Before traveling, I checked online for places to eat and go to in Osaka. Dotonburi was what everyone was raving about and now I understand why! It literally is the Takoyaki district (shout out to all the takoyaki fans out there!) Cheap food but GREAT food! Well there are some expensive restaurants which people seem to line up for even in the COLD COLD COLD weather. (It was 40F when I went there.) It's the Vegas of Japan! (Minus the gambling.) The lights are beautiful at night.

There are so many shops! I literally thought the road of shops would never end. And take note that there are a lot of roads full of shops! I, a shopaholic, couldn't get to all the roads! It was just too much!

I do recommend the takoyaki from the street stalls. And there is this one place with a sushi belt! For Y130 a plate (usually 2 pieces/plate) it was a deal! Plus, the sushi was so fresh and so good you would think it had to be more expensive! From the same sushi belt restaurant, you can order a sushi bento box to take home! Same fresh fish and great taste in a cute wood-like box! It ranges anywhere from Y600-Y1000+. I had the Y800 bento box one night and it was so good! Usually comes with 8-10pieces of sushi.

PS, If you're in the mood there's a 24hr karaoke bar! ;)

I did not really like Dottonbori. The stretch of the road was really really long and all you see will be heads..and heads..and more heads!!! And the stretch is never ending!!! Lots of things for sale..mostly boutiques...

Things is..travelling with a stroller and going into the crowd...you have to walk and continue walking the same way as the others. i will not in that crowd with a kid ever again...

But everything was indeed really bright with lots of lights...people here looked more modern compared to Tokyo. I mean in their sense of clothes..hair??

All I can say is WOW. I love the lights and the energy that occurs at night time. All of the street food stands pop up and provide consumers witih hot tasty treets. THere are wonderful ramen and takoyaki joints all over the place. My wife and I really enjoyed all of the arcades throughout the area. Apparently the Japanese enjoy crane games as the national arcade game. Fun times.

Dotonbori-dori is a fun experience at night. I bet in warmer weather more of the wild outfits are on display. I have never seen such a high concentration of overly groomed people in my life...and then I went to a cosmetics store on Dotonbori. And it outdid itself.

You can spend hours wandering around the neon-lit streets. There's all sorts of museums and shops. Upscale Western stores. Department store. A store that only sells socks. etc. etc. It's easy to find yourself wandering into the kitchen supply district, too.

Where else would you find two H&Ms across the street from each other?
