommendations on places of interest. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Tripadvisor reviews were spot on for this hotel. For the price paid, you are just steps away from where all the action in Osaka is! Very convenient location to Namba subway station and abt 10-15 mins walk from Namba Nankai Railway. They are both very easy to find. There are MANY restaurants in the area and shops aplenty.

The big plus point about this hotel is all the little extras that previous reviewers have mentioned. Loved the free coffee/tea vending machine in the lobby, free 5 min phone calls home per day, PCs with printer, free rental of laptop for your room, free wifi, extra toiletries kit for women. They also give you this folder of information about the hotel and its surrounds (places to eat, shop, things to do etc). If you have babies/little ones they also provide free rental of sterilizer, buggy, bathtub, playpen, cot, etc!!! Amazing!

The room was small but good enough for us. We could actually fit in 2 regular size luggages without any problems. Toilet is like a compact cubicle you step into! Had a shower over a bath tub. If you are 6 ft tall or more, you may have to hunch over when you shower as the ceiling is low. My only complaint was that the toilet had a strange smell - like that of stagnant water. The green tea deodorizing spray which was in the room didn't seem to help. We were too tired to move so we put up with the smell each time we needed to use the toilet.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would we stay here again? Absolutely!

Hotek is great, a lot of small things for the guest, while I am travel in vacation during Feb. It's a cold weather, Warm A/C as usual, the best thing that I found a machine (free) for hot or cold Coffee, tea, japnese tea, water... it's fantasitc for this kind of wheather. Also, there's 4 phones for free long distant or local. 3 computer with printer. Free rental bicycle. it'amazing.

The room as usual small as most hotel in Tokyo or Osaka it's the same. Free boardband, wifi & free rental computer"Dell" it's good to minimize the weight of your luggage for the stuff of. shopping. hotel not bad staff frinedly, around hotel area a lot of Japnese Food and a convenient shop opposit hotel. Only be careful hotel check out time is 11:00 am not 12:00 pm, I need to pay extra for that hour. Anyhow, it's good hotel value for money

I spent a few nights at the Dotonbori Hotel, it was exactly what I wanted and expected (from all the tripadvisor reviews). It was in a great and lively location, roughly a 10? minute walk to the closest train station. The room was clean and small but managed to fit all the essentials and the bathroom was decked out in toiletries. The walls are thin, but I happened to stay next to a couple with a baby. The receptionists were lovely and professional. It's really as good as it gets for the price!

This was our first hotel on our trip around Japan. We arrived at 11am after a sleepless overnight flight and were expecting to have to leave our luggage and come back later to check in, but we were able to go into our room straight away! This was a welcome surprise as we could have a much needed rest before a bit of sightseeing.

The room was quite small, but we expected this from reading previous reviews, spotless, and at £45 a night (a promotional rate direct from their website) it was a bargain. Suitcases fitted under the bed, so once they were out the way it was fine. The room had a full sized double bed not a semi-double and it was very comfy. It was also nice and quiet, despite being in the middle of a busy area of Osaka.

Lots of toiletries and things were provided, ladies got a bag with face cleansers and lotions etc. Bathroom was like a little pod, but perfectly clean and had all you needed, including a small bath.

It's conveniently located by Namba station which serves as a hub for a number of rail lines. The station is huge mind, and the JR part was the opposite end to the exit closest to the hotel, but it was a nice walk through an underground shopping arcade - great for picking up a Bento on the way back to the hotel. There are frequent maps on the wall and the exits are numbered, so you can find your way if you get a bit disoriented (which we did a couple of times!) You only have to walk a minute down the street from the hotel and your in the really lively Dotonbori street, with loads of restuarants and bright lights - the famous giant crab and puffer fish signs are here. There's also a Lawson's convenience store directly opposite the hotel.

A folder full of useful info about local restaurants and attractions was also provided in the room. It also had details of what special offer tickets you could get from reception. The reception staff were great, they spoke good English - checking in/out was fine, we also bought some tickets for the subway/aquarium and floating garden from them, and when we checked out they sorted out sending our luggage onto our next main hotel we were going to be at in a couple of days time.

Great value for money and helpful staff!
