“Basic room in a generally quiet neighbourhood”
Reviewed January 17, 2010

My friend and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in Oct while on a trip to Osaka. The hotel is located within 5 mins' walk from the Shin-Osaka station, which was actually a pretty quiet area. The main shopping districts are located at Osaka/Umeda station area, or Shinsaibashi/Namba, so we had to commute daily to most places.

The room was generally spacious for a Japanese hotel room, as we had more than enough space for 2 of our luggages, and it was clean and well-maintained. Basic amenities were also provided, and a daily face mask and relaxant foot masks were also given, which I thought was a really nice touch! It also helps that the hotel staff speaks comprehensive English. Checkin is only after 2 or 3pm which is quite common for hotels, but we were pretty tired after arriving at 11am from an overnight flight from home, so we had to wander around for a few hours before we finally got settled into the room.

Although there is nothing much around the hotel as shopping district is a few stations away, there are still quite a number of F&B outlets near the hotel, away from the Shin-Osaka station area but in the opposite direction.

I've stayed at countless business hotels in Japan. I would rate this one well above average, mainly because of the location. The Toyoko Inn down the road is better but it's a much longer walk to Shin-Osaka Station. I just want a clean place to sleep and bathe and I'm happy. I chose this hotel because of the location. On the weekend I'm making day trips to Hiroshima, Hakata, Nagoya, Himeji and Kyoto. It works perfectly if you have a railpass and want to base yourself in Osaka.

Pluses: Window opens fully to let cool air in. Window soundproofs the room so no jet or train traffic can be heard when it's sealed shut. Complementary Internet works great. Convenience store and takoyaki stand is one minute walk away under the tracks. Midosuji subway station is 1/2 minute away so you have easy access to Umeda and Namba. Bed is comfortable and wide for a business hotel. The room is large for a business hotel. Refrigerator included. English skills of the staff is adequate to get by. The single rate is very reasonable.

Drawbacks: No safe in the room. They use an envelope system at the counter sealed with your sig and their stamp which is fine in Japan. No CNN on TV.

New Osaka Hotel is a gem of a spot if you are a) on a budget, b) not insanely picky about luxury entitlement when it comes to hotels and c) want to see the REAL Osaka and not the fake bubble of tourist town.

Pros:
- Near Shin Osaka Station [five minute walk; 45 minute ride to Kansai Airport]
- Extremely inexpensive: 95 USD for a double room. This includes an excellent American/tradition Japanese breakfast buffet
- Newly renovated and extremely clean
- Near dozens of convenience stores, bars, coin laundry, and cafes
- Quiet. Really quiet

Cons:
- Staff is not well versed in English, but are helpful just the same
- Rooms are not huge, but if you don't suffer from 'Fat American' syndrome, then you'll fit just fine
- They are mainly a Wedding Hotel, so don't expect a gym and etc. But hey, your gym is the train stations so you won't need it.

This place rocks. I really enjoyed it.

This hotel is not as bad as the previous entry stated. It's not the newest hotel out there but it does the job. I booked a single room and was pleasantly surprised at the size, compared to Japan's standards. There is room to walk around and leave your luggage. I paid $65 for it, including breakfast, which was mediocre. I suggest to buy breakfast elsewhere. There are mini marts around and in the JR Station. There are two entrances to this hotel and the staff was extremely courteous to me. This hotel is close to the subway station (exit 7) and to the JR Rail. In front of the JR station, there is an airport shuttle for 490Yen to Itami Airport, which was pretty good as well. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The room is tiny that I can expected in Japan. But the bathroom smells. The hotel need to be renovated. The air conditioning is not working properly. When you first get in the room, you need
to find the air conditioning switch. As the air conditoning was totally shut down when the room is vacant.

Stayed for 5 nights during June 2007.

Twin room is OK, clean, wired Internet, TV. Breakfast is great and they serve it in the Lobby Italian place. Service is very good, reception stuff are speaking fluent English. Location: 20 meters from Shin-Osaka subway station and 100 meters frm Shin-Osaka train station. Dozen of vending machines are located in 50 meters radius from hotel doors. Many restaurants and businesses nearby.
Paid about 100 USD for twin room/night. Breakfast extra.
