“Worth it for the monthly markets”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

This place is terrible. Go to Nara or Kyoto if you want to see temples. The grounds are a dustbowl, the buildings nothing special. BUT once a month they hold markets here with items from bygone eras. You can pick up bargains - an kimono, an obi, old dishes, a carpenters plane. Make an effort to visit if you are in town on the right days. Otherwise forget it.

“Peaceful place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

This temple is a wonderful place to visit and gather your thoughts. The pagoda is lovely and the murals of the life of Buddha inside the first hall are unique.

Going on a Thursday, we had the place almost to ourselves and it was easy to while away an hour or so wandering through the well maintained and pretty Japanese style halls.

Worth a visit.

“Lovely temple, so-so gardens!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

This temple is definitely worth the visit. Unlike most other temples in Japan there is an entrance fee to enter the actual temple complex (and the adjoining gardens) - the Osaka Pass covers both fees. Once inside the temple complex you can climb up the pagoda however, there isn't much of a view from the top! There are also some lovely paintings in the main shrine building.
The adjoining gardens were a little disappointing (but in all fairness it was winter).
The temple is a bit of a walk from the metro stop but it is easy enough to find.

“Beautiful Temple, Probably Better in Not-Winter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

The temple is quite lovely to wander around in. However, in winter it's a little bleak. It's a short walk from the same-titled subway stop, and it's well signed. If you keep going south you can eventually get to the tower in the Shinsekai District (for lunch?).

The temple garden is also quite lovely, but would also probably be much better in warmer seasons. In the winter, at least, it is tranquil and devoid of most tourists.

“Quiet and less crowded”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

I was there during late autumn. The temple was quiet and less crowded. It's old temple and well maintain. There is a big gate. Best to stroll around and look for its history.
