“Good and convenient!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

I stayed with a friend in this hotel whilst visiting Osaka and the surrounding area including a daytrip to Hiroshima. Leaving Tennoji station by its eastern exit, one will see a door with a red awning above it across the road and slightly to the left. This is the hotel entrance,

The hotel was immaculate as per Japanese standards. The service at reception was impeccable even if the receptionist could not speak much English. The lift to the rooms has to be one of the smoothest I've ever travelled in, and I've travelled in a few within tall buildings in my time,

My room was on the 14th floor and had a magnificent view over a good part of Osaka as well as nearby Tennoji railway station! One of my minor criticisms comes here, and that the room wasn't double-glazed. This meant that I could hear traffic and trains albeit quite faint. I suspect lower rooms would suffer from more noise however. Not a big deal, just a minor point.

The toilet had a heated seat! I thought "only in a Japanese hotel!" however the toilet lid was a bit flimsy and even my weak hands managed to break it one morning! No sweat as it was repaired by the time I returned in the evening. The shower and bath were perfectly adequate,

I can't comment on food as I had booked room-only and went out every day for breakfast and dinner. Japanese food is among the best in the world; many Westerners would probably disagree with me there though!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stayed in southern Japan and the Hotel Miyako Tennoji made it just that bit more enjoyable. A minor point; next time there I'll take the time to check out the fitness facilities as sadly I did not do so this time,

By the way, as other reviews have stated, there are 2 different trains running from Tennoji to Kansai Airport. The slower but cheaper of the two takes an hour but is 600-700 yen cheaper. The Haruka takes just 32-35 minutes. If the machines at the station confuse you, just ask the station staff who are willing to help,

Highly recommended!

This hotel was really nice, the rooms were really big (for Japan) and the staff were really friendly. It was very convenient to be so close to Tennoji Station as you can basically get the subway anywhere. Osaka was such a nice place to visit. Thank you very much!!!!

This a a great hotel located in the centre of Osaka, right opposite Tennoji Station.
It is really easy to get around to all of the major places in Osaka by walking or catching a train.
There are many stores located close by, so if you fancied having a local shop, you can do so quite easily.
The hotel is fairly grand and the service is impeccable.
Our check in was quick and efficient. The staff could commutate in English very well and provided us with a map of the local area, so we could get around with little confusion.
The room itself was large & spacious, with a great view of the city.
The bed was large, we had a large dresser, bathroom and an ample amount of English speaking channels.
It was one of the best hotels that I have stayed in, the rooms were so clean and our rooms tidied each day.
I would stay there again when I am in Osaka.

The hotel is right opposite the JR Tennoji station so it is really easy for us to go anywhere. The rooms are decent. We had to stay in the smoking section the first stay since they were running out of non-smoking rooms at the time. The second time we got a non-smoking room. The area is busy with lots of shopping opportunities, small cafes. There is a supermarket in the nearby Mio (underground). So eating options are lots, with varied prices. It is a nice choice for a traveler and I will stay in it again if we happen to be in Osaka again.

Great location with direct connection in the basement to Tennoji Subway station - except it's not easy to find the direct entrance to the hotel from the station the first time because the station is big with many entrances/exits and the signage to the hotel is very small. No sweat as it's also just a few steps away from the main entrance of the subway station - we asked a lovely girl in the station who seemed to be giving directions to different people, and she led us straight to the hotel. The hotel is also right opposite the Tennoji JR station, but can't remember the exact exit.

Hotel is small but room is of a decent size and has all the amenities. For its price, it's a great deal. Free WIFI in the lobby only. Only 2 english channels on TV but we noticed that's common in most hotels outside Tokyo. We were out in central Osaka most of the time so didn't see much of the surrounding areas - main shopping and eating places of Osaka are only 3-4 subway stations away so very convenient.

Train to Kansai airport is right across the hotel in the Tennoji JR station, and it takes 30-50 mins to reach airport, depending on which train you take. Now, buying the train tickets to airport is a little tricky - for limited express Haruka train (30mins to Kansai), you must choose the most expensive option ( around Y1700, i think), not the 'fare only' option which won't even get you through the station turnstile gate. Another option 9Rapid Train) costs around Y1100 I believe but that takes 50mins to airport. If it's too confusing, there's always the office next to the automated ticket machines where staff will sell the right tickets.
Bear in mind though that this JR office is not open early in the morning eg. 7am, which is the time I had to go to the airport the last time so we just bought the Y1100 option from the machine. My, train was completed packed all the way to the airport - no fun when we had 2 big luggage bags & carry ons with us, but we made it safe & sound.

Overall, Tennoji Miyako hotel is a good value hotel for anyone going to Osaka for leisure or business. Osaka, is a brilliant city worth visiting anytime - great shopping, great food, lovely people.

After clearing immigration and customs, we followed the directory signs in the airport for trains and got to the JR station in under 5 minutes. The journey took about 45 minutes or so, making a number of stops along the way.
The hotel is opposite the JR Tennoji station when you come out from the East exit. In addition it has a direct access to the subway lines of Yotsubashi and Midosuji and two others I think, the names of which I do not remember. You just take the spiral stairways down from the reception counter and you will be there for the subway in no time.
Tennoji Miyako is an old hotel that has been kept well. They changed the bed types some years ago. You might still see older pictures of the hotel rooms in some hotel booking websites. I thought our room was quite spacious although someone did comment in his review that the rooms were small, maybe because ours was a twin room. There is a wardrobe with folding door, a long writing desk with TV, hot water jug with Japanese tea bags and two free bottles of water everyday, The bathroom has a bathtub and is stocked with comb, toothbrush, shower cap, washing sponge (which I only see in Japanese hotels so far) etc. It also has, in addition, a humidifier and a pants-press.
Free wifi is only in the lobby area. The reception staff that attended to us was helpful and gave us help for the directions that we needed to know. A 24 hour convenience store is just next to the hotel. Malls and department stores are just nearby.
Overally, we are satisfied with the hotel

REASON for selecting the Tennoji Miyako Hotel: We had to catch a 9am international flight out of the Kansai airport, and this was the last stop on the JR Haruka line to reach the airport (in less than 45 minutes). Everything went smoothly.

ROOM RATE: relatively inexpensive for Japan; 10,000 yen. Free WiFi in the lobby.

ROOM QUALITY: relatively roomy for Japan. Good linens and bathroom.

LOCATION: excellent; across the street from the JR train station and subway.

SIGHTSEEING: We had only a late afternoon in Osaka, but from this location we crossed the front street and took the loop subway counterclockwise to visit the Osaka Peace Center (a must see for its frank assessment of Japan's cruel attempts to colonize Asian countries) and Osaka castle, and again on the loop subway clockwise to have dinner in Dotombori (delicious takoyaki and okonomiyaki). Hotel staff spoke English and provided a map and subway stop suggestions.
